Does Terlouw ever play snaps? I noticed the other 2nd team DL guys do get in but have not seen him.

He played 10 or so against Purdue. Ekakite and Nelson got more time against Purdue than they have in previous games. Both of them flashed on some plays.

Should have re-phrased. I wonder if we'll see Duzey make a catch before the season ends.

In my opinion, Spears, Terlouw, Nelson and Faith need 10-15 snaps the next couple of games.

The fact that our DL has been playing 95% of the snaps is frustrating. I know the depth may not be proven behind them but I think we've clearly seen a drop off in their play the last few weeks. They are consistently getting pushed 3-4 yards off the line and not getting any pass rush whatsoever.

I'm not suggesting whole sale line changes at a time, but work guys in for a snap or two at a time and keep the starters fresh. We need to generate a pass rush and get back to stuffing the run in order to win the next two.

Speaking of playing time, injuries, and guys coming back. Someone on the Twitter said Darian Cooper got in for a play for senior day? I'm assuming this was a novelty of giving him one last snap in Kinnick and he isn't going to be able to contribute this season, even if Iowa's last game is in the second week of January?

Yes, Cooper did play one or two snaps. Or at least a big dude wearing number 95 which is what number Cooper was listed for in the program.

That is pretty cool that they go him in there. Can't imagine how frustrating it would be to be injured like he was when he had a lot of potential.

Why is it frustrating? Back in 2004, the starting DL played an even higher percentage of snaps than that ... and, as I recall, backup rarely EVER got rotated in. This season, Ekakatie and Nelson rotate in a bit. Thus, for the most part, we've been playing 6 deep on the DL. Earlier in the season, we'd be getting Terlouw in more. As others have indicated, in goal-line situations ... Bud Spears and Terlouw get situational reps.

At DT, I think that we're adequately deep. We can AT LEAST go 2 deep at defensive tackle. The bigger problem is that we only have a rotation of 3 guys at DE. The good news is that that implies that Matt Nelson is getting A LOT of quality reps. The bad news about that is that we're simply not deep. Harris would have been able to work himself in the picture at DE had he not been out for most of the season with an injury.

Spears got some reps at DE this week. At some point in the second half, the D-Line was Spears, Ekakatie ,Terlouw and Nelson. Before garbage time.

It's frustrating because we're starting to see the effects. We are giving up 27 ppg the last 3 games and I attribute that directly the the DL. There is 0 pass rush, none at all. We are at the bottom of the B1G in TFL.

The last 3 weeks, we've allowed 5.8 YPC to the lead running back, totaling 347 yards. We've also allowed 6 rushing touchdowns. They are starting to get blown 3-4 yards off the line because they are running on empty.

The offense being so efficient is the saving grace right now.

The difference between what we BOTH want and what we've observed is a simple matter of the D needing to get off on 3rd downs. The D has still been doing a fairly decent job of forcing 3rd downs ... but unless you get off the field, the opposition will have their chance to drive the field and potentially score.

As for allowing the opposition to score ... for the most part, the D has been forcing opposing teams to be systematic and burn clock. Thus, even though the opposition has been scoring more than we like, they're still scoring from behind AND taking too much time to do so. That sort of outcome still favors the Hawkeyes.

Strategy 101...this limits possessions and helps keep scores somewhat lower...forces them to play the kind of offensive game Iowa wants to play.
