Gordman's closing up stores. Same with JCPenney.

So online sales haven't been driving brick and mortar stores out of business for nearly a decade? It's called technology and buyer preference. What do you think has driven the growth of Amazon and the like?

And ultimately if you insist on blaming an administration, then this transition started and grew exponentially during obama reign, not just the last two months. Seriously.

Well no shit. This is kind of the hidden purpose behind my thread. To point how how stupid it is for Trump to take credit for stuff that has already happened.

I just want to take this opportunity to say I love Amazon. I've been so impressed with what they offer as a customer.

I don't think they're actually profitable though, so there's that.

There are subsidies for that ;)

They definitely had profits the last couple of years. I believe they've been profitable for the last several.

Good! I was in a classroom last week and a professor said they weren't profitable yet. That's what I get for taking an academic's word for it and not looking it up.

The crazy thing about Amazon is their web services division.

Your company can basically have their entire IT structure run through their cloud. The scale as you grow, and can give you environments to develop, deploy, and archive your systems.

I was looking at their web services offerings and it is crazy.

They will make computer hardware obsolete for many businesses.

That part of their business is growing like a weed on steroids.

Amazon web services, on its own, would be the 6th largest public company in the U.S.; according to one valuation.

Crazy where tech is going. Once AI takes off I can see a day where manual labor will be the only jobs left.

Why have accountants, programmers, engineers, etc. when a machine can chug through billions of scenarios in a few minutes.

Until it crashes like last week, then you have nothing. Also, the cloud is not secure enough.

Downtime can happen anywhere. Amazon was down a lot less than places that suffer lightning strikes or major fires. I would bet on amazons security over a small privately owned company. With internal IT department.

It's the future no stopping it. The savings of hardware and support staff will make it a no brainer. One some of the big ERP packages go that route it will be a tidal wave.

JCP has been in trouble for awhile. I work with their corporate operations team quite a bit and they were jumping ship 2 years ago. Saw a lot of turnover in 2016. They started to cut back on service and repairs on the brick and mortar.
