Wiltjer and Sabonis are 6'10" and Karnowski stands at 7'1". Their next biggest player is 6'8" Nunez who gets 7 mpg and 6'5" Dranginis. Iowa goes 7'1", 6'10", 6'9, 6'9", 6'8", 6'6"..... Iowa is the bigger and deeper team by far. Don't know how Iowa could be considered to be smaller than them in any way. Someone keeps postig Gonzaga's season numbers as if those numbers mean anything playing in a weak league. I like Gonzaga.....to lose handily to the best B1G team not named Wisconsin.

As even-keeled this match-up appears to be, I do think our post players are better than they're getting credit for --

We aren't just height. We have more skill than most in Big-10. Both Karnowski AND Sabonis left 1 million per contract offers overseas to play college bball. Sabonis played in the Highest League in Europe, ranked 2nd behind the NBA. He played without pay. They offered him 600K per year at 17. Karnowski played professional ball and represents his Senior National team in Poland.

Sabonis is on all NBA mock-draft 1st Round and currently ranked Top-30 on Ford's list. He's only a Frosh and backing up Karnowski and Wiltjer. A future lottery pick by all reports.

Averages a near double double in limited mins. Fran Fraschilla, ESPN's Euro Analysis, stated Sabonis would be equivalent to a 5* recruit if he played in the States.

Wiltjer was a Top-20 ranked, 5* recruit, and McDonald's All-American. I hate stars, recruiting rankings, etc, yet point is, our bigs are talented.

Undervalued.

All media/talking heads talk about Pangos and he's pretty much become a household name, yet ONLY averages 11 ppg.

We are inside-outside.

I really like Iowa's bigs as well, very talented, skilled, developed. HUGE. No doubt you are taller.

As long as foul trouble doesn't take over for any team, it will be a downright battle underneath.

If all things stay equal and our bigs neutralize each other from a scoring standpoint, then you gotta ask yourselves...who has the better guards?

That...I believe...will end up the difference. Who hits more clutch shots.

height wise not so much but weight wise they are bigger

7'1 288 lbs Karnowski
7'1 294 lbs Edwards
6'10 230 lbs Sabonis
6'10 240 lbs Wiltjer

compare that to IA's bigs
7'1 245 lbs Woody
6'10 225 lbs Gabe
6'9 220 lbs White
6'9 208 lbs Uthoff

this will be a problem if the Zags are allowed to be as physical as they want to be.

to compare Purdue's bigs were these
7'0 260 lbs Hammonds
7'0 297 lbs Haas

so at least IA is not going into this game cold turkey as far as not facing big's like these.

Sidenote:

With how giant Purdue is, I'm shocked it took them double-OT to beat our conference rival, BYU this season.

BYU has no post presence whatsoever.

No biggie, just shocked as I've seen Purdue's size mentioned and compared to Gonzaga.

Interesting.

since I was printing my post lets look at the star rankings of IA players/

Woody was top 50 by every service and won the MVP award over Noel a NBA lottery pick and ranked as the 10th best center and 39th best player overall by ESPN
PG Gesell was top 100 by everybody and was rated the 13th best PG and 75th overall by ESPN
SF Uthoff was rated top 100 by all sites but 1 and he was rated the 14th best PF and 90th overall by ESPN

SG Jok until knee issues after his FR season was rated top 5 by all rating services and #1 by NY2LA in his class

PF White has been named a FR AA and was just named 1st Team All BT.

IA is not some back woods team of misfits. that Fran has thrown together. that is IA's starting 5.

It's because Purdue can't shoot the ball to save their lives and rely on mugging the other team to ugly up the game.

Also, Purdue at end of year >>>>>>>> Purdue at beginning of year. Looked awful in non-con and of course started to figure things out right around the time we played them.

Here is what ESPN's NBA draft guru, Chad Ford, posted yesterday about one of our bench players, Domas Sabonis:

"Mar 19 Update:[/B] The Zags' best NBA prospect doesn't even start for them. Sabonis, the son of NBA big man Arvydas Sabonis, plays just 20 minutes per night but has one of the highest rebounding rates in the country, has a lethal face-the-basket jumper, and plays with a high basketball IQ like his dad.

His total rebounding percentage is better than any freshman or sophomore in the country at 18.9 percent), size, great shooting percentages (74 percent at the rim, 48 percent on 2-point jumpers) and high basketball IQ for a player who doesn't turn 19 until May.

He's definitely a late first-round sleeper if he declares this year. "

Iowa has the ingredients, maybe just now have the brought the stew to the right temperature.

Bottom line, we've all seen Iowa look very good, and very average at different times this year. If the Iowa team of yesterday shows up, Iowa's got a chance, but it wouldn't be a blowout (I don't think). If the team that shows up 2 games ago comes to play, we'll lose by 17.

I'm really looking forward to it, and the fact is Iowa will be the team playing with nothing to lose, as last year's collapse has been flushed at this point. Has Gonzaga flushed its 2nd round exit streak of 5 straight? Tomorrow will tell.

IA has gone 8-2 the last BT games and 9-3 in the last 12, in those 6 conference losses 2 were to #1 SEED Wisconsin
TX
ISU
UNI
in O
Syracuse
OOC play,

Wisconsin twice
Purdue
MSU
Minnesota

IA has lost to some pretty good teams and they did beat
@ UNC
@ O$U then beat them @ home
Maryland.

does anyone really think that IA is just going to throw in the towel at the thought of playing Gonzaga, as for Purdue they won when White was hurt, kinda like Rutgers beating Wisconsin when they were without Kaminski

Excuse me for asking but didn't BYU beat Gonzaga on their own court? How did that happen?
