Good Team, Great Year

When you lose in the first round to a much lower seed hard to call it a great year.
remember alfaud's team in 2006 or something when he was a 3 seed and lost in true alfraud fashion by blowing a 17 point lead with under 8 minutes to go to lose to NW state. Yeah, nobody remembers that as a great year. most remember it to be a good team with the ending alfraud deserved.

I suppose in a lot of ways Iowa did overachieve this season. They were a bubble team at the onset of the season and even until end of January early February.

The BTT championship turned out to be fools gold.
Fool's gold in the sense that we shouldn't have gotten all the hype, yeah.................

The other thing is that we probably need to stop celebrating the BTT as much as we do. We're now 1-3 in NCAA Tournament games in years we won the B10 Tournament.

Might wanna make sure that's it's more of a stepping stone, and not a lifetime achievement realized.............

Remember that so vividly my sister was getting married in Lake Tahoe and we were gambling and getting shitty early in the morning before the wedding that I barely made because I was so shitty faced

If Iowa was 8/9 seeed and hadnt won the BTT… would we even care?

hawks have some good peices in place to repeat the unexpected results of this year.

Go Hawks

Don’t know recent stats on this but it seems like winning the BTT is the kiss of death in the tourney for a lot of teams over the years? I understand being the only game on Sunday is great revenue but they may want to rethink this.

Barta loves you.

See, this is the problem. Saying “it was a good season” is different than saying “Fran’s 12 year run has been successful enough and Fran should be retained.”

Fran has taken us as far as he can. Time for a new coach. But it won’t happen.

Not really. Every season ends. You then look at the whole season, if you are not emotion driven.
That's complete B.S. I NEVER, EVER look back at 2006, with all the "emotions" gone, and think "You know, that really was a great season."

Ok.

But you know as well as I do that this attitude of "it was a good year for Iowa and I enjoyed watching the lads develop..." is a dead end.

This dude is making millions. After 12 years, he has one BTT title to his name. Barta exists on the rube factor of our fans.

Seasons are measured by how well you do in the NCAA Tournament. That is why they have the tournament, to crown a champion and to allow your program to see how it stands up to the top teams in the country.

It is not about being driven by emotions.

Richmond won their tournament.

There is a difference between getting it done in regular season and imposing your will in BTT and the being hot and going into NCAA....

vs being 12-8, never a factor in B1G race and then winning B1G, in part thanks to Indiana knockng off Illinois

Winning the BTT was great, but this team spent the 4 day week celebrating and doing interviews and JBO and CMAC lashing out at perceived slights instead of being ready for a dogfight.

This teams weakness still ended up being defense. You will never be great defense playing JBo and Rebraca who is a well below average post defender, PMAC is long, but not able to keep up with opposing 3's that are universally quicker...

If they had a better defense, they could have survived a chitty shooting day.

The guy that played he hardest, smartest, and dirtiest was that Burton azzhole on other team.

How do you remember the 2006 season? I remember it as long to NW State in the 1st round on an absolute choke job with under 8 minutes to go

I remember that. But also unknown Alex Thompson coming off bench late to spark the BTT championship game win. A late Horner bucket to win at Indiana. A presumed Bruner/Dials near-fight broken up by the refs, only for those two to laugh and indicate “that’s just how we play”. Haluska bombs at Michigan. Probably other things if I try hard.

Make yourself miserable by concentrating on the negatives if you wish. Count me out.

I'd honestly rather have lost in semis. Would have been hungry for NCAAs.
