* Men's basketball on a roll
* Women's basketball on a roll
* Men's baseball on a roll (ranked in top 25!)

* Wrestling still one of nation's best
* Volleyball on the upswing with its new coach
* Football facilities being called the best "football only" in the B1G
* Iowa just hosted the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships and the facility got excellent reviews by swimmers from across the country.

It "appears" things overall in the Iowa Athletic Dept have gotten better under Barta's watch.

What say you? Agree? Or does it all come down to football?

Who lasts longer? KF or Barta or will they both be leaving at the same time?

I think Gary's seat is fine. Football team better look better this year though.

Yep, if you suck at football, your athletic director is at least partially to blame and should be fired.

The reason why this has become more of a norm is because people are too obsessed (i.e. think they know how things should work) with the way things operate at the pro level. GMs and others in higher-up positions get fired because of poor performance in pro sports. But ADs serve a much different purpose with a broader range of responsibilities. Because of the money and the interest in the sport of football, though, the general public puts way too much stock into the success of its football program, but then that's to be expected of the "general public" nowadays.

Unfortunately this is the truth. Unless you're the elite of the elite in basketball like Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Syracuse.

Want to become a Golden God as an AD? Put out a top football program and you're untouchable.

Obviously, football is the cash cow for the University
of Iowa. When attendance takes a dramatic tumble
it will get the attention of Gary Barta. All of the other
Hawkeye sports are window dressing.

Bob B. handpicked Gary B. to follow him at Iowa. Bob did not want a lot of competition messing up his legacy. Barta has made a lot of bad moves. Barta and Ferentz are tied at the hip. When one goes the other goes as well. Barta is a never was and Ferentz is a has been. Fire them before the completely ruin the Iowa sports program.

Seat still hot because of the Field Hockey mess and insider told me it will be war!

LOL- it won't and it is only going to get worse. Our recruiting was never great but has been horrible and getting worse.

Just leave basketball alone and I don't care how Barta is cooked.

Barta is a public administrator in charge of athletics. I'd love to have a former coach as AD, like Alverez or Gable. A true passion for winning, not just balancing the budget.
