Hawkeyes offer 2019 PG D.J. Carton

Maybe the title to this thread should be changed? The detour is kind of disrespectful to Mr. Carton, who is a hell of lot more important to Iowa BB than Raef LaFrentz at this point.

Yeah, this is getting dangerously close to a Max Goldman/John Gustafson pissing match. LaFrentz graduated high school in 1994. I was in frickin' junior high school at the time. It was 23 years ago. Everyone should move on.

I highly doubt LaFrentz gives it much thought anymore. I'm sure, though, at the time, the way a lot of Iowa fans reacted when he did commit to Kansas, it's pretty easy to understand where the animosity came from. When you think about it, it's the same reason a lot of Iowa fans hate Iowa State and vice versa--they don't really hate the players and coaches per se, it's the fans that rub them the wrong way.

My memory is probably hazy but I do remember hearing rumors that Dr. Tom had offered Kent McCausland a scholarship as sort of "Raef bait" because they were known to be close friends back then. I'm just saying that was the rumor. Obviously, Kent and Raef are friends. In fact, if I recall correctly, and this might be more to KCEast's point, I remember reading an article while Iowa was making their Sweet 16 run in 1999. Supposedly, LaFrentz was at a sports bar some place screaming his head off for the team Iowa was playing. They asked Kent about it and he expressed being disappointed because he thought he and Raef were pretty good friends.

Does Raef still have that same level of animosity towards Iowa today? Who knows. And frankly, who cares.

Stop it...this thread is about Carton! ;)

This is how you do it...and get away with it.

Let's hope Carton gets the respect he deserves while and after he makes a hard decision. Because....

...and then you go into the whole Raef thing.

Point well taken.

I'm super glad I posted in this thread and am thoroughly enjoying all the great info I'm receiving. Keep it up guys!

It will be interesting to see where 247 1st rates Carton since his recruiting just blew up. This evaluation period wasn't kind to a couple of Iowa targets. Jeremiah Francis, whose game I now compare to Carton's, had his rating reduced from a lofty .97 to .9543, just below that of Tyrell Terry, holding at .9578 for some time now. Michael Moreno had his rating drop from .92 to .83. I suspect the Francis and Moreno drops had to do with inconsistent shooting performances this month.

I'm going to guess Carton starts in the .92-.95 range. Until he commits to Iowa when, of course, it will drop.

No doubt many of the sites follow offers as well as commitments. A couple of my favorite things about Rivals are that they get in no particular hurry to start the guesswork, and confine it to a somewhat reasonable 150.

I am confounded at how to reply to this as at once it seems you realize that dumba$$ fans exist everywhere, but find it alright to hate an entire fanbase for having dumba$$es.

The agitator has a short memory of his part. They can act out their vendetta and sort of be over their feeling of betrayal/hate/whatever.

Agitators (plural) combine to create an even larger menace. Whether it was a combined effort or unintentional, the agitators have now become an angry mob, with pitchforks and fire and chants of "kill the witch" for days and days and days. And until everyone gets there shot in, it's not over. A bit disruptive, don't you think?

I give the agitated the right to hold a grudge for longer because their lives were unhinged at the behest of a bunch of spoiled babies who thought they had the right to disrupt a family's life. Who knows how far or vile some of these attacks got? I just know fans are capable of it.

Go to youtube and search for a Raiders fan stabbing a Chargers fan for.....wait for it...being a Chargers fan. Or a baseball fan getting slammed to the concrete for being a fan of his team. None of this happened to the LaFrentz family, but can you imagine what did?

Yeah. Sorry. Didn't mean for it to happen. Hope DJ goes to the Hawkeyes. Go Hawkeyes!!!

It would sure be great if Fran could lock down a top PG recruit early. I know Carton has indicated that he is in no hurry, but sometimes you like what you see and you "know" what you want...

at one point it was suggested that maybe Iowa's top PG target for 2019 was someone other than DJ Carton (I believe the Terry kid from Minnesota was mentioned)....not the case anymore (if it was the case previously)

I think Iowa is in a good position to land Carton now that Fran is involved. Iowa probably should have offered a little sooner because they could of had him on campus sooner. But the process has just started...with visits coming to Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri and others.

Still think it comes down to Iowa and Wisconsin...with an eye toward what the rosters will look like in the fall of 2019...which program style of play fits (which Iowa I think has an advantage)...what other recruits have committed for class of 2019. All of these will be reviewed next summer (about this time).

As to early commit..shoot I never thought Fran could land two bigs over the same football weekend (Nunge & Garza)...so not going to put anything past him...but all indications are Carton will not verbal for another year to anyone.

I attend a lot of Bettendorf games...I would expect to see a number of college coaches in attendance.
