“What was controversial about that game?” Gophers coach P.J. Fleck said at Big Ten Media Days in July, playfully batting down a question about the disputed finish. “It was an illegal fair-catch signal.”

Here are some more of Fleck's comments-

Fleck acknowledged that he savored last year’s breakthrough — “We had a couple of cigars, some good bourbon, some good Pappy [Van Winkle]”

This is like OJ saying, “Clearly, the glove doesn’t fit.”

The rule should NOT apply to bouncing balls, because you cannot fair catch a bouncing ball. The moment the ball bounces (which everyone can see) there is no fair catch protection and thus no way to deceive defenders into "freezing". I was stunned to learn that invalid signals extends to bouncing balls, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Calling it on replay review is even more bizarre and probably the only time that has ever happened for that penalty. It has to be one of the rarest penalty calls in college and NFL history. Is Tim Odey still an official? I hope the league looked into that guy hard, he did something similar to Iowa the year before with some phantom toe out of bounds on an interception return. Blew the whistle and killed the play for absolutely no ****ing reason.

If Iowa had a QB worthy of the title, they would have won that game even after the ludicrous review took the TD away. All Iowa needed was one decent pass completion to be in good FG range for a winning kick. But thanks to KF and BF, there was no such QB on the field.
Still don’t understand not putting Copper in the wildcat for that possession.

I don't know how anyone after seeing pre-season qb video ever expected a playoff appearance. Maybe KF doesn't know how to size QB shoulder pads. No reasonable explanation

My big problem with the invalid fair catch call is that punt returners do what Cooper did all the time and it doesn’t get called. I don’t remember if it was the same day or the following week where a return man from North Carolina did the exact same arm motion, caught the ball off a bounce, and returned it eleven yards. No one said a word about it. None of the players, no one in the booth, no one on the opposite sideline. The teams trotted out for the next series and that was it.

Pretty much the same scenario at Kinnick last year. Only the replay idiot that wanted his 10 minutes of Fame to Fvck it up. Then, and only then, Fleck decided it was the “right” call.

The zebras on the field knew exactly what Cooper was doing and were cool with it but the chump monitoring calls on the field and doing nothing all day decided to make a name for himself.

Anyone know if the BIG replaced that idiot?
