Unfortunately if the season is shortened but still played it will likely screw Garza out of passing Roy's career points record. He's at 1559 and lost at least 2 game's worth of points by the season getting cancelled early last year which would have put him over 1600 or higher with deeper runs. And a full year this coming season would have put him up around or well over 2400 career points and comfortably in 4th place all time in the conference, potentially challenging Glen Rice for 3rd depending upon the number of tournament games played.

Right now he needs 558 to pass Roy. If he keeps his 23.9 ppg average from this past year, he needs 24 games to pass him. If his average drops to 22 ppg, he needs 26 games. If the season gets cut down to 20 games, he's going to have to put in work to get the record, averaging 27.9 ppg with no missed games. Or we're going to need some deep runs in the tourneys if they even happen.

I guess the big question is, if the season gets cancelled, does he stay one more year since he hadn't really had a chance to prove himself for the NBA? Or does he just move on with his life?

I won't be surprised if hoops gets pushed to starting in January and finish in May. While I question whether or not fans are able to attend games, depending on if/when a vaccine becomes widely available, I do have much higher hopes that a full hoops season comes than I am that football ultimately happens on the college level.

It will suck if he falls short of the record solely because of the virus. I actually expect his ppg avg to drop at least somewhat, in large part because I expect him to play fewer min/game with the deeper roster this year.

I'm guessing that his scoring average drops slightly.....he is going to work on passing out of double teams and bettering his defense....plus teams will take their defensive efforts up a couple notches.

So, hopefully, the deep deep tourney runs are what he gets!

IMO I think it will depend on the team / match ups he faces. It wouldn't surprise me if he has a fair number of games where he scores 30+

He seems to be well liked by his teammates and I think they will try to give him multiple opportunities to score.

I thought there was about a 10% chance that he would come back to Iowa so it 's just awesome that we Iowa Fans get to watch him for another season.

I would say there's no way he stays another year, record or not. Frankly, while I'd love to see him get the record, I don't really care as long as we win the conference. If Luka averages 19-20 points and JBO, Weezy, and CJ have big years, will be hard to beat.....

Excuse me,folks, but Luka is a senior. Unless he's Jess Settles, he's done after this year.

The premise is if the season gets cancelled before it starts he can take a redshirt and play one more. That is without the NCAA even making any special eligibility rules for a season cancellation.
