This team is missing Joe T's toughness and CJ Frederick's shooting. Two big portal losses.
While it couldn’t be worse , even these two wouldn’t save this team. Joe could defend but too inconsistent on offense, and Fredrick is apparently made of glass. Fran can’t recruit guards period.,This team is missing Joe T's toughness and CJ Frederick's shooting. Two big portal losses.
Absolutely not to the latter. This team is missing Joe T's toughness and CJ Frederick's shooting. Two big portal losses.
It's truly rough. They don't excell at anything. This team is missing Joe T's toughness and CJ Frederick's shooting. Two big portal losses.
Yep we’re screwed .I posted this in another thread and I'll paste it into this one. Our guard court is really, really, really - and I mean really - bad...
Ladies and Gentlemen; your Iowa backcourt...
PG - Ulis: 0-4 including 0-2 from 3pt land, 1 assist in 18 mins of play
PG - Bowen: 0-4 including 0-2 from 3pt land, 0 assists
SG - Perkins: 1-6 including the meaningless 3-ball at the end, 2 assists in 21 mins of play
SG - Sandfort: 0-9 including 0-3 from 3pt land, 0 assists, 2 turnovers, in 9 mins - WELL DONE!!!
This is not good boys. Even though I call out Bowen, we need more of him and Dix, less of the rest of the above...
P.S. To the OP, I don't think Joe T or CJF is the answer. I think it goes deeper than that...
There are literally dozens of mid major teams that have better guards than Fran has ever had at Iowa.......and yet he is unable to get any. It's amazing how bad our guards are. There are hundreds of good guards in college basketball.
^^^Not even an exaggeration. There are literally dozens of mid major teams that have better guards than Fran has ever had at Iowa.

Hard to wrap your head around stats like that. I mean Neb had a good game plan and played great D but ...yowza... That's just a hapless backcourt.I posted this in another thread and I'll paste it into this one. Our guard court is really, really, really - and I mean really - bad...

I'd put Bowen at the 1, Dix at 2 and let Tony sit for awhile. No clue what he has going on but his multiple back cut layups allowed tonight and net nothing on offense doesn't award him any minutes. Heck I was asking for Kingsbury earlier just to attempt something that may work.I have zero, and I mean zero, confidence in Ulis. He's just too unstable out there. I can see where Bowen isn't quite ready but how about Perkins sliding to the 1 spot and Dix starting at the 2 spot???

I wouldn't mind that. Ulis looks like, well, the younger brother of a good college player.I have zero, and I mean zero, confidence in Ulis. He's just too unstable out there. I can see where Bowen isn't quite ready but how about Perkins sliding to the 1 spot and Dix starting at the 2 spot???

Agreed. Ulis is a literal offense killer. He is no scoring threat and overdribbles 95% of the time.I have zero, and I mean zero, confidence in Ulis. He's just too unstable out there. He has to still be injured. Only thing I can figure with the way he's playing. Not aggressive and just looks sluggish.Perkins played one of the worst games I’ve ever seen. Defense was especially offensive.
And it's hurting us immensely. He has to still be injured. Only thing I can figure with the way he's playing. Not aggressive and just looks sluggish.
Joe T last year was a solid player and would absolutely help this team as a 4 year player. Against NCAA teams last year he was 2nd or 3rd in +/- on the team.Joe T sucked.
I agree. Can Kingsbury be worse than Perkins and Sandfort? Fran will be telling us in March that guys are lighting it up in practice and need to keep shooting. Iowa is so inferior athletically all over the floor that 3 point shooting is less of a strategy and more of a default. Other than Kris there isn't anyone capable of creating their own shot.I'd put Bowen at the 1, Dix at 2 and let Tony sit for awhile. Hurt has nothing to do with all the defensive lapses he had and didn’t even try.He has to still be injured. Only thing I can figure with the way he's playing. Not aggressive and just looks sluggish.
And Kris gets pushed off the direction he wants to go, he bails on his drive and gives up the rock. Only to see PMac flat line a three pointer off the front of the rim or dribble drive to the top of the lane, jump up in the air then throw it either at the basket with a drive by shot or to a player cutting to the basket that’s deflected and the other team creates a turnover. This team has no identity. Football sucked, now bball with the two worst losses in a long time.I agree. Can Kingsbury be worse than Perkins and Sandfort? Nimmers is red shirting. Nebraska definitely double teamed Rebraca and he didn't do a great job passing out of them. When he did, the guards missed open shots.Where is Amarion Nimmers? I don't ever see him dress out. I am not implying he is going to fix this mess but the dude is super athletic and per Fran, his stock rose towards the end of his high school season. Ulis is another Fran guard that can't score. Teams have figured out to get up on Iowa's ballhandlers, smother Rebraca and let others jack 3's. Nebraska shot out of their minds but so did EIU. When you play lazy defense it lets the other team impose their will and get whatever they want.

JoeT was the best point guard on the team AINEC.Joe T sucked.
Too many on this board equate offense to being a good basketball player.JoeT was the best point guard on the team AINEC.
Neither Ulis nor Bowen is an upgrade offensively and Joe was a beast defensively. I was hoping that one of them could fill the void but they haven't. Guard play is atrocious this year.Too many on this board equate offense to being a good basketball player.
Are we taking about the same Joe T who had an EFg% of 45? That’s pretty much what we have right now. Iowa needs real guards, not one way players like we have/had.Joe T on offense is better than anyhting at guard now
He was really good at falling down.Too many on this board equate offense to being a good basketball player.
I believe he did, but can't say for sure.Crazy thing is...and correct me if I'm wrong...didn't he have stud guard play at Sienna?
But he played defense and passed the ball well. That's something Ulis and Perkins are not doing well at all.Are we taking about the same Joe T who had an EFg% of 45? That’s pretty much what we have right now. Iowa needs real guards, not one way players like we have/had.
