Your right of course, I guess I'm just getting worked up for the season with all the videos and interviews Ready for some football! Sometimes its hard to keep an open mind,(me), and remember all the teams are working hard, and are undefeated as of now. Like the look of this group though. My take is that the Hawks finish 9-3. There are 3 key pairs of games that I believe the Hawks split:

Pair 1: Wisconsin or Ohio State (games most folks peg us to lose - we get an "upset" win)
Pair 2: Northwestern or Penn State
Pair 3: Minnesota or Michigan State (the obligatory game we drop, the one we shouldn't, but we do anyhow)

My tacit assumption is that the impact of the new schemes and coaches goes more smoothly than many expect. Also, a 9-3 outcome relies upon only "average" injury frequencies. If we get hit especially hard ... then the outcome could be closer to what folks like Howe and Leistikow expect (both predict 7-5).

For above average Hawk teams .... 6 wins is a "bad season." I honestly believe that the current status of the team is WELL ABOVE average ... so something like a 7-win scenario would require bad things to hit the fan. In all frankness, bad stuff hit the fan in '15 ... and the Hawks handled the adversity brilliantly. In '16, bad stuff hit the fan ... and they responded okay ... however, the roster was a little more limited offensively.

I honestly believe that the Hawks will be a good bit better than the '16 squad ... but we'll only moderately see it reflected in our record simply because of the nature of the schedule.

I was just thinking ..... (that might explain the humming sound and the acrid smell in the room)

• Suppose we pull off victories through the first 3 games - the implication in terms of development is that we will have fared well against 2 quality QBs in Wyoming's Josh Allen and ISU's Jacob Park. Both guys have big arms with very good accuracy.
• Thus, how well will that set us up for the match-up against McSorley? McSorley is kinda like a beefier version of Iowa's Tate ... certainly the kid is a winner. Obviously, compared to the prior teams we've faced, PSU brings higher quality "toys" to the table. Win or lose ... how much does that developmentally push our D forward?
• The more I think about it - in terms of defensive development, Iowa's D should be more than prepared for what MSU brings to the table.
• Within a span of a month, Iowa faces 2 mobile QBs in PSU's McSorley and the Illini's Crouch ... then to close up the period we face off against Northwestern's Thorson. Will the prior match-ups prepare Iowa for yet another mobile QB who can pass the ball?
• Obviously, having faced the other guys ... we will not have faced any equivalent to JT Barrett. Of course, some of the other guys we will have faced likely can pass the ball better too.
• Past the OSU game - no other QB that we will face should be all that intimidating. Win out last three games again maybe?

We had 54 entries.

Everyone picked WY correctly and only 8 of 54 missed ISU (myself included).

The most predicted losses were OSU at 83%, PSU at 69% and Wisc at 57%.

Everyone predicted wins against WY, N TX, IL and Purdue.

Season average 8.7 wins and 3.7 loses

Wadley average 1,133 yards
