Where do Hawkeye fans go before or after the game? This will be our first football game in Madison. I am not sure if I should be excited or scared.
I've heard that you're no likely to experience a good time there as far as being treated with respect. I know for a fact that the Wiscy folks were douchenozzles both games I've went to at Kinnick the past two years. They got quieted down pretty quickly by Iowa fans, but the fact they started running their mouths the way they did was telling. I think they were reminded real quick that they weren't in Madison.Where do Hawkeye fans go before or after the game? This will be our first football game in Madison. Hawklover, Hawk fans that I know who have made the trip to Madison have never related to me that they had a bad experience-quite the contrary. That includes a guy who during the Fry years had a black and gold Superman oufit and walked through not only through the tailgating areas but also the stadium.
Does that mean that incidents some individuals report here don't happen? No, I am sure they do but they are in a small minority. Believe it or not, some happen at Kinnick too ( I have actually seen more B1G games in Kinnick than CR) and not just in games against the Badgers.
Some general observations:
1. Come with the mindset of cheering on the Hawks but recall that State Street is not Melrose Drive.
2. When I sense testosterone and alcohol, I back off and keep my comments to myself.
3. Unless you have some friends in Cardinal and White in your group, I would stay away from the frat areas and house parties just to the west of the stadium, before or after the game. Taking a victory lap is inviting a reaction.
4.Buckyville( just north and slightly east of the stadium) and Union South are well policed areas where fan bases mingle well imho. Essen Haus Restaurant/Bar seems to do a strong business catering to visitors. Epenesa may have thought on this.
5. No alcohol in CR, carried in or purchased.
6. Some fans walk into the stadium with too much booze in their bloodstreams. The confines of CR are a no tolerance zone. Security is tight. Visitors claiming harassment are given the benefit of the doubt and suspects are removed from the premises and may be reported to the Madison police. The students shout insipid and gross expressions periodically but remember that they are shouting at each other. If necessary, cover young ears. It's nothing you haven't heard before.
7.The bathrooms and concourses are areas where fan bases do come into close contact and which are not as highly policed. If there is a problem, go to the vendors which are about 2 feet apart and ask for assistance.
8. Like Mate in Argentina, offering a brew to someone and consuming it together is a social experience.
9. Speaking of social experiences, don't mess with "Varsity".
10. Do join in on Jump Around. No one's watching. Joining in on the Wave burns calories and can break some tension.
11. Brush up on the words to Sweet Caroline and Build Me Up Buttercup. They will be sung win or loose.
12. I still stay for the 5th Quarter, when the Band adlibs.
13. BTW, the Memorial Union Terrace is under construction. Have to get your beer off campus.
Generally, you can find what you are looking for in Madison on game day. Win or lose, I hope you have a great time. Madison and CR do get high marks for game day atmosphere from outside sources. Weather report sounds ideal also!

The quote "Son, being fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life." directly applies to a large portion of the badger fan base.Hands down, worst fan base in the B1G.

Section W, row 55.
There was a thread on this late last week if you care to look back, but the largest concentrations will be:Where do most Hawk fans sit?
I will be in section X Row 19 or so
There was a thread on this late last week if you care to look back, but the largest concentrations will be:
1) around you:
2)to your immediate left in the south end zone and
3) across the field and up in Section AA, on the far left end of the upper deck.
Spit on? Was it because you are a vet? Or??Iowa is no angel either, every fan base has A holes who are jerks. As a Vet,I got spit on at Kinnick last year.

/QUOTE]
Every negative story I've heard about being an "away fan" at Camp Randall seems to involve the streets near the fraternity area. It seems the boys actively encourage each other to throw beers at away fans, dump beer on away fans, and then challenge them to a fight if they get pissed about it.
I've read some stories about people's WIVES being spilled on and then when the husbands get angry the mob of tough guys want to fight him.
Be safe and what Carlton said is true.stay away from house parties and have common sense.I have tail gated with hawk fans at CR and it was a good time.Be safe and enjoy your trip.
