Gable Steveson: Stirring The Pot?

I like Warner to win 2-3 because of the historical lack of competition at 197. Meaning there is only usually 2-3 top guys. He is already kind of dominate and he not muscular yet. He is going to be a big 197 once he seriously hits the weight room...with a great gas tank as well. 4 AAs

Lee...Anywhere from 2-4. 4 AAs

Teasdale: He is going to have to make the biggest adjustments. Has a great low single but is going to have to finish tougher and up his inside ties/handfighting. If he totally buys in, will be hard to stop. Great thing is having Lee,Gilman, Clark etc as partners...assuming the light guys stay with the HWC. 1-2 titles. 4AAs

Like someone said, just looking for 100% and a good learning curve when they get here.
This is what I would put as mine as well. But if I'm being honest with myself, I would say 4 for Lee. Just what I personally think he will achieve, but honestly, I've thought this long before he was an Iowa commit. Which is part of the reason why Lee was recruiting priority #1 IMO. Obviously I won't be disappointed in him if he fails to achieve that goal, but like wasdt said, disappointed for him, because I know that is his goal as well.

What are the Iowa fan expectations for these three guys? If I were to say that these three would amass a combined four NCAA titles, would you guys be disappointed or happy? If not four, what number do you expect when all is said and done?
----

4 ncaa titles and 11 AA's sound like realistic estimates.

Warner - potential 4x AA, 2x champion. Lots of upside.
Lee - 4x AA, 2x champion
I would put him in same category as Warner. Though his HS resume
is even more spectacular, he is still undersized, and has had shoulder
surgery. If he fills out to a legit 125# and is fully healed, he could go
higher.
Teasdale - 3x AA, 1x champ is possible. Decatur of Ohio (a year younger)
is currently ranked higher.

Pathetic prediction! Strange thing is, I know you're not a PSU troll. Do you fail to recognize what a special group of recruits we have?

Lee has an excellent chance of not only winning 4 titles, but also going undefeated. If you don't realize that, you haven't watched any Lee matches.

Warner is easily a 4x AA with 2-3 titles (probably 3).

Teasdale will be training for years with Lee and will likely win at least 2 titles, with 4x AA.

Add to these titles the ones that Marinelli, Kemerer, Young and others will win, and the result will be a fantastic string of NCAA team titles!

It is a special group... the best Iowa's done in many years.

My prediction of 4x AA and 2x champ for Warner = pathetic
Your prediction of 4x AA and 2 or 3x champ for Warner = precision accuracy

...got it

As far as Lee, your "excellent chance of 4x champ and going undefeated" .... how many times have we heard calls like that? I hope you're right, but in the ~90 year history of collegiate wrestling, that kind of record has only been accomplished once ( by he who shall remain unnamed).

Stuff happens. I'm a Penn State fan and I've predicted Lee going 4 for 4. Rossel is taking the cautious approach. Teasdale is awesome but there is some serious competition with Suriano or RBY or Fix in the future. If Suriano and/or Fix stay 125, no guarantee Lee wins 4. And that's just PSU and OSU. You guys got a gem with Warner but a lot of guys seem to come out of nowhere at that weight

Lee is not your typical "great" wrestler, he's something special. Surprised others don't realize that.
I remember when David Taylor was not your typical "great" wrestler either. Was going to be the next undefeated four timer. Stepped into a cradle in his freshman finals. Then Dake happened. Lost only 4 times in his career and won two titles. Sometimes even the best of them have off nights and come up against a nearly equal opponent who has a style that works well. Can Lee win four titles and go undefeated? Yes. Can anyone reasonably predict that? Hell no. That's the sort of fan pressure that helps to flame out some guys. Just enjoy Spencer and the rest will follow.

Well, and if we should be technical he too had a loss in his redshirt season. Thanks to Iowa's Paul Jenn.

Looks like last night you were doing some serious drugs, hope you stayed home. Driving with that strong of tinted glassed even if you weren't drugged out of your mind would sure get you in a wreck. Hope your OK, please post this morning to let everybody know your OK! Concerned parent.

Actually, he's not as good as I thought - he's already lost to Fix twice, and will probably lose in college to Fix, Suriano, Picinnini and others.

Why don't you just add the Carver ice cream guy in there. If Spencer puts on weight and is cutting roughly the same amount as the above...ill take him all day long. He had no problem getting in on Fix's legs in the aforementioned matches.

as you know anything can happen to anyone on any given day..just ask tom, he let us know on Friday that if a kid has a head, one and/or two arms, and/or two legs you have to come prepared to wrestle. As for Lee he just needs to show up, dominate, go home.

Thanks for the insight Albert.

One of my favorite observations has to do with relativity: the laws of physics are the same for all non-accelerating observers, and the speed of light in a vacuum is independent of the motion of all observers.

Fix isn't going to have the advantage of getting those "freestyle" points on Lee in college. I like Lee all day long on Fix, and winning tight matches against Suriano if he can get his weight up.

I agree that there is no guarantee with any wrestler going from one level to the next. Some kids transition better than others and all we can assume is the likelihood of success based on prior results. No person can guarantee future success based on past success. It has yet to be earned and there are plenty of examples of cant miss recruits who fell apart once in college.

Are you really worried that Lee won't grow into a full sized 125'er before taking the mat for the Hawks?

Not many of us healthy 'murican men weigh in under 130 lbs two years after graduating from highschool. Lee doesn't appear anemic to me snd I doubt he's done growning.

If'n I was to forced into having a particular worry about SL it might be his shoulder.

AZ told PSU fans on BWI yesterday that grammar corrections could not continue after the season had started. I note that Iowa has yet to begin their dual season, so...

If'n is incorrect English and snd is noted as a spelling error, as is growning. Additionally, most states put a space between high and school. Clean it up soldier. Not asking agin. ;)

Someone's gotta be in the 5th percentile. I am 31 years removed from high school graduation and I'm still less than 130 lbs. Heck, I was too small to be competitive at 118 lbs in college.

Wasn't Minny's Sanders undersized? He did well as a multi-year AA, but he never threatened to stand on top of the podium. Hopefully the right diet and workout regimen will bulk Lee into a solid 125 lb multi-champ contender.

Even sadder...my wife and I were looking in the mirror yesterday and I realized I'm shrinking! We used to be about the same height and now she's noticeably taller (and I'm balding to boot). At least I'm wiser and have more money than I did 30 years ago ;)
