my lord. this right here is spot on.
If Wisconsin is able to compete year in and year out like they have been (meaning one of the top most consistent teams in the country) then there is absolutely no reason why Iowa cannot do the same. Its utter horseshit to sit there and think that a top 10 season every few years and knocking off someone we shouldn't every year is the best Iowa can achieve.
It isn't even that Iowa isn't on par with Wisconsin anymore. The fact of the matter is we are significantly behind them and there is absolutely no reason that should be the case. I love Kirk and Co as much as the next guy but its time to pull the black and gold glasses down away and realize that one good season every 3-4 years and a few upsets sprinkled in are not the best that Iowa is capable of. Is consistency nice? sure to an extent. it's not nice when that consistency means a shot at 10+ wins every 3 years and settlings for 7 win seasons the rest.
There is absolutely no one in the big ten west outside of Wisconsin (again a team we should be on par with, year in and year out) that should stop us from being there in the big ten champ game every year. Yet here we are, Wiscy making it to 3/4 champ games out of the west (and 2/3 games out of the leaders) 5 championship appearances in the last 7 years. Meanwhile, Iowa has been once in the 7 years.
and before those of you come in with the "what better coach could we get" "Stability is good" "ect"... Realize that during the time that Wisconsin has made 5 Big ten championships in 7 years, they've had 3 different head coaches/coaching staffs. They finished with 10 or more wins 5 out of those 7 years. 9-4 and 8-6 in the two others. Iowa? one season with 10 or more wins (and we all know how that season worked out once we played someone with a pulse), the rest? 8-5 the best one after that. don't forget to toss the 4-8 year in there as well.
Wisconsin is 70-22 over the last 7 seasons.
Kirk is 51-36 the last 7 seasons. 39-34 when you remove the 12-2 cake walk schedule year. The absolute definition of a mediocre team that has a good season/game every once in a while.
I'm failing really hard to understand why Iowa benefits from the same coach year in and year out anymore. I suppose if the ultimate goal for the Hawks is to be the most average boring team in the country, well then I guess Kirks the right guy.
Maybe I am wrong though IDK. Maybe an upper midwest school like Wisconsin can be a college football powerhouse (at least in a big ten west, big ten champ game sense) and Iowa can't for no reason other than they can't be one.
... and that got away from me. suppose I was in need of a good ol rant
So KFs 1st 7 yrs dont count...okay??..unreal on unreal some r
