GA women's coach said her Diamond Battles was best player on the court!! REally???

I didn't realize there were so many Georgia WBB fans on this board. Trying to stick up for her player, trying to sell her program, Iowa fans with outrage and stupid stuff and touchy fans. That's pretty funny stuff, sticking up for a visitor coach who made an a$$ out of herself and having a team acting like thugs AFTER they knew they were beat. She will fit right in in the SEC.

I thought Clark was a little off yesterday so Diamond may have had the better game but Iowa was the better team and that's why Iowa is advancing and Georgia is going home. I wouldn't read to much into what Abe said, nothing wrong with arrogance in a head coach that talks up her team and her players. She had her team ready to play in a very tough environment.

One thing that gets tiring when following our womens team is all the complaining about officiating from fans. It's bad across the board and as long as they don't pay worth a crap it will never get better. The officials they get for womens basketball is marginally better than high school. I didn't like the dirty play at the end of the game either but at least they called it, I've seen officials look the other way in those situations because they don't want the game decided by technical free throws. Clark gets mugged in every game, sometimes the officials call it and sometimes they don't. She's the best player on the court, she should be used to it by now.

Did Diamond score or assist on every point in the 2nd half for her team, I doubt it. A lot of pressure on Clark

They like Boston and her 13.7 scoring and 9.7 rebounds per game. Pathetic honorable mention stats.
Or her 11 points and 11 rebounding game she just had. Sad. I do like the twins though I'm not sure I've seen them play though. Caitlin is obviously the npoy. MVP and every other award possible.

One more post on this topic and then it is looking forward to Colorado for me. An additional lens into the culture of Georgia women's basketball. Given this artifact, it is probably likely the coaching staff was well aware of what might happen and prepared the team. Ever seen a game with five ejections? I have not. Georgia women’s basketball overcomes ejections, defeats Virginia Commonwealth 68-54 | Georgia Sports | redandblack.com
Not sure I've ever seen 33% of scholarship athletes from one team kicked out of a competition. And it wasn't like there was a bench clearing fight involved.

So to you 17 points+12assists (taking away her final ft’s) is a lesser game than 21points+1assist? In absolutely no world was Caitlin not the best player on the floor. Caitlin seemed to play a smart game getting her teammates involved and being very selective about when to take her own shots.
IMO, the way Ga was extending their d clear out to half court, instead of passing the ball into the high post which seemed to be what Ga wanted them to do, Clark should’ve been attacking that first defender off the bounce. Once she got past that defender their d pretty much had to be out of position trying to cut her off. We saw it on her drive at the end. She could have put a ton of pressure on their D by being more aggressive driving, but clearly Bluder wanted them working the high post. That did work a lot to the tune of a bunch of open 3’s, but also lead to a ridiculous amount of turnovers. Again JMO
I don't equate points rebounds, ect as my only reason for who was the better player on the court, it comes down to defense, efficiency and intangibles. From my non eagle eye, battle is a much better defender than Clark. She isn't the primary ball handler so she won't have the assists. Battles was 7-15 (3-7 on 3's) 46%, Clark was 6-17 (4-10 from 3) 35%. Clark just seemed a bit off to me the other day. Doesn't mean she performed very well yesterday I just thought Battle was better and can support that, which is where their coach was likely coming from. It was 1 day and 1 game, the faux outrage is nuts. I am all for loving and supporting my team, doesn't mean I can't see why another coach would give adulation to their player on the day.

Dude…she was responsible for all but 2 points the hawks scored in the 2nd half, that is complete domination. Say what you want, and you can have your opinion, but again, in no world was battle better than clark on sunday. You and the Ga coach are probably the only people that have that opinion lol And it’s not faux outrage, it’s common sense!

Their classless coach refused to acknowledge Caitlins free throws from the flagrant fouls so said battle was the leading scorer. Instead of taking responsibility for the cheap shots and trash talking she runs a program i wouldn't want to be associated with. I think Caitlin changes the game when in. The defense has to move further out and also causes changes in the iowa players. The actual impact of the players battle and Caitlin is ridiculous. Battle played a good game but Caitlins impact is just being on the floor. She changes defenses which allows her to get so many assists. The offense is much better when she's in. And yes, she had a little bit of an off game. Normally she would score close to 30 and possibly get a double double or even a triple double. I don't see Battle as anything close to impact on the game itself. Battle had a very good game while a slightly off Caitlin still came up with more points and assists. Best player in the game was Caitlin but Marshall also had a great game. The only reason Georgia kept it close was Iowa's turnovers. Fluke game and the best Georgia could do is keep it close.

Diamond Battles 22-23 stats
34/34 games avg 34 minutes, 39% FGs and 27% threes, 76% FTs and 3.4 avg RBs and 96 assists and 14.7 scoring.
Caitlin Clark
34/34 games avg 34 minutes, 47% FGs and 38% threes, 83% FTs and 7.3 avg RBs and 291 assists and 26.8 scoring.

Had nothing to do with who was the best player on Sunday, just interesting to me. I'll stick with Caitlin.

I think that’s exactly the point, Battle greatly outperformed her average stats in scoring while Clark underperformed and they were essentially in the same ballpark for one game.

Wow, Caitlin has some ridiculous stats. The assists and rebounds are incredible. She's obviously a great scorer but all the aspects of her game is crazy good. Someone else @Slim45 mentioned she was involved with all but 2 points in the 2nd half. Just amazing. And then gets a cheap shot with 1.6 seconds left. Right after gabbys smash to the face. The Georgia coach has to be ultimately responsible. I can't accept anything she has to say other than apologize for her teams behavior.

Straight from Yahoo:
“Clark, a national player of the year favorite, dropped 22 points and had 12 assists in the win. She was responsible for all but two of Iowa’s second-half points, too.” (I believe 31 of 33)

“Battles led Georgia with 21 points and six rebounds. She was held scoreless in the third quarter after her huge first half, and made only two more shots the rest of the game.”

Best player on the floor, classic…🤣🤣🤣

Last thing I'll say about this is with the gane on the line in the final 2 minutes Iowa up 2, Battle turns the ball over, steal by Clark who runs the cl0ock down and then drives and makes the bucket up by 4. Back and forth turnovers by both teams Battle misses a layup, props to Gabby for getting back to contest the shot. So then of course Georgia goes dirty and game over. So game on the line Battle chokes and Caitlin scores 6 points in the final 2 minutes. Battle with huge turnover and missed layup while Caitlin makes the driving basket after stealing Battles pass and drains 4 freethrows in a row. 8 point victory and the best player shines. Debate over. Eff Georgia!

Great defense, aided and abetted by some bad officiating as well.
Just have to wonder if there’s dialogue from IOWA to those in charge about the flagrant fouls Georgia committed during the game. Anyone of those could have ended up taking players out of the next game. In particular the one smiling after the shot she delivered at the end of the game.

Unfortunately until there are repercussions that will make the coaches and players accountable beyond the game in question, this type of BS is going to continue.

This thread wouldn't have gone past half a dozen posts if a visiting coach who just lost a tough game hadn't started her press conference off with bs, but rather show some class as most every other coach would.
She was definitely the antithesis of KF there.

I’ll trade four more victories in exchange for the competitions head coach saying their star player was the best player on the court. All day, every day.

I'm politely suggesting one more time that many of you need to shut up and have some perspective. Caitlin is amazing, and we know that, and the press knows that, and Coach Abe acknowledged that. Are y'all so insecure that you have to be outraged that she wants to celebrate her own players too?

You sound just as bitter and arrogant as the UConn fans who were angry at Lisa Bluder's press conference after we lost to UConn in the Sweet 16 in 2021. All Bluder was saying was that we played a pretty good game, and if we clean some things up, we could be right there with them in the coming seasons. Simply being optimistic about our future and motivating our players to keep working hard. But UConn fans were soooo salty that Bluder didn't spend the whole press conference praising King Geno and Princess Bueckers. UConn fans are the worst! Don't be like them!

Coach Abe mentioned in the interview that she had been recruiting Diamond Battles since she was a junior in high school. Then Battles goes on to have a great 4 year career with Abe at UCF and a fantastic 5th season with her at Georgia. So they've grown together for 7 years. Have some empathy what they must be feeling having that come to an end. They deserve recognition for making it a competitive game.

Lastly, those of you trying to equate Battles and Clark's defensive efforts by pointing out they both had 3 steals just sound ridiculous. Anyone with a brain who watched that game could see that Georgia/Battles' defense was ten times more disruptive.

I kinda understand both sides. It's like the different ways of interpreting Clark's attitude. You love Clark if she is yours and hate her on the other team. There was Ohio State Samantha Prahalis (2011) who I loved to hate. She always seemed pouty and theatrical. I just remind myself of the coach who said that his job depended on a bunch of guys in shorts. It's only kids playing a game. It's best to relax and enjoy what you can.

Just want to start off by saying I respect where you’re coming from and here are my thoughts after watching that press conference:

I think it’s more about how she said things that rubbed people the wrong way. I don’t think it’s bad that she thinks her player was the best one on the court or that her team is just as good etc. Without being asked she led off the press conference stating as much and didn’t give much credit to Iowa though. She did acknowledge Clark was a good player. However, when asked about how their defense worked on Gabbie Marshall after Gabbie knocked down 5/8 3s she said it was good. No credit was given to “pretty eyes.” 😉

I have no issue with coaches talking up their program or how much their players mean to them at the end of their careers but she didn’t have to be such a *itch about it. It’s like she was yelling at everyone in the room and looking down on them for not watching Georgia basketball play all year. Why would they unless they’re from Georgia or in the same conference etc? It came off passive aggressive too and I believe was meant to be a slight against Clark when she said Clark’s free throws at the end don’t count towards her point total for the game either. I thought Lisa had a very classy response as always when a reporter asked her who the best player on the court was.

And no, it’s not a requirement to give the other team tons of compliments following a tough loss. I feel for them as I’m sure the loss does sting. At the end of the day, she’s right. Georgia is a very good team and we were fortunate to get passed them. And if you watch Lisa and the Iowa players afterwards, they were very complimentary of Georgia and acknowledged that.

Do you think she gives a crap? Coach Abe made it very clear what was important to her during that press conference, she wants her program on a pedestal, look-at-us was her attitude. She's not here to make friends in her home state or at her alma mater, she's building a basketball program in the state of Georgia. I got the impression she was tired of being asked about Iowa.

She accomplished the “no friends” goal. She came across as a bitter old bitch. Sounds like she has some family on here defending her and her thug duo that assaulted the Iowa women in the last six seconds. She is very lucky the Iowa coaches and players are a classy bunch. Had those players pulled that crap against and Alabama or Tennessee, there would have been a brawl on the floor.

You telling other Hawk fans to shut up and have some perspective isn't really helping you. The "you sound better and arrogant as the UConn fans..... same thing. I posted Battles' stats above and I wouldn't consider them a fantastic 5th year. Having said that, I respect your contributions here to WBB.

This is the part most people have a problem with. At no point did old ugly eyes acknowledge or compliment the Iowa team or players sincerely.
