General Kelly confirmed it

Unique talents and abilities? Leadership, right? He got people working together, right?

There are so many people with those qualities. Why would Trump choose Hitler to admire for those qualities when there are so many much better candidates?

It should take only a tiny amount of perspective to realize this is strange behavior for anyone, especially a public figure, the POTUS to be musing about. Managers at McDonald's would make the news and get fired for making comments to a direct report.

You'd look way less like a lunatic if you just said Kelly is lying. He's a Never Trumper, who is looking to profit from being anti - Trump.
Sums up this accounts presence. Pitiful

for the most part the German Army did well despite Hitler not because of him. He was an absolutely horrible military leader, really should have listened to Generals.
There is a part in the beginning, about finding a goal to work towards, you are glossing over.

He was a paranoid drug addict, psychopath and failed artist and a coward. My heroes were the allied soldiers who gave it their all and whose used jocks the losers on here couldn't sniff. Figuratively and perhaps literally. Losers.
Mine 2. But I can recognize they had to beat a decent opponent.

Hitler had shitty leadership skills....no sane person would even try to connect Hitler with their self. My communication skills suck, but at no time in my life have I ever thought about how I could emulate Hitler to improve those skills
I cannot even believe this is a point of discussion. Hitler preyed on the German peoples’ base fears when the country was at its weakest. He was a mad man and a lunatic. His own people tried to assassinate him once they realized how insane he was. He made many terrible strategic blunders during WWII that led to the demise of Hitler’s Third Reich and lost Germany the war.

I mean, why stop with Hitler, though? Vladimir Lenin transformed an entire nation and Joseph Stalin was a very strong leader. In terms of charming men, no doubt Ted Bundy is the guy every aspiring playboy should try to emulate first and foremost.

JFC. The fact the MAGA idiot brigade is trying to normalize admiration of Adolf Hitler is very telling. Unbelievable.

Oh, and yeah, when deciding whom to believe first, John Kelly or Donald Trump, that’s just so difficult to navigate. Might have to hedge our bets on that one. 🙄

The fact you can see calling someone evil a dozen times isn't "admiration" is telling.

My guess is that most of MAGA nation and the collective reaction will be to claim fake news, Kelly is lying, or just ignore it. Brief mention and move on type of thing.

Most people and almost certainly the campaign will not take Whiskey's approach in this thread. I think this speaks more to Whiskey's particular affliction than representative of MAGA as a whole.

We'll see, I could be wrong.

The number of people who get millions of people working together < the number of people who make good pasta.
Even for that hypothetical scenario -- Hitler? Really?

Ultimately it's about context. Unless Trump and whomever else were engaging in a rousing discussion about Hitler's strengths and weaknesses as a leader, it's not going to be a positive to have the president invoke his name as an example of anything positive. In fact... it just might make people go WTF. And it'll be all the more concerning if it comes from the mouth of a president that had a history of expressing admiration for authoritarian/strongman type leadership.

From the article:
Trump told him that “Hitler did some good things.”

Mr. Kelly confirmed previous reports that on more than one occasion Mr. Trump spoke positively of Hitler.

“He commented more than once that, ‘You know, Hitler did some good things, too,’” Mr. Kelly said Mr. Trump told him.

Mr. Kelly said that Mr. Trump had little appreciation for history — “I think he’s lacking in that,” he said — but said that he would still try to explain to Mr. Trump why those comments about Hitler were problematic.

“First of all, you should never say that,” Mr. Kelly said that he told Mr. Trump. “But if you knew what Hitler was all about from the beginning to the end, everything he did was in support of his racist, fascist life, you know, the, you know, philosophy, so that nothing he did, you could argue, was good — it was certainly not done for the right reason.”

Mr. Kelly said that would usually end the conversation. But Mr. Trump would occasionally bring it up again.

That reads as though it was something Trump would quip about from time to time. Firmly in the WTF camp for me. And part of a broader trend in behavior by Trump surrounding authoritarian type figures. (he doesn't seem too bothered by them)

It just takes so much brain power to admit a guy who pulled a country out of a depression and got millions of people working towards a common goal might have had some leadership abilities......

Grow the **** up.

The guy was evil, he had more leadership ability than 99% of the people who have walked the earth. His goal was evil, but there is a reason not everyone can take on the world.

I think people—fake news media or otherwise—are so desensitized to the Trump insanity that the latest dumb shit with Trump is always just another day that ends in y.

I don’t read anything anymore from the MAGA idiot brigade, but I am sure all of them have contributed thoughtful, well-reasoned input to the discussion.

Of course Hitler was able to do things leaders of democratic societies weren't able to do. Communist Russia saw some incredible economic success under its authoritarian regime for a while too.
