I believe your hope is well founded.I sure hope the women come ready to play this weekend. One disaster is all I can handle in a week.

Derp.Fire Bluder!!! Too early? Alright I'll waIt for it......meanwhile Go Hawks, beat those Bluejays tomorrow!
every day I check this post.... kind if ironic considering how much more successful the Iowa women are than the men.... this post gets buried by posts bitching about the men
what do we have to do to start a women’s forum...... what if we had a forum covering all women’s sports if there isn’t enough interest in just basketball..... I expect the women’s wrestling team to generate some buzz once they get going too
While I like the idea that there’s enough interest in women’s basketball/sports to have its own board, I do think there is value to keeping the threads on the basketball board so non-diehards can be informed and potentially become bigger fans and grow the fanbase.I've suggested a WBB forum for years and just a few days ago, but never happens.
This is why we need a regional in Des Moines and not Bridgeport

HawkeyeNation has one, before the recent excitement there were about 2 people posting back and forth in it. It's probably why they won't create one here.
Sadly they're not even real fans of the mens' game. Otherwise, the Iowa women wouldn't have more sellouts this season than the Iowa men. Many of those that come out to bitch only come out when things are not going well and then disappear when the men win.I’m a huge fan of both men and women BB but one problem with a joint board is that too many of the threads about the women are turned into threads about the men. This is done mainly by those who are only fans of the mens game.

I would guess they are about 15-20 diehard fans that post regularly and a few hundred that read and don't post or post on occasion. But I think if there was a Women's sports board, the women's fans would likely be more active as I'm sure there's stuff that gets buried pretty quickly. But it'd be nice to not have all the noise and negativity that comes from some of the men's fans.I disagree. The Iowa women already have a good fan base, and if a non- die hard fans reads the BB and FB boards, I think they would also click on the Women's BB board. Just my opinion.
I disagree because there are several posts on the season thread and the recruiting threads as well as other threads on Hawkeye Report.
The excitement will continue to build as long as Iowa remains a top tier program. Especially if Iowa can advance to the Elite Eight/Final Four this year and likely again in 23-24. Bluder has recruited very well also the program has the pieces to sustain as top program. You would notice the threads would not have anywhere near as many eyes on it or responses once you create a new section. I'm not saying it should or shouldn't happen, women's sports normally isn't all that popular. Right now it is because they have one of the best womens basketball player in America and they just won the Big Ten.

Steve Batterson from the QC Times has been attending all of the WBB home games for a few years and has done a pretty good job of reporting on them. Matt Coss has been picking up the slack some also lately.Sadly they're not even real fans of the mens' game. Otherwise, the Iowa women wouldn't have more sellouts this season than the Iowa men. I get that most fans want that special moment to celebrate but there's no need to sacrifice common decency.
The local media doesn't help as they also over focus on the men's games and do little to promote the women's games. The Gazette will sometimes not cover games at all or wait 2-3 days before writing an article. And most of the time what they do have is bad. A recap of the box score and some quotes from post game but no real coverage of the pivotal moments in the game. Braydon and Kyle do their best to cover things and are often better than what The Gazette or even HawkCentral puts out.
Iowa women's BB has been pretty popular for the last several years, not just because of Caitlin Clark. So, we start a WBB forum and see how it goes. If it doesn't work, remove it. I'm betting it stays.
She does not have an offer right now but the coaches are following her closely and she has stated her desire to play for Iowa. I suspect the coaches are waiting til she's in HS to officially make an offer.I haven't read through all 38 pages, but....................we are recruiting Maddyn Greenway, former Iowa football player Chad Greenway's daughter, right?
She just led her team to the Minnesota Class 2A State title.....................as an 8th grader.
Feel free to join the one on HN, it could use a few more posters.

Home attendance has increased about 50% in the post Disterhoft era (the last time the Hawkeyes failed to make the NCAA tournament). Attendance in the pre pandemic season rose to over 7100 from less than 5000 in 2017. The genesis of the increase coincides with Megan Gustafson’s breakout national All-American junior season and continued through Kathleen Doyle’s Senior season. I conservatively estimate that average attendance for this regular home season exceeded 8000.Iowa women's BB has been pretty popular for the last several years, not just because of Caitlin Clark. Feel free to just leave if you haven't anything positive to add.
Great points as always, Braydon. What will the new recruits bring to the table offensively and defensively besides McCabe's 3-point shooting?Looking ahead to next season, teams are going to hack Clark until the referees stop them (if they ever do).
The solution for Clark getting hit at the rim is for her to take more floaters or short jumpers. If the refs aren't calling contact at the basket, there's no point in driving into the contact. She's a good enough shooter to hit floaters or short jumpers easily.
The solution to them grabbing and holding on the perimeter is to run them off ball screens until they pay for staying so close. You can set hard, legal ball screens, especially when the refs have a tendency to swallow their whistles. We don't. That needs to change, and is easily controllable.
Rebounding and defense are tougher. The roster as currently constructed is never going to be good at rebounding. But it can be far better than it was today. The team has to realize that to get where it wants to go, it's going to have to outwork its opponents. It will never be the more athletic team against good opposition. Today, Creighton outworked Iowa by a large margin on the glass.
Defensively, today's game shows the limits of Iowa's player defense. If opposing 5s are athletic, or if they run a ton of screens to shift matchups, Monika just can't keep up. It's not her fault. She's just not fast enough to keep up.
I think we have to focus hard on 2-3 zone in the off-season. The 2019-2020 team was good in a zone and Monika was far less experienced back then. Rotations are maybe this team's biggest defensive weakness, but also something that can be improved with work. Zone could also free Clark and Marshall up to jump passing lanes some. They both do it some, but not consistently enough to be disruptive yet.
