Absolutely. I know there is a historic connection to the Midlands but this is two years in a row. There will always be a reason to exercise an “abundance of caution” and leave everyone holding their weasel.

feels like this is exactly what’s going to happen. don’t see either side backing off at this point with all the social media talk out there.
It appears Iowa, UNI, and Wisconsin are going to the Hawkeye open. Midlands has been pretty depleted already so I really don’t see how the Illinois tournament could have much quality at all. It sucks but it looks like both sides were planning this at the same time and probably didn’t know the other was working on it also until they were both committed.
According to Penn State’s schedule they’re open. Come on over boys and girls, seriously.
Instead of having one Midlands replacement, we'll most likely end up with two weaker tournaments because at this point there are egos on the line. F what's best for wrestling and go for personal glory.

i don't think uni and wisconsin are doing hawkeye open. i believe they are going to the midlands one.
UNI wasn't going to the Midlands before, so when did they decide to go to the Illinois Matmen version? Having two tournaments compete for the Midlands' scraps will provide plenty of drama for the Twittards, so that's at least one thing good to come out of this I guess. Let's see how they turn this into an attack on Tom and Terry or Iowa in general.
I applaud you and all who are working to save the event. It’s rather sad that there wasn’t communication early enough between the two (three) sides trying to save it. I don’t know how this will all shake out but I do question the decision to keep the venue. The way things are trending you are likely to secure many teams to come and then have the state of Illinois cancel on you this time.

as far as 'fighting for scraps', i'm not trying to compete with anyone. i just want to do my part to save one of the biggest events in the sport and that, to me, means letting the original midlands teams know.
i certainly hope the Hawkeye Open goes great. TNT are my friends and so are a good number of the people putting it together.
everything happened so fast. as soon as midlands were canceled i was asked to help. i had no idea there was another event being discussed.

That’s what I’ve heard. Both sides had no clue the other side was working on this until it was too late. I wasn’t blaming anyone. Just sucks it turned out that way. I would still be nervous trying to host an event in a week in that state. I won’t be shocked if the state pulls the plug on it.
Smalls , this year is what it is , for wrestling fans any action will be positive at this point. I hope what comes of this is even a bigger better tournament at a modern facility with some big sponsorship. A window of opportunity just opened, let’s grow the sport.
