Have we discussed Coach Prime going to Colorado?

Deion has impressed me.

First off, he clearly built himself a good coaching staff, which is critical since he is a figurehead / CEO style coach.

Next, he handled the death threats on CSU kid perfectly and came out hard against it.

Today, he showed he knows how to lose with grace.

He might end up being a great one.

I think his biggest strength will be recruiting, which probably worries some coaches.

Yeah. Big question is how much money does Colorado have from both an athletic department and a booster/NIL standpoint. Evidence suggest they don’t have near enough to compete with the big guns and charisma will only get you so far these days. But perhaps I am wrong on this too and they have some Mary Jane billionaires. Colorado could actually be a formidable program is they get the money. Boulder is a pretty sexy destination to go to for college compared to a lot of other football towns.

Winning is the best recruitment tool.

Prime can be the Calipari of football. Bringing in recruits on the promise of showcasing them for their NFL prospects.

Colorado has always been a draw for affluent out of state kids who graduate after four or five years spent in a Rocky Mountain pharmaceutical high and go back to where they came from with no sentimental ties to the school.
The kids from our area of Far North Dallas who went to Boulder just wanted a nice place to get away from their parents for a few years. None were the rah rah be true to your school types.
CU is pretty expensive these days if you’re not an in state kid.

Yeah. And the whole pot thing attracts a lot of out of state kids. I found this out about 7 years ago when my dad was doing a commencement speech at the local private school here he ran high school at. About 6-7 of the 80 graduates were going to Colorado schools!

The biggest question with Deion is after his kids finish school, does he bolt to a larger program with more money to spend on the program?

He owned the loss and I was impressed with how he handled the press conference.

If he stays at Colorado it's going to be a major power in a year or two. He'll probably pick up another 10 or so studs in the portal next year....needs to concentrate on both lines.

His high school recruiting at Colorado hasn’t been great. He’ll need to pick it up in October to meet their goal of 10+ wins in 2024.

I don't think he's going to rely on recruiting. He's gonna poach players in the transfer portal.

Yeah for sure and that will be painful (for other teams losing their best players). Why recruit HS when you can get a proven player from Div 1? But he will have to win. I don't know if the real/social media buzz (distractions!) will help with that.

The players he got out of the portal last year weren't great. More like castoffs with the exception of those who came with him from Jackson State.
He'll do just fine going forward via both the portal and recruiting. The NIL dollars are real and enticing with this many eyeballs on the program.

With the buzz he has generated I expect that to change significantly but we'll see....

I’ll defend Deion on one more point I’m seeing.

Going from 1-11 to 3-1 isn’t less impressive because he rolled over the roster. He still had to recruit transfers.

Colorado had access to the portal last year when they were awful. It’s just that no one good wanted to go there.

Well, that is disgustingly uncalled for...and to laugh at it is worse.

Hopefully, neither of you ever have to have something amputated yourselves.
Other than the ring finger on my left hand, all fingers and toes are accounted for. 19 is close enough.
