Grapple On The Gridiron Ticket Sales

I noticed ISU hasn't set a time for the Ok State football game. I assume if it is a night game the Poke fans coming to Iowa for the weekend will double dip.

Actually, for those Poke fans hard core enough to travel to Ames for a football game, I bet it would be a huge kick to stop by Kinnick earlier in the day and see a historic wrestling meet. I think the novelty of the Grapple on the Gridiron would attract a good number of the Okie State football fans if the timing were right.

How many people do really think are going to go to Ames to watch the Clones get hammered by OSU? Not many. You don't travel nine hours to watch your team play garbage teams.

I'm sure they will have the football game start simultaneously as the wrestling meet. It means less Okie state fans in Ames Cheering on the Pokes

yeah, like when optimism is at an all time high for the season?

(Sorry, Mike, I had to do that)

Yeah, Pollard won't do anything that might help Iowa in anyway.

I'd bet there are more fans in Kinnick to watch wrestling than there are in Jack Trice for the football game.
Now that is good stuff there, Our wrestling team out draws Their football team.

I think we should use the board as a panel for choosing the Coeds for ticket sales. Please submit photos! Wendy is in charge of the shirtless wrestlers candidates.

Like Jerry Maguire said, "Who's coming with me?" .

Really thinking about buying tix tomorrow so I won't have to stand in line in 2 weeks. I'd get it at CHA right?

Correct. Not sure if the ticket office will be open, though. Hawk Central says their hours are Monday through Friday. I wonder if they open on football Saturdays, though. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

Good news is they are currently predicting temperatures around mid 50's for that weekend. Won't have a good feel on the rain factor until at least Tuesday/Wednesday that week though.

Go Hawks

Yep, but you make a good point about the value of forecasts at this early stage. Not much. But I'll take a 2-week forecast in the 50's over one in the 30's any day!

So things are shaping up pretty well for a 40k crowd on 11/14/15. The football team continues to roll and the forecast is looking decent. If we win at Indiana and come into the Minnesota game at 9-0, interest in the football team will be at a high point, drawing in more fans. If that happens and the weather holds, I'll be surprised if we don't surpass 40k.

I don't know if you mean "residual" fans that will just happen or want to be in the Iowa City area for the atmosphere, but the football game is now sold out, so that situation is a done deal. I would imagine there are plenty like myself that will attend both events, but I presume there are also plenty that will attend the wrestling meet and head home to watch the game that night. I believe it's at plus 30K right now, so 40K on a nice November day certainly isn't out of the question.

I wasn't aware that the MN game had sold out yet, but that's great news -- all the more folks hanging out near Kinnick on the 14th. Liking our chances of breaking 40k.

A little off topic but does anyone know when the Iowa vs MN meet is? Iowa site under schedules says its Fri 1/29 but under buy tix for the home meets which go on sale tmrw am it is listed as Sat 1/30.

Pretty sure it was originally Saturday, but was changed to Friday.

I thought everything after 25K was GA. But when I go to hawkeye sports everything is a ticketed seat. Was I wrong on the GA thing? Meeting people and was going to have us just buy tix separately. May just buy seats myself and have them meet me outside of Kinnick.

I'm also confused about what GA is. Student tickets are GA, but I've heard nothing of the location other than a limited number of those seats will be on the field.

If you see earlier posts I believe you will see that they expanded the Reserve status. It started as ending st 124, then 125, who knows now.

It was moved and I remember that this happened. The meet was on Saturday (when I could attend) and got moved to a Friday (when I cannot attend).

With FB sold out, it should be nothing for 5k in walk ups. Easily.

If they are marketing outside the stadium and at as many tailgates lots as they can....who knows. Maybe 7-9k

Particularly with 50 degree weather.

There won't be that many people out tailgating 10 hours before the football game.

How many are you talking about? Considering that 70,000 fans are attending the football game, and considering that a lot of fans start tailgating early in the morning regardless of when the game starts, I think it's safe to say that there will be a whole lot of people -- probably pushing 20,000 or so, I'd guess -- tailgating 10 hours before the football game (i.e., 9:00 a.m.) -- not that people need to be tailgating at 9:00 a.m. in order to head over and check out a wrestling meet at 11:00.

Does anyone have a feel for how close to the dual date the University plans on waiting to make the call to keep this in Kinnick vs moving to Carver? Or what forecasted % chance of rain they are willing to roll with? I mean, it can't be safe to wrestle on a mat with ANY rain can it? So if it gets to Friday and the forecast is, say, 30% chance of rain, then what?
