Grapple On The Gridiron Ticket Sales

Update:

Ticket office tells me: We still have tickets together in section in 220,221 that you can purchase. General admission will not go on sale until we are sold out of the reserved seating.

I understand in general, but if only singles remain, people won't want to buy them.

I tried to buy 5 together and it wouldn't allow it.

This is ridiculous.

I think "stagnant" is a fair term if 26k were sold within the first 48 hours, and since then totals sales have hardly budged. It's not too surprising to me that the web site isn't very easy to use, as the vast majority of commercial web sites are pretty poorly designed and maintained, but the idea that general admission tickets won't be available until all reserved seats are sold seems like a bad one, because people who want to buy tickets in groups have nothing available to purchase.
This is correct.

I totally get it that online is much easier for some people.. the problem is online is online and its very hard to navigate and get what you want. Systems don't always mesh with what ticket offices use and what the online system likes so it's tough to get any super accurate when dealing with a computer..

I agree.. I just want everyone to be able to get tickets when they want them and where they want them and I encourage everyone to bite the bullet and call the ticket office. They would be the most knowledgeable about what is available and help work through issues that the good old computers just can't do.

Yeah, it is just hard to tell the actual public that on a wrestling-specific forum.

Keep buying tickets people! Alternatively, someone should just buy all the remaining Reserved seats, that way it opens up GA for everyone else!

I love the idea ... I will be attending the football game at night but won't be taking in the match beforehand ... Makes for too long of a day ... I am guessing attendance will be in the 32,000 range ...

Slam a few 5 hour energies

Any chance this is televised? If already announced, sorry. Just did not catch it.

More like "Rusty's Grand Dad"

Which one??

Looks like they just opened sections 106 and 126 to the public now. I am guessing that means that the GA option wont be available?

This is going to be a pretty special day...don't miss out, RD.;)

Interesting. Maybe all phone requests have been wanting actual seats?

Whatever it is, hopefully it won't be the ticket office standing in the way of max attendance. I haven't put as much thought in to it as the wrestling staff, but it seems that people might have liked the choice of reserved seats in 106/126 in the lower (20-40) section than the 70th row in 125. If it was going to be all reserved it should have just been open as such. Seems like maybe someone is trying to "force" the "best" seats, in their opinion, on purchasers.

Per Chad Leistikow (DM Register): BTN2GO will air Iowa-Oklahoma State live on Nov 14th. Regular BTN will air the bout, tape delayed, on Nov 15th at 6pm.

I wonder if ticket sales will depend on where they place the mat or if it is already predetermined. If they are going to continue to sell reserved seats in the original GA sections makes me think they may move it closer to midfield which isn't really fair to the ppl who bought early thinking it was going to be near the south endzone.

My understanding is no. The mat is going where it will go, no matter how many come in. That was part of the reason for the "reserved" seating. They will not move it. Surely they care MUCH more about the 6k season tickets, their 6k extras and the first 10,000 that get in to Carver if need be.

I like it and I don't. If I wasn't going I'd want it live....but I also want everyone who would watch it on an app to go watch it live. I hate "blackouts", but this one would be ok by me.

Disagree with the last sentence. This is an historic event for Iowa wrestling and college wrestling in general. A sport that desperately needs eyeballs in any way it can get them. I want as many people to witness this in whatever way they can. BTN2GO is pretty limited. I wish that one of the ESPNs, where is the Ocho when we need it, would pick this up at least on a tape delayed basis. Let the world know that Iowa City is the home of college wrestling. If we do this again, maybe we can figure out a way to hold it every sports network is showing college football.

Truth. You've convinced me.

It's been made pretty clear that the mat is staying in the south end zone. I haven't seen anything to the contrary. The additional fans that fill the stands heading toward the north end of Kinnick will still have a great time -- lots of fans will be watching on the big screen, anyway. The folks in the northern stands won't likely be diehard wrestling fans, in any case. They'll just be excited to be there and witness it.

So here we are on October 20 and it was about 70 degrees in central Iowa today. As we know, Iowa weather can change on a dime, but so far, so good! IMO, a beautiful day could add a few more thousand to the attendance.

We are less than 30 days away. We need to figure out who is doing pbp and we also need a breakdown and analysis for each weight...

Guessing Vallholl will be in IC. Would be happy to do PBP if we were't going to be in row 5.

We seem to be missing the "big question". How marketable is wrestling, really? I don't dispute that Iowa fans and fans in Iowa are the best in the country, but do we really know how big that universe is? Yes, we sell out the state tournament every year, lead the nation in college dual meet attendance almost every year and get good attendance at things like AGON and the Division III Championships, but what metric do we have that indicates that there are 40,000+ potential ticket buyers in Iowa and surrounding markets? Do we have any data that tells us that tailgaiting football fans are a potentially strong crossover market? This event will tell us a lot about how marketable wrestling can be.

.
I've never been to a college wrestling meet. I will be there. So will my wife and kids and a handful of others that have never been and likely never will go again to an Iowa wrestling meet.

I've talked to quite a few others that have never been either that will be there on 11/14.

If it was an every year thing? Nope. . Combined with a rivalry game that is due for an ass whoopin of revenge and a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of this day was just too much to pass up.

I don't know what that says about marketing.

I liken it to this. I hate soccer. All my friends hate that communist ****ing sport too.....but during the world cup? I watch every USA match.

We are Iowans and we will support Iowa. Hell, if ISU were trying this, I might even head down there.... :)

My next question is this: Will PSU or even ISU try to break Iowa's attendance record by trying the same thing only making it during an Iowa dual? Bastards

I presume that you, and the other posters agreeing with you, have been laughing at the "records" all along then...only a measly 15k in Carver? Should have been the absolute minimum.

For f**** sake people, average attendance for the best program in the country is only, what, 8k? The highest in Carver last year was 12k?

I think 25k is already outstanding. Also, as I posted before, if this was in a 30k seat "arena", y'all would be ecstatic....but because there is that larger number, 70k, just looming out there you can't get past it.

As others have pointed out, the "diehards" already bought season tickets + "20" extras, so I think we can safely say the "wrestling fans", in general, have already bought their tickets. That leaves the non-wrestling or casual fans to pick up 14k more to hit your "required" benchmark. Maybe 14k doesn't seem like a lot, until you realize that would have been the second highest attendance of ALL college wrestling meets last year. And it would be being done with the casual/non-wrestling fans.

Come on fellas, it isn't like Carver was simply turning away people by the thousands because it wasn't big enough.
As usual, another thread that you pollute just because you like to argue. You need a hobby or a wife.

I swear, you'd argue if I hung you with a new rope.

That's the spirit! This is what we need from the Iowa faithful, right here. I think this kind of thing is going to happen among lots of Iowa-fan families.

Appears the number is now around 29,000, and the Minnesota game has single tickets only available, so getting reasonably close to a sell out for Iowa's first Home November Night Game. Weather permitting, and the Hawks wrestle and play football well, could be one hell of a nice day.

Will be an interesting day regardless, how "nice" it is will probably be determined by the outcomes of the contests! :D
