Hall vs Marinelli

I was told Zachary doesn't cut any weight either. Anyone know for sure?

I think he cuts some but he quit the team last season because he got tired of cutting to 138. I have no idea what he cuts if any at 145 but im guessing he does since kids grow.

I know if you ever watched him return a punt, there is some serious athlete quickness in him that 98% wrestlers don't have. I really would like to roll the dice with this kid and see what his potential is.

HUDL had him at 150, for whatever that is worth. I'm guessing he is a very lean/low fat kid naturally so not likely a lot to cut.

Someone posted that he projects at 157 in college. Sounds fairly accurate if he weighs 150 now. Maybe a redshirt year at 149 and then 157.

I agree with the 157 as well. If he doesn't like cutting too much then let him keep hitting the weights and be even quicker as a 157 than he would be at 149. Lets keep his speed and see what Rutt can do with him. IMO Grothus quickness is being exploited by these quicker 141s. At 149 it wasn't as noticeable and he was more the norm. I kind of feel like Brook and Meyer are cutting a bit much. Id like them to be strong and take that quickness up to 184/197. Might do them good. But honestly I have no clue. Im a huge Brooks fan and I am at a loss on what I just saw Monday night.

Overall I think recruiting needs to build up kids and let quickness move up and beat the slower guys versus cut them down and look lethargic. Im all for Kemerer at 157 and letting Sorenson finish out 149 career. I think Happel may not have to worry about Zachary at 149. But then if Zachary isn't 149 then why come to iowa if he sits behind Kem for 3 years and could start at ISU/UNI sooner.?

I will be very happy if Zachary ends up a Hawk. He would fit in quite nicely at 149/157 opposite of Kemerer. I think his ceiling is extremely high. IMO Happel slots in at 141.

I see size being an issue here. Hall is a true 170 while Marinelli is at true 160. When u have two great wrestlers going at it and one is bigger then the other it doesn't always go well for the smaller guy. Look what happened when Lee went up in weight against Fix. Same reason Happel/Zachary would be a bad match up for Happel. Kid walks around at 146, he is a true 138 pounder while Zachary is a true 145 pounder.

Hall makes 163 all the time. I think he'll be a 165 in college. His ultimate aspiration is wrestling in the olympics. The weight class is 165.5 and I don't see him ever big enough for 189. I believe he is also a year older so he may be done growing.

Hall is quick and nimble, where Alex is just Bull strong, I'm going with Alex 5-3 (see what I did there). And I'm going to say that Alex has the better college career, but he'll go at 165, where Hall will probably go at 174. But, Hall is just an outstanding wrestler and he'll do great things, I'm just glad they scheduled it. Just got done watching the Red vs. Lee match, that stadium was nuts. Red stalled in the first, but Lee stalled in the third, Red wins, undefeated career. Indiana known for it's wrestling instead of B-ball, who would have thought....

That was a great match. Too bad Red didn't go to Iowa instead of Neb.

He has been making165 but not all the time. He was doing it for worlds when he has 24 hours to recover and only had to make weight a couple of times. I don't see him doing that during a season with 1 hour recovery and multiple day weigh ins at a tournament. 174 for college and then down to 165 for international. Similar to Ramos, he would not have been able to make 125 consistently in college.

Sorensen has been flat this year IMO. He seems to be dragging some and fading in matches. It might be good to move him to 157 and have Kemerer at 149. Happel is 141 IMO. Zachary could go 157 after Sorensen then. In the end either way I think we can easily target Zachary opposite Kemerer when Sorensen is gone.

I think you're exactly right. Sorensen is big and strong, why have a mini-Sorensen at 149 next year. I'm not saying he could beat Nolf or Imar [assuming they stay at 157] but he'd be more than physical enough for the task.

IMar's a pretty big dude at 57. I'd guess he very well might move up once Dieringer is done. Probably wouldn't mind avoiding Nolf, either. No idea of Nolf's plans, but his build is very similar to Taylor's from what I can tell, and he seems to have a plenty big frame to move up, as well. Would be cool if both guys moved up and cleared things out a little for Brandon at 57. I'm sure lineups will have something to do with that, primarily where PSU is concerned.

I heard Hall say he doesn't cut any weight at all to make 170.

He'd probably be a 149 pounder in Stillwater.

Not a bad guess on Imar WWDM. He wrestled 160 as a senior in HS. He looks like he cuts a lot of weight. He's got the frame to put on some bulk and be a big, strong athletic 165lber.

Here is Hall's 6th state championship. At 170, but it looks like he is giving up 10-15 pounds. I think Hall is a lot smaller than his weight class.

Halls a lot stronger and stockier then I remembered. He going to be real tough to score on unless he struggles with a gas tank in college which I doubt he will.

Really havn't seen any Apple Valley wrestlers really tear it up in Div 1 but guess there is always a first.

That is true but I don't see anyway Hall doesn't do well at the next level.

They've pry had 50 kids go d1 In The last 10-15 years and they have 2 d1 AA's...Charlie Falck and Chad Erickson.

Since he chose Penn St. I now hope his name rings synonimous with Ki-Jana Carter or Blair Thomas. Only for Hall it would be the transition from High School to college. Not likely, but is there ever a sure thing? (If there is he is probably it).

I agree Hall is good and will do good in college even if he is from the Apple. Hated to see him go to Puke state.

As much as I like Marinelli, I suggest anyone predicting him to win go to Flo and watch the Hall v. Nolf match. It is virtually impossible to finish a takedown on Hall. I hope I am wrong, but until Marinelli beats him, I have to go with Hall.

Don't forget Curtis Ennis and Cortney Brown.

I'm not predicting it as much as it is a hunch I have. If I had to bet my house on it yeah, Hall is the safer bet. But Marinelli is a different sort of animal than Hall has wrestled and the hunch is based on Marinelli being able to tire him down a bit and finish some third period shots. That is my hope at least.
