125 CRUZ #28 vs #16 Cruz was working hard hand fighting pushing action and that work paid off getting 1st TD. He hit a shot came up with kid thought he should maybe take more time there. Stayed agrressive in 2nd, showed good scramble D. Smart on bottom to secure a HUGE win in high pressure situation 96

133 HERNANEZ ur VS ur Gave up a quick TD got right out, but kid from Ohio st is good and started playing TD let him up and then a tilt at end for tech, a bit over matched 65 for effort

141 BLOCK #31 vs # 1 Shot quick was hoping to get that TD but got stalemated. Pretty good D against 1st attempt by Mendez. Would like to see a little better performance but Block may be sucking TWOOO much weight??? 65

149 PARCO #2 vs 9 GREAT D to counter and score! gave up an escape with very little time in 1st. 2nd starts down very EZ escape, no more scoring though. Start TOP in 3rd rode some to build RT. Again showed great D but would have liked to see a little more Offense but he wrestles and WINS 91

157 TEEMER #1 vs 17 I assume he had his game plan, kind of just hanging around and picking his spots. When he shot, was like drilling in practice on a dummy!!! A little bit of work to get off bottom good 1st match back 83

165 CALIENDO #2 vs 9 SMOOTH set up on 1st TD, NICE finish on 2nd. MISSED his escape because of stupid TV coverage going to replay when there is LIVE ACTION!!!! Must have been quick, he just poured it on and he looks GREAT!!!! 100

174 KENNEDY #5 vs 6 Was not generating any good offense, gave up 1st TD but got out real quick. Took a bad shot and seemed to get a little lazy and kid re-shot for another TD. Thought it was dumb to take bottom down 7-2, can NOT waist time there!!!! Got out and still could not generate any O ,,, 69 Let the talks of NELSON begin!!!

184 ARNOLD #5 vs 17 was getting in deep but not able to finish shots. Was aggressor in 1st (and just about the entire match) but no score. quick escape in 2nd. Again no more scoring. Almost made a mistake when he cut him in 3rd, close to a reversal. Had to go to OT to get a BIG WIN for the team but he stayed COOL and got it done. 80. I am wondering if 174 would be a better weight for him?

197 BUCHANAN #1 vs 17 TD to a quick tilt opening up the scoring was impressive!!!! Wrestles like a lighter guy.Misdirection shot end of 1st was NICE!!! Almost had a reversal at start of 2nd settled for escape, added another TD and finished on top. On his 3rd TD he shot, guy countered, he adjusted and just kept coming staying on the GAS!!!! Another tilt for the TECH to seal the deal for the HAWKS 100

Heavy KRUETER 11 vs 6 zeros in 1st, thought Ben was pushing action mostly. Start down in 2nd right out., showed good D cutting corner on shot to get TD but then got reversed. Thought he might be able to ride some but could not. Wrestled smart for anothe BIG WIN for the GOOD GUYS!!!! 97

CROWD looked HUGE and LOUD!!!

Was a nice interview with TEEMER after match.

Overall pretty impressed today.

Agreed Block is cutting way too much weight and has zero energy. Mendez is an animal and is a great one.

Seriously wonder who wins in the room at 174. Kennedy is JAG, Arnold is good but too small at 184. Pretty good, but to small. Ferrari was extremely involved on the bench. You can tell he’s chomping at the bit but is redshirting.

I can definitely see this team having 3-5 finalists. A champ or 3 if things fall the right way.

Great scramble to avoid the td by Joey in the 2nd period. That match could have been a whole lot different if he ended up on bottom there. Overall, the team looks good and I feel better about next week after seeing them go today. The best win to me today was Big Bens, he needed that and deserved it.
Big Ben was definitely the best win. Everything was pretty much according to the plan.

Really like Gabe Arnold and his motor. My personal favorite of this squad. I think he's doing what's being asked of him for the good of the team. He's giving it his all at a weight that his body is not suited for. 174 is where he belongs.
Love Gabe and years past I have had an easy favorite this year I am struggling with that. Teemer, Cali, Buch, Ayala, Gabe and Buch all have some serious skills but if I had to choose one it would be Cali, Buch is a close 2nd. Mainly due to those are the 2 most consistent wrestlers we have. Crazy thing is we could easily have 5 finalists with Ayala, Parco, Tbird, Cali and Buch. Still probably not enough to derail Karl and his kronies but surely enough to get 2nd.

I’d give Teemer a higher grade. Being out for as long as he was with a hamstring injury and somehow being able to stay in as good as shape as he was is mind boggling to me. Match was never in doubt, quality opponent, and I thought he looked incredible. Dude gets a solid A from me.

Block looked way overmatched. Gabe got the win but think he is better suited at 174. Kennedy had no offense. MC and Buchanan brought it. Good win by Kueter.
I would agree other than Gabe. We can't have both with him. He can't be a good size 184 this year and a 174 next year very easily. I don't know what it will end up, but if Gabe is going 174 next year he will be a small 184 this year. I don't see him using it as an excuse and we shouldn't either. He might be short for 184, but strength isn't an issue at 184.

he is strong AF. He is a fan favorite I can tell you that. we love him. we want him at his best weight regardless.

Love Gabe. Don’t know who I’ll miss more when his time is done here. Gabe or his Father (and that is a compliment to you coach…forgive me as I forgot your user name lol).

We need bonus at nationals to keep it close. PSU seems to catch more fish in March than Babe Winklemen in a whole season.

Unfortunately we are still getting crap stomped next week. Especially with Ayala in question now. PSU looked like they trained through Rutgers this week in preparation.

In his interview he said it was the first live wrestling he has done since the injury. I'm not sure on his verbiage, but it seemed he meant the first non-drilling wrestling.

125: Cruz looks better every match, which is obviously great for you guys, but McCrone is so overrated. I don't think they can keep rolling him out instead of Kilkeary much longer.

133: Disappointing not to see Ayala. Davino is UR because he's redshirting, but he beat Bouzakis at a tournament, so he's really their strongest guy at the weight. I think Ryan didn't want Bouzakis to take an L vs Ayala, so he switched to Davino, but Brands didn't want Ayala to risk taking an L to Davino, so we got no starters and Davino demolishing some overmatched room guy instead. Sometimes these seed-protecting games get in the way of great matchups, and it sucks, but it is what it is. All teams do it sometimes, and 133 is a free for all this year, so seeding is kind of important.

141: I agree the cut has to be difficult for Block, but Mendez has been doing that to everyone this year. I wouldn't read too much into it. Block is someone you hope gets in the big dance and maybe wins one or two. He's not really an AA contender, and Mendez is a beast. Mendez vs Alirez is one of the matches I'm most looking forward to on Saturday at nationals.

149-165: Parco, Teemer, and Caliendo all did what they were supposed to do and looked good doing it. Good to see Teemer back.

174: Woof, this was a dud for PK. He's looked pretty good when I've seen him this year, but not tonight.

184: Gabe should win by more, but he was the better guy throughout and came through in the clutch.

197: Buchanan is #1 for a reason. I can't wait to see Buchanan vs Barr after seeing Barr score 22 points in the third Friday vs a ranked opponent (and former AA).

HWT: Quality win for Kueter. HWT is absolutely loaded this year, but mostly with seniors, so these are the matches that Kueter needs to win to have a chance to make the podium this year and contend for the title next year, so that was huge for him.

Seed protecting games is why Iowa took a TF loss at 133. Got it

Cruz is a fighter. Maybe a multi-AAfighter. Prefect to bring out the LL beast at this time. Cruz will be humbled but he seems to learn fast

Probably so but even Gabe admitted early season 174 was a tough cut. Maybe didn’t show up ready to compete there early on.

Certainly a fair take! I was grading mostly on the match performance itself with the comeback weighing in 2nd. He is from my area and I am rooting for him to win it all ! His offense/talent is obviously extremely good and I just want him to open up more. Sasso is not chopliver himself but coming back from being shot has taking its toll. Gave him the 8-3 because that has the extra meaning TWOOOO it!
Does anyone know what Gabe Arnold weighed in at yesterday?
I was also thinking this. Could TnT be looking at a little switch up with Arnold at 74 and Ferrari at 84???

Shock the world with a win at 25, Ayala wins, Parco wins, Teemer wins, Arnold wins, ferrari wins, Buchanan wins !!!! BIG tears in NOT so happy land!!!!!

Dual tactics has been a strong point for Brands.

Yep it started during Cass. I don't think there's a reason someone did it and it stuck and others joined in
Actually I think the Woooing may go back to the Sam Stoll years. My understanding is the WOO is associated with WWE's Ric Flair. Very annoying, but thankfully it seems to be dying out as fewer folks seem to be doing it each meet.

Gabe's opponent Rotozke is no slouch. He beat Gabe back in 2021 in Freestyle and has had pretty good freestyle success. Him and his brother at Indiana are both dangerous pinners, and he had 16 pins last season. Gabe wrestled him smart and carefully. It was obvious Gabe tried to avoid tie-up situations and scrambles as that's where Rotozke could catch him in a big move.
