Goddamn You Kirk

LOL - Look at you! Kirk has a signed contract until the 2029 season ends and unless he gets an extension he'll be here until at least 2029.
If Kirk intends to coach at Iowa through the 2029 season, Goetz would have to negotiate an extension no later than 2027, preferably 2005 or 2026, otherwise recruiting will go right down the toilet. No decent recruit will commit to a lame duck coach and coaching staff. No AD in their right mind is going to waste 3 years of recruiting.

KF needs to do some soul searching because IMO the probability of receiving an extension into the 2030s is practically nil. The decision timeframe for Goetz is approaching. Best to retire and exit gracefully rather than being pushed out.

You really think holding MSU to...Zero punts...would have been a win with Sullivan,
I think the burden on the defense would have lightened had the offense been able to actually stay on the field and give them a rest between possessions. Missing tackles, which there was an astronomical amount of, are one of those things you see from a fatigued defense. They still held them to 12 after getting ZERO help from the offense. Even if the offense didn't score, a couple drives that actually went somewhere and kept them off the field would have been helpful.

There's no correct answer to that what if question, but I know the team had a far better chance.

That’s exactly what I said to my dad. Reminds me of Drew Tate. So discouraging it took this long to make the switch.
He has the attitude of Drew Tate but is much faster. Watch the replay of the little pass he made to the tight end. He passed him like he was standing still and was out front blocking down field.

If I recall correctly, there was an "injury" involved as the reason for pulling Spencer Petrus a few years ago.
Spencer actually was injured and Kirk played him anyway at Northwestern until it was obvious that a shoulder injury kept him from throwing the ball 10 yards in front of him. It was a ridiculous decision to have him out there in the first place.

Kirk may have a blind spot when it comes to his QB. But there haven’t been that many seasons where it has actually become an issue. I don’t think it is because he feels insulated due to his “tenure” as the HC or because he’s making millions (spoiler alert - every coach in college football is making millions). He’d be doing this if it was his first year as the HC. That’s how he’s wired.

In review 1999-2000 excluded. Not a lot of controversies.

2001 - McCann over Banks. Banks was better, and should have gotten some more chances. He did play in the Wisconsin game and wasn’t very good. But I still think he should have played more after what we saw him do in the Michigan game. Also, I think it proves my point that Kirk sticks with his guy, even though he was only 3 years into his time at Iowa.

2020. - Who was better than Petrus?
2021 - Who was better than Petrus? Padilla - at best, he was even with Petrus. Not saying Spencer was good, but no one else proved himself.
2022 - Who was better than Petrus?
2023 - Hill. Anyone was better than him
2024 - McNamara over Sullivan. Not at the start of the season. Good arguments that Sullivan should have been getting series other than st the goal line before yesterday.

So, arguably 5 seasons or partial seasons.

Then they need to fire him 2027 and pay that buyout. Hopefully Kirk does whats right for the program and leaves before that.

With NIL recruiting has change 100% players go for the money not the coach, unfortunately Iowa does have the shittiest fanbase in the B1G when it comes to donating to SWARM.

We’d have one loss to OSU right now and still in the hunt for the postseason if Sullivan had been starting from day 1. Get the fvck gone you fvcking dinosaur.
Yeah, or other teams would have had enough film on him to realize he ends up running like 50% of the pass plays. That works for awhile, but he's going to have to be able to throw the ball eventually.

I think we probably beat ISU with Sulllivan, but who knows, we could have lost @ Minnesota or home against Washington w/ Sullivan after teams got some tape and tendencies.

We'll learn a lot more next week and then @ UCLA.

Iowa’s roster, like most programs, will be 95% high school recruiting with or without Ferentz and irrespective of NIL.

You have conceded that Iowa does not have sufficient NIL to compete -a fact which reinforces my point that KF should retire (or be terminated) by 2026 because Goetz wont be extending his employment into the 2030s.

  • 2023: 63-for-99 passing, 714 yards, 6 TDs, 2 INTs, 75 carries, 160 yards, 2 TDs.
  • 2022: 71-for-96 passing, 589 yards, 4 TDs, 3 INT, 54 carries, 97 yards, 1 TD.

I don’t know why everyone who typically defends the ol capt thinks Sullivan can’t throw. We didn’t need him to yesterday and he played 1 half of fvcking football. Last two years when he was playing he’s completed almost 70% of his passes. What else ya got bro?

LOL Kirk will finish up his contract, he will retire at the end of the 2029 season. The football program makes money off the TV deal, whether people are in the stands or not.

No chance he finishes 2029 season without an extension before 2007. Zero. You’re kind of dumb tbh. Keep on rocking in the free world.

Agreed that we are on a scale now where in person attendees spend won't matter as much due to the shared tv revenues. Always seems like half of the NFL stadiums are half empty during games any more. NFL tickets are astronomically high for season tix.

He'll finish up his contract as HC. Then Iowa will still give him an office in the football complex for the rest of his life, btw he will also be part of the search committee for his replacement.

Hopefully a couple nights' sleep will give Kirk the clarity to see that Sullivan needs to be the starting QB.
