Have we discussed Coach Prime going to Colorado?

Who knows if it works.

I am not going to put a dollar betting against him.

None of these kids were alove when he was still a force in the NFL or MLB. Few might have been sitting diapers when he came back with the Ravens in the early 2000s. I do believe he still has credibility as being him....but he is history and crappy quality video on YouTube to these guys (Never will understand why games I watched look 20+ years ago have no good quality video out there...wasn't that bad live...I think)

Right now he is a factor in recruiting. No idea how well he coaches other than his lower level team moved from a not good team to great team under him.

I think it was a good gamble for Colorado. Why not go for it...what did the have to lose?

He's got something that very, very few other P5 head coaches have. Actually, none have. He's cool, he's hip to young people and he's an all-time great player. I mean, what's stopping him from having a #1 class next season? Who wouldn't want to play for him? All he's ever done is kick ass. In everything.

Something people overlooked with him as a player was his work ethic. It’s easy to see his raw talent and assume he got by on that. He would out work everyone in practice every day. First one there, last one to leave. I’m guessing that extends to his coaching.

Weird I thought he was into coaching to improve the programs at HBCU's and not so much to make a career out of coaching.

That said it's obviously his right if he wants to make a career out of coaching, I've got no problem with that. But his words while at Jackson State seemed to indicate that he was trying to help improve HBCU's.

Regardless I do think with his personality and energy he can be a great recruiter.

How so? The Buffs gonna start playing defense?
You know what you call a PAC 12 team that has a 30 point / game defensive scoring average?
The best defensive team in the conference.

I'll own it if I am wrong. But I think Sanders is going to create a juggernaut

Why do you keep putting a 12 there?
Are you on meds ?

The playoff is going to 12 teams. When it does the PAC 12 and Big 12 will get a team in.

Doesn’t matter if the PAC 12 and Big 12 have 12 teams in Their conference or 9. They are not changing the name and they will get teams in the playoff.

Unless Iowa fans are going to print sweatshirts that say “2024 National Champions for department Revenue” and people masturbate to that I would rather be in the PAC 12 / Big 12 and have a realistic shit of getting into the playoff.

Frankly I don’t see Iowa having a shot with USC UCLA Michigan and Ohio St.

And the dirt bag West is going away, no more scheduling luck will avoid all the big dogs.

IDK about a juggernaught but I think the guy can recruit based on his personality. The question is if he is going to be able to do it without using the "do it for HBCU" line on recruits. I am thinking he can.

But given that they were 1-11 pretty much the only directly that program can go is up.

It can get worse. See Baylor.

RUN!

The schedule this season is brutal, he could make major strides and still only get 3 or 4 wins. Hopefully the fairweather folks jumping on board have a bit of patience (spoiler alert, they won't). Go Buffs.

42 (and counting) is a heck of a lot of players to replace. Depth could be quite the issue for him this next year.
Nevertheless, that’s his plan. It’s the vision he pitched to Colorado when they hired him - his 40/40/20 plan. He wants his roster to be comprised of 40% graduate transfers, 40% undergraduate transfers, and 20% high school signees.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how well he can utilize the portal to build an entire team. FSU showed proof of concept as most of our team's main leaders came from the portal... But Prime is essentially trying to build an entire team off the back of the portal that is getting harder to recruit from and doesn't have the numbers that were there due to covid seasons having far more players in college football now. FSU got lucky in that regard. I think he'll get a pretty decent haul this year, but if they don't win significantly more games, will he be able to pull portal players in the future.

Prime is too much about Prime to really get to the top in coaching. Somewhere/sometime, you have to have at least a touch of humility to understand you don't know everything and you have to build the culture up with people that know more than you. Deion can't do that.

That being said, this fnnn transfer portal/NIL bullshit that's ruining college sports could theoretically create a miserable system where guys like this actually get to the top, because it won't take as much effort to do so.

I have neither a problem with NIL or the Transfer Portal, however both need some major modifications to how they function... Especially in how they are utilized together.
To me the real solution comes to a place where we create a top flight division of football teams who simply all pay their players directly with a salary cap system so that one school can't just outspend all the others. I'd also revamp the transfer system so that players can sign contracts that bind them to schools for longer periods of time in which they cannot transfer but where they are paid more money or where if they do transfer, the other school has to pay a fee that comes out of their "salary cap" process.

Essentially we need to make this into a professional environment and allow the schools who really want to compete at this level to come together and do so while keeping real amateurism in place for other schools. But the wild west of being able to pay anyone anything without anyone tracking seems completely unstustainable.

Plenty of successful coaches are all about themselves. Urban won three championships.

I agree 100 pct, and this is why Kirk Ferentz's offense has sucked for a vast majority of his 24 seasons. Beware of those egomaniac control freaks

Well, he at least as the Buff fans interested again. 35k+ for their spring game, which if I read right was only attended by 1500 the year before.

I mean Willie Taggart managed to get somewhere between 55-65000 people to show up to his first spring game at FSU. We all see how that went.

And they were coming off of sucessful seasons and a championship run prior to that with a long history of success and support. Colorado, not so much.

Our avg attendance for most spring games is around 30k. So I'd say adding 30k simply over people being excited by the coach is similar.

The question is whether Prime can coach. He's shown he can collect egos, can he get them to work together and be a team. If so, then he's proven many people wrong.

Apparently Pat McAfee called it.

Got to give Deion props. Apparently 20 pt underdogs on the road. That is one hell of a start.

Telling it like it is; whoever that scribe or newsperson is, guarantee you'll he'll report that Prime is either: a. arrogant b. rude or c. lucky

maybe a or b, Deion has always worked hard so wouldn't call him lucky.
But he has also come across as a thin-skinned whiny child in situations so if the season takes a turn negatively it will be interesting to watch how he responds.
