General Kelly confirmed it

It's dangerous to view despots like Hitler as nothing more than evil incarnate, as this simplistic view tends to make you believe that it will be quite easy to identify the next one,.. There's a reason why Hitler was able garner such widespread support from the German population, and it's not because he was nothing more than evil...

Believe it or not, before you guys started constantly comparing Trump to Hitler, resaonable conversations regarding hitlers leaderships skills could happen.... while acknowledging he had horrible intentions.
There is a style of authoritarian, Machiavellian leadership that is effective when the people you are leading are uneducated aggrieved folks who, for whatever reason, believe they got a raw deal in life. It was employed effectively by Hitler, by Mussolini, by Qaddafi and many others.

This IS Trump’s playbook.

This style seeks to blame others (the illegal immigrants cutting our lawns and harvesting our vegetables). It demonizes those that are different (trans, LGBTQ). It wraps itself in a nationalist ideology (flag hugging, God Bless the USA) which says if only those others weren’t here you would be exceptional. And most importantly it establishes a cult of personality which says only the leader can save you from those “others”.

Using those techniques is not “good” leadership, it is horrible leadership. It seeks to divide us for the benefit of the leader. Trump does not actually care about you. He is using a proven playbook to manipulate you. I just wish you would see it more clearly.

No one is saying Hitler wasn’t a leader and no one is saying Trump is not a leader. They are saying that style of leadership should have NO PLACE in American politics. And yet here we are.

He "garnered support from the German population" by giving them someone to blame for their problems, you f'n dolt. Then he set for them the task of eliminating those people from the population. What - exactly - about that isn't evil?

And if you CAN'T see that coming from a mile away, that's a "you" problem.

You said it far more clearly - and much nicer - that I. I'm not retracting my post, however. ;)

It is nauseating to watch these people defend HITLER as a "good leader". What has happened to this country?

Sustainability isn't the question, he got them out of depression and working.

Guys, it isn't hard, the guy could lead people. He was evil personified but he could get people pulling together. As soon as you let go of your pearls about how Trump has been compared to hitler, you can step back and say the guh had some ability, while being a horrible person.
He was an effective communicator not a particularly good leader. What is more important for a leader than the vision they seek to achieve? He had a horrible vision. He also was so beholden to his ideology that he abandoned reason and practicality. This was costly to his military. He was always doomed to failure.

In terms of Trump he is an effective communicator. He has harnessed the fascist energy with his language and scapegoating class warfare. He is not an actual fascist though. He has no ideology. He is guided almost exclusively by his narcissism.

Find some different threads. @RagnarLothbrok has certainly jumped on the dox train like the rest of the POS with Chis. He won't admit because it would make him seem like a POS and not the deep thinking person he wants us to believe he is. POS just like WDT and Fran
Look. I'm not going to start perusing other threads in search of offensive behavior. That's what keeps this nonsense going and I'm not signing up to be the morality police. In this particular instance that I came across, Ragnar posted a comment where there was nothing stated that was untowards Chis and yet Chis felt the need respond with something that had nothing to do with it. I don't have a dog in this fight other than trying to keep the overtly personal vendetta attacks minimized so as to keep a thread on topic. It shouldn't be that difficult but for some of the sociopaths on here it appears to be nearly impossible.

You're talking about a guy that immediately blamed Mexicans for the school shooting in Perry. He's a racist POS that would proudly get on his knees if Trump asked him to.
I’ll never understand why people choose to engage the obvious troll. Is it because 1% of his non-political posts aren’t absolute BS. It’s obvious he gets off on arguing with people and is most likely just a contrarian.

I don't know, I think he might truly just be a gullible moron. Ever since he revived the Pizzagate bullshit trying to make it sound like it wasn't actually a conspiracy theory I knew he had lost his shit.

Then he went deep defending the conspiracy about immigrants eating pets. He's just one of those people that believe what they want to believe, facts be damned. But he will HAPPILY support a rapist/rape.

You Dems sure are a stupid bunch. Can't even spell "Want of Bee" correctly. What the hell is a "Wannabe"??
You're asking me? Who's the stupid one? Another ****ing idiot trying to act smart.

Or an ignorant piece of shit who believes that the Dear Leader's admiration of Hitler is warranted and worthy of a stout defense.

Interesting timeline. Trump made his Hitler comments to Kelly 6 years ago. They were revealed in a book published 3+ years ago. Yet don’t get blown up in the media til a few weeks before the election?

Somewhat similar to Bob Woodward sitting on Trump’s comments on how deadly covid was for 3+ years until his book was ready to be published.

Can’t blame Kelly for being bitter. His son gets killed overseas in service to the Mikitary Industrial Complex while Kelly himself was working as vice-chair of Spectrum Group, a defense contractor lobbying firm. He also worked for another defense contractor, DynCorp.

Sometimes Karma bites hard. 😱

Maybe because Kelly feels compelled to make sure voters understand from someone who knows 1000 x more about the man than any voters how unfit this POS is to serve. I'll take the General's word over the pathological liar in chief every time. But you take the word of the Dear Leader who lies every time he opens his mouth. Smart.

Notice how no elected Republicans are condemning Trump’s comments about using the military to lock up opponents? Is it because they are for it, or afraid of the dystopia he might bring where loyalty to the leader is put above all else, and they don’t want to get locked up?

Yeah he got his party to vote out democracy for him and made the military personally loyal to him and not to the country.

Sounds familiar.

Published 3+ years ago adds to their air of authenticity. At that point, everyone thought the GOP was done with Trump. We knew so little about how low they could sink.

If you're actually curious why this is coming up again it's because Kelly agreed to be interviewed on the record. Kelly had indicated that he would stay out of politics unless certain circumstances occurred, and apparently Trump musing about using the American military on American citizens was one of those circumstances for Kelly.

I suspect you'd rather rely on your imagination and gut feelings though.

It’s what they do…

WHEN GEN. JOHN KELLY WENT PUBLIC about Trump’s praise for Hitler and his fears about a dictatorial second Trump term, he joined a growing list of former Trump officials ringing the alarm.

He also sparked what has become a pathetic if not predictable pattern, in which a chorus of Trump sycophants obediently rush forward to explain away the alarming revelation and impugn the witness’s credibility.

Here’s reliable Trump lickspittle Scott Jennings telling us that Kelly probably made the whole thing up and that the real Hitlers are on college campuses. Trump apologist Ryan James Girdusky said, “I, honest to God, like most Americans, do not care about Gen. Kelly’s farewell tour.”

Brian Kilmeade on Fox and Friends said of Trump’s praise for Nazi generals: “I can absolutely see him go, ‘It'd be great to have German generals that actually do what we ask them to do,’ maybe not fully being cognizant of the third rail of German generals who were Nazis, or whatever.” (Not a parody.)

Trump confidante Mike Davis called Kelly “Gen. Christine Blasey Ford”—get it? Chris Sununu is unbothered: “We’ve heard a lot of extreme things from Donald Trump. With a guy like that, it’s kinda baked into the vote.” Sen. Bill Hagerty, on CNN, downplayed the entire revelation as a matter of personal dispute between two men. Kelly and Trump, he said, “were not a good fit.”
There is something deeply pernicious to this routine. These people want you to forget the cumulative weight of the accusations against Trump, especially when those accusations are coming from his own former employees—many of them high-ranking military officers. They’re doing so not because they don’t believe the accusations but because they know how harmful they could be.

most of Hitler's generals thought he was an idiot seems a pretty significant number of our generals have the same view of Trump

It just takes so much brain power to admit a guy who pulled a country out of a depression and got millions of people working towards a common goal might have had some leadership abilities......

Grow the **** up.

The guy was evil, he had more leadership ability than 99% of the people who have walked the earth. His goal was evil, but there is a reason not everyone can take on the world.
Why not do FDR? Or Ike? Or Churchill? You know, the guys who whipped Hitler’s ass until he blew his brains out like the pussy he was.

I feel like it’s not asking too much as an American to have those guys be higher on your list of go-to-leadership examples than Hitler.

Why not try getting with the f*cking winning team for a change?

Or maybe he's just been fully radicalized to the point where he is impervious to facts that don't comport with his view of things.
