Gable Steveson: Stirring The Pot?

Even sadder...my wife and I were looking in the mirror yesterday and I realized I'm shrinking! We used to be about the same height and now she's noticeably taller (and I'm balding to boot). At least I'm wiser and have more money than I did 30 years ago ;)

be like Tom Cruise....get some shoe lifts

Someone's gotta be in the 5th percentile. I am 31 years removed from high school graduation and I'm still less than 130 lbs. Heck, I was too small to be competitive at 118 lbs in college.

Wasn't Minny's Sanders undersized? He did well as a multi-year AA, but he never threatened to stand on top of the podium. Hopefully the right diet and workout regimen will bulk Lee into a solid 125 lb multi-champ contender.
Dude! One thing I know for sure, if we ever cross paths, I'm buying you a big-ass sammich! ;)

Yeah, but as we all know, it's the size of the fight in the dog, not the dog in the fight! Like AF, Lee has plenty of that.

In all seriousness, I don't think Spencer will have any trouble filling out into a full-sized 125-pounder in 2 years. I don't think his shoulder is a big concern at this point, but I'd be more worried about the shoulder holding up than Spencer being big enough to go at 125.

I don't know much about shoulder surgeries but Kyven Gadson had shoulder surgery in 2011 (prior entering the linup as a redshirt freshman) and had no problems thereafter. The same for Jason Tsirtsis - who had shoulder surgery prior to college. Then there's Darrion Caldwell, Nickerson, Altons, et al.

The good news is that it apears Lee had the operation to head off an inevitable injury (as opposed to actually having the disasterous injury) and he has rehabed well.

Actually, Gadson went on record several times as saying his injury/should/surgery flared up a bunch of times during his career. Also, Tsirtsis(although much more tight lipped about it) was rumored to have similar issues, especially last season.

Lee may very well recover 100% without a notable issue. Still, DI is an incredible grind and areas of your body will hurt all the time when they have never been injured, let alone areas that have been surgically repaired. Plus, all that doesn't factor in your opponents influence. If you know your opponent has a "weak spot", you do your best to work on that, especially when they are as good as Lee. If I were his seriously mismatched opponent, I would be doing my best to work on his shoulder. It probably wouldn't work, but what other options would I have?

So, you're an advocate of intentionally attempting to injure an opponent or am I reading this wrong?

Thanks, I feel much better now.

BTW MSU, I hope you never get into grief counseling or motivational speaking, you're such a bummer.

No. The main intent is not to hurt someone. However, if you know someone has a weak limb or especially has a wrap on his arm or knee, etc. you are a moron if you don't work legal wrestling moves on that area. If you don't think this is talked about in wrestling rooms and in the corner, you are fooling yourself.

Sorry. I did say try to point out that I thought Lee could make a 100% recovery. I just specifically remembered the flare ups for Gadson and the rumors about Tsirtsis. To be clear, I don't expect Lee to have any significant issues with his shoulder and do expect him to be a 4x finalist!

I agree.

I believe there was a Hawk wrestler recently echoing the same sentiment concerning lower tier competition?

That's the spirit!

Enough with Lee's shoulder. It's like a Tommy John, I had the same surgery and it's the strongest joint in my body. He was even younger and more resilient than I was. The shoulder doesn't even cross my mind.

Picking the field vs one university is really going out on a limb. Kick Rocks
How about this... I'll say it's tOSU, PSU, or maybe Nebraska. Gophers will be listed in his top five as a courtesy... similar to Berge, Hall, Parriot, Stoll, and any other number of top in-State kids who shunned the maroon and gold. Ski U Mah!

Now you want to bet?

Wait....what......Kick Rocks???

I don't think so.

It's not a pick against the field. That's just a lame excuse to try to deflect our view of your prediction. It just shows your lack of confidence and now you are trying to weasel out of your statement.

It's either or. MN or not. 50/50 Simple.

Back it up or not. Either way shows us who you are.

Make a wise choice. GG needs some money for wrestling shoes for some kids.

Why would one ever bet on the decision of a 16-18 year old?

I didn't realize we were bound to take each thing posted to the grave with us and if ever wrong that it shows who I am?

I feel comfortable predicting Gable to MN, but again see first statement. I also acknowledge that I may be proven incorrect in the end. I have acknowledged that Gable's recruiting process could be the death of me. There is no such thing as a sure thing.

Can we go back to Mitch saying MN sucks and me saying nuh uh yet?

Mitch and grappler sitting in a tree... but for real, shirt bet!!
For the last year or so, Gopher fans were saying RBY and GS are a package deal. That never made any sense. For one thing, no one knows the financial package offered to them. Secondly, it conflicts with their premise that he wanted to wrestle with his brother since RBY to PSU.

What I gather from this whole saga, from a Gopher fan perspective, is this... they thought/hoped they were getting Young. When that went south... suddenly the family ties make him a Gopher.

Let's look at facts and history to gleam the likely ending...no Young, interim HC, a program in disarray, continually losing the top in-State guys, and better programs seeking his signature. You really think he goes to Gopherland? I sure don't see it!

Gable was saying they were a package deal. Fans relayed that message. Gable also said RBY, Teasdale and himself were a package deal. They must all be waiting to punk the wrestling world. Well at least one, if not both, of Gable's proclamations will be proven false. See how fun betting on a kids word is?

So you think Gopher fans thought Gable would be a Gopher because of RBY's ties to the program?

Steveson family is really close. They are also really close to the Gopher program.

A lot more likely he is a Gopher than being a Hawkeye or even taking an official to Iowa City. Don't think there is any love between the 2 programs and don't think the family/Bobby will be encouraging Gable to even a look at the Hawkeyes

You know them personally?

If Minny loses Gable the fans just might start a riot. That would be a huge loss

Nope, just like 95% of the people on this forum. Just my opinion, just like 95% of the people on this forum

That is why I said "I think"

Show us a quote on this forum where someone expects him to be a Hawk?

I think we'll be waiting a long time for you.

Any suspensions this week at ISU?

Hopefully he joins Gavin Teasdale & becomes a Hawkeye!

So he is indeed, "stirring the pot". Maybe he has it slimmed down to his top 3? I think Iowa is definitetly still in his consideration

With the addition of Lee, Teasdale, and Warner( all friends of Gable) and a couple of buddies already on the team will at least earn Iowa an official visit. Still think Minny is ahead with PSU nipping at there heals.

Are you drunk? Your last two posts directly contradicted themselves!

Kids and tweets are somewhat silly and misleading. Certain athletes just crave attention

Agreed, definitely an uphill battle for Iowa
