Have you ever drank on the job?

I had a Wall Street job ... and many in our office kept a bottle in their desk. Our branch manager actually had a full bar in his office and always offered potential employees a cocktail. We often gathered around in someone's office late in the day and tipped a few.

There certainly was no proscription on drinking in the office.

My former employer actually served alcohol at work for quarterly communication meetings, as well as when we had our IPO and to celebrate the new sign for the building.

He had to be an alky looking for an excuse to drink.

Was that some sort of test or was it a serious "care for a drink?" type of thing with no right or wrong answer?

I haven't, but I'm closer than hell right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, but with a few exceptions, only when I was hanging around the shop waiting for something, not when I actually still had something to do. One of the exceptions was when I interviewed Joe Pickett at his brewery.

At my old job we had a thing called "More Fun Friday." Our boss would invite us to a beer tasting at around 4 p.m. on Fridays. It was optional so there was no pressure and we were paid for the last hour of the week. It was a good way to go over the week but also bond with the team.

So yes, I have drank on the job, but it was in a social environment.

Yes. We were out watering greens, boss calls on the radio to have us meet him at the shop. Had a couple beers and made one more loop.

I'm offered a beer from golfers several times a year. I always decline politely, except for one day a few years ago. I was the last one there, it was hot as hell, and I didn't GAF at that point. It was a Busch Light, but it was ice cold, and it went down quickly.

I don't know if you follow the GCSAA forums or not, but there was a thread a few years ago about the parties & shenanigans that people have been witness to at their shops. Holy smokes, there were some incredible stories.

Our "Risk Management" department has a "Workers Comp Bootcamp" every year. The bosses and the HR managers of all of our facilities would come to this conference, requiring overnight stays for most of them. Well, of course everyone hits the hotel bar the evening before the conference. One of the bosses had too much to drink, and his HR manager tried to help him get to his room. After leaving the room, she filed a rape allegation.

Ah, good times.... and a wonderful risk avoidance event!

Before my current position, I had an occasional lunch beer. Now I may have a beer or two while on back up call, but that's it

how many of you have a job where you could lose your job if caught -where you do it anyway? { don't answer that}

A handful of times I have had a lunch beer but nothing at my desk or in the office. I just recently received a work laptop and am now able to work from home on occasion but have not cracked one open while working.

I work at home, so yes, I do. Ironically, I needed a drink far more often when I worked at the office...

Yes. I managed an office for a large Dutch company many years back and they eventually shut us down. I had to let everyone go. Sucked. My last day there I brought a nice bottle of Laphroig and had a few snorts with my copy editor.

After a merger years ago, we attended a company wide meeting. Someone thought it a good idea to emphasize the coming changes by mixing up the normal order of things. We started the morning with a couple hour cocktail party...

This didn't end well...meeting was a disaster but the high point was the HR guy who spoke later in the afternoon and offered confidential counseling for anyone suffering alcohol issues...I kid you not

If you were a member at Glen Oaks CC in the early 00's chances are good your bartender and/or waitress was drinking on the job. My first day on the job I was shown what to drink and how to drink it so no one would know. It helped everyone deal with the a-holes there.

I worked in a restaurant when I was younger, everybody in the kitchen was f$&ked up on something.

Drinking on the job? I'm a chef. It's practically a requirement.
My current employer offers me a drink at least three times per week.

Most bartenders drink on the job and enjoy their time with
the customers. They will tell you that their job is like being
in a confessional booth at a Catholic church. They need
to drink in order to keep their sanity as they listen to the
sins of other people.
