Have you ever caught food poisoning while traveling?

On a flight from Tampa to Chicago, youngest had food poisoning from a chicken quesadilla the night before at Frenchy’s in Clearwater. She was throwing up from 3 am till 6 or so when we had to get up to head to the airport. She said she felt fine and wanted a muffin and some sort of hot drink from Starbucks. Ate the muffin and drank the drink before we got on the plane still feeling fine. I was prepared with plastic bags as we sat on the plane continuously asking if she was alright. Got a nod things are good.

As we are about to lift off and I’m nodding off thinking we are going to make it, she grabs my arm with a death grip. As I look at her, she is salivating at the mouth getting ready to puke. I grab the plastics bags I brought with just in case by my feet and pull them out with one open, arms crossing over her as she starts to vomit in the bag, and all over my arms and hands. She is seated by the window and I’m in the middle. The lady in front of us was screaming asking if she threw up on her. I said no, it’s food poisoning and it was some saliva that she was blowing out as she was trying to hold her breath and not puke till I was ready. Needless to say, she puked numerous times on the flight but we had a great crew that was helping us out by giving up wipes and new garbage bags to take away to vomit. Ladies around us were giving me wipes to clean myself up since I didn’t get up from my seat so I could be there if I needed to assist my daughter. It was a fun five hour flight. She was upset and embarrassed by what happened but told her she doesn’t know any of these people and they don’t know her so don’t worry about it. To this day, I get blamed for msking her eat that chicken quesadilla that she decided to order from Frenchy’s. LoL.

Never had anything major. I do carry the heavy antibiotics to take if necessary as I spent a month in Haiti after the earthquake.

Anyway. Feel bad for anyone who has gone through that. It comes out of both ends and is horrific.

I had meal in 1st Class on a United Flight from Dulles to Brussels that caused me to pass out and have severe nausea. I was under a doctor's care for several hours and ruined what unknowingly was my final business trip.

Terrible experience.

I haven't had the misfortune of getting food poisoning while traveling, thankfully! I try to stick to places that look clean and have good reviews. It's always a bit of a gamble when you're trying new foods, though. I make sure to drink bottled water and avoid street food that looks iffy. I think being cautious helps, but you can never be 100% safe. I read somewhere that some basic hygiene tips can go a long way, like washing your hands before meals and eating foods that are cooked thoroughly. I found this site https://cookscrafter.com/ with some handy tips for safe eating while traveling.

My wife and I went to Vegas Friday night. We were suppose to go back home Monday. Finally this afternoon we are heading home.
Saw The Rolling Stones Saturday night. Sunday morning it hit me. I guess you can call it a weight loss program.
I did spend some time in a hospital.
I ate something that disagreed with me at a TGIFs in Minneapolis years ago.

Got one of the worst stomach aches I've ever had the rest of the night.

Fortunately, it let up by the time we went to the Mall of America the next day.

Got food poisoning on day 4 of a 7 day stay at a resort in Mexico.
The food has always been good there but some mussels did not agree with me or my father in law. I had diarrhea the rest of the trip and it carried over for another week at home.
The scariest part was flying for 5 hours home. Somehow I didn’t have to go….. #blessed

I once had a public health class as a student at U of I and the instructor was a “public health physician” and he told the class his opinion was over half of folks who claim they “had the flu” but never went to a doc, probably had some form of food poisoning instead….and he was a doctor….and we all know doctors are never wrong!

Spent a week in India a few years back constipated. Very surprised. Finally, last day in Varanasi before going to the airport, it hits.

Didn't know you could puke and have the runs at the same time. Impressive.
