Good thing about the Pinstripe Bowl

Last year's attendance at the Pinstripe Bowl was about
37,000.

Game time temperature this season could be below 32
degrees

Who wants to sit in Yankee Stadium in December?

Bottom Line: Hawkeyes Fans will be fewer in attendance
than any of our previous Bowls in the 21st century

Thankfully, then, it has had about zip relevance to the team’s performance in bowl games anyway. Looking forward to a win.

Maybe they move BF to the sidelines so he can enjoy the weather too.

Iowa brings one of the most boring offenses to a time slot that is good for afternoon nap.

I know 5 people who don't and won't.

I really can’t believe how negative sentiment is. They were expected to win, what, 6.5 games by Vegas prior to the season? Yes, they shat the bed against Purdue, NW, and arguably Ped St., but those of you who saw this as a 9 or 10 win team, feel free to bitch. Most of you are just negative across the board for reasons I can (and happily will) hypothesize about, but many people would have accepted 3 of 4 trophies and a woodshed victory over OSU prior to the season starting.

You can either continue crying about the past and things we have no ability to control or you can get onboard with rooting for the team you love.

I simplifies for you.

I went to the Pinstripe game when ISU got beat by Rutgers. It was 52 degrees at kickoff. NYC over the holidays is great fun. Stay in Manhattan. Take the subway to the game. It was a great trip. Of course, I love NYC. We make at least one trip a year there. It's a fantastic city.

NYC is a place everyone should go to once. Only once. That is enough. Manhattann is mindboggling for about 2 days, and then just an overcrowded shithole after that. Not to mention everything is way over priced. Nothing like paying $2500 just for a hotel.

The good thing about it is that if we play in it this year, we won't be "eligible" to play in it again in the near future. Yay!
This is the good news about this selection. As it was going to be a probable destination at some point might as well get it out of the way. Like a visit to the dentist or a colonoscopy.

Will be interesting to see as we get deeper into this contract how much they adhere to this 6 teams in 8 years thing, or whatever. I wonder if in a couple years the big ten Bowl “pecking order” will just look bizarre as teams are shuffled to avoid repeats

Exactly. We finished 7-5 and basically we’ve known this bowl was probably one of 2 options so not like it’s a surprise. Factor in Osu not getting into the playoffs (thanks to a 31 pt beat down at kinnick) and it took music city out of play since nwestern played in it last year. I mean are people really shocked we aren’t playing in Florida vs a top 25 team?

Funny thing most complaining about weather And nyc I’m guessing aren’t traveling to bowl anyways. As for weather both cold weather teams and remember few years back sitting in stadium in Miami in coldest orange bowl ever.

29/39.

I like that we got an opponent we should beat. I don't like that it's Wednesday at 4pm.

29. New Era Pinstripe Bowl: Boston College (7-5) vs. Iowa (7-5) – Wednesday, Dec. 27 (Bronx, N.Y.)

This is going to be fun if the Boston College that decimated Florida State and the Iowa that blew out Ohio State both show up. Otherwise, this game doesn’t do much for us on the entertainment meter. Boston College has developed into a consistent middle-tier team in the ACC and Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz stands to get richer with a bowl game win.

What?

also where the hell are you guys staying. I can get a great hotel in NYC for you for $200.

I see and agree with your point, but would also note that if you are playing in the Orange Bowl, or a bowl of that caliber, then nobody cares about the weather. But when you are playing in a mediocre bowl, against an opponent that isn't really exciting, then all of a sudden, crappy weather becomes another reason not to go.

this was all magnified by osu apparently taking a dive against iowa

All 3 bowl options in play for Iowa weren’t going to be very warm. Of the 3 we did get the coldest one. Just saying with all the complaining it didn’t matter which one of the bowls we got people were going to find something to bitch about.

BC has actually opened up their offense in the 2nd half of the season. They are a completely different team now versus September. Everyone is shocked about the turnaround. We can only guess that Addazio is no longer involved in the offense. It was worse than boring if that’s possible to watch Addazio call the plays.

Dr. Tom was a terrific coach at BC. I knew him well when he was here. It would be cool to have him flip the coin.

Welcome to the board! Agreed, Dr. Tom or bust for the coin flip.

I look forward to two teams who like to smash each other in the face going toe-to-toe, but I hope we see some of the fireworks that we showed in the OSU game and you mentioned in the 2nd half of your season.

Are we still bitching about this scenario? Wasn’t sure. Just asking.

This is the first bowl since, I think, the Outback Bowl against South Carolina where Iowa will be favored to win. It's also the first game since the Orange Bowl in which Iowa is ranked higher than its opponent. Iowa won both of those games. FWIW, the only ranking I've seen is the Sports Illustrated rankings of all the bowl teams. Iowa was ranked #51 and Boston College was #60-something. Also, Boston College recruiting rankings are pretty similar to Iowa's, maybe a little worse. So Iowa actually has a really good shot at winning this game.

That's why I was pulling for the Pinstripe against Boston College after the UW game. Iowa needs a bowl win more than they need an impressive bowl win. So beat up an even-to-weaker opponent to get back on the right track. Maybe this will be Iowa's 2001 Alamo Bowl win over Texas Tech and a new run of dominance will begin! Okay, I'm joking. But still, a bowl win could really help build some confidence going into next season and it sure as hell would make all of us feel better.

Forecast for next Wednesday:

28 in NYC
30 in Nashville
17 in DM
72 in San Diego

Iowa took one for the team (B1G) this year.

Obviously some of you poors have never been to NYC during the holidays. Besides my disdain for the smell of burning chestnuts it might be my favorite time to visit.

Packer fans must be superhuman to sit for three hours at a FB game.

And smell of trash, smoke, feces, and old food. Not to mention congestion, travel, etc. I dont think any one has a problem sitting thru a cold weather game, its the fact that most would rather get away from 30 degree weather to 60-80 degree weather if they're paying that much money. Not to mention its not going to be christmas anymore by the time iowa plays. Pretty easy to understand with half a brain genius.

Did I say Christmas, dipshit? Never been there I take it, none of that is true. Its not Chicago. Save up, bitch. You might learn something about Manhattan.
