Grapple On The Gridiron Ticket Sales

Where can I buy tickets online at? Hawkeyesports doesn't have them listed under wrestling and I cant find them

I've talked with a couple of people who are having difficulty buying tickets online. May I suggest that you call the ticket office?

That's weird -- when I click it, I get a button to click for Iowa-Okie State wrestling tickets.

Try just cutting and pasting the link into your web browser. Alternatively, you could try going to Hawkeyesports.com, click "Buy Tickets" in the upper right, then click "Iowa Wrestling Tickets". That will take you to the same screen.

If that still doesn't work, I'd do what GG says and just call the Iowa ticket office.

I also don't see anywhere to buy tickets. Perhaps if you've created an account you see a different set of choices?
I've never been to a college wrestling meet. I will be there. So will my wife and kids and a handful of others that have never been and likely never will go again to an Iowa wrestling meet.

I've talked to quite a few others that have never been either that will be there on 11/14.

If it was an every year thing? Nope. . Combined with a rivalry game that is due for an ass whoopin of revenge and a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of this day was just too much to pass up.

I don't know what that says about marketing.

I liken it to this. I hate soccer. All my friends hate that communist ****ing sport too.....but during the world cup? I watch every USA match.

We are Iowans and we will support Iowa. Hell, if ISU were trying this, I might even head down there.... :)

My next question is this: Will PSU or even ISU try to break Iowa's attendance record by trying the same thing only making it during an Iowa dual? Bastards
This is awesome. But what if you discover that you really enjoy wrestling?

Wouldn't be surprised if tOSU and Penn State try it - massive tailgating scenes and people who make weekends out of home game days. Even if I wasn't a wrestling fan, it would be a fun thing to do in advance of a late football game. What else is there to do? Jog? Have brunch?

I hope they do, they would likely get much more national publicity than Iowa would. I thought I read something on one of the forums that said that PSU likely would never be allowed to do something like this. I forget the reasoning. Something to do with the field or something happening pregame, but I may be imagining that.

Oh, that's a good point. They have natural grass - one of the few holdouts in the colder climes. And it's a perfect surface. They'd have to go to great lengths not to tear it up. I see Kinnick has field turf.

It's very cool what you're doing. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

I hope that PSU and tOSU are able to do something like this at some point. Despite it being an event that is probably only realistic every 5-10 years, it would be fun to see what others do to up the ante each time. It could become a real arms race, and would only benefit us fans.

Make sure you aren't looking at in the "mobile" version. The Okie State meet showed for me when I took it out of mobile and went to "full site" mode. Hope that helps.

You can bet Minnesota will never do it against Iowa because we would take down their goal post's again.

I would think maybe Arz State in a few years just might try this where weather should not be a problem.
With the class they recuited should be a good team. Not sure how much of a following they have.

Too bad they aren't any good yet. They could plan an ASU vs. Iowa meet on Jan 11, 2016 that would sell great. We could catch the meet before our football team takes the field for the College Football Championship Game. ;)

Oh well, maybe they can plan for it in a few years when they get the Championship Game back.

I'd think about going out for that one. Could you imagine watching a meet in Sun Devil Stadium on a beautiful November night? That would be a blast. Probably no need to heat the mats. . . .

Oh hell yea. Just getting to the point where we are about to make our money weather wise...Getting down into the 70/80s. Downright cold when I leave for work at 0500...in the 50s.

You bet ya WWDMH have lots of snow bird people out there so would have cheap lodging.:)

Ticket sales have nearly doubled the previous record. Would be really cool to triple it with ~48k!

Three quick observations:
1) Did this Board sell 1000 tickets in a matter of hours?
2) Are we looking at a "snowball effect" in which ticket sales pick up speed?
3) Does the somewhat mild weather outlook help ticket sales?

I am very curious how many walk up sales there will be on 11-14.

I would hope the admin has plans for some pretty, young gals to go around to tailgate parties all morning in promoting and selling as many tickets as they can. If not, that would be a huge missed opportunity.

Put people on golf carts and run them all over IC

I would think it would be a fair assumption to say at least 5k+ with the football game following. My prediction would be 40-45k.

I do think there is a majority of the football crowd that is still unaware (or have forgotten) that there is a wrestling meet that day. At that point, the football team will likely be undefeated. And when they learn/relearn that the Hawks are going to smash a record, many will want to be part of this. I predict 44000. And that record outlives all of us.

What about a 30 second promotional video to be shown on the Kinnick big board during the Maryland game? It's probably too late if they haven't already thought of this.

They already have a spot on BTN...I'm sure at the very least, they will run the ad that is being shown on BTN during the game (a couple times). This is a really exciting event.

Whether they use cute coeds or Gary Barta decked out in body paint standing a top a golf cart with a megaphone, they ought to put all hands on deck to bounce from tailgate to tailgate getting people to head into the stadium for the match (be a part of history, etc). I think the sheer number of people impulsively heading toward the stadium "for the spectacle of it" would draw quite a few wrestling first-timers to be part of the magic. In all seriousness, this kind of unorthodox athletic promotion ought to be a nice feather in GB's cap, regardless.

Go HAWKS!

My vote is for the coeds!
