I dont know anything about the CBU kid but Teske was dissappointing. Hopefully, its a first time at Carver explanation. And really, anything after Desanto is going to be a bit diappointing regardless.

Leake was 7-7 last year at 133. He was 2nd & 7th in CA in high school

The CBU kid beat Iowa states 133 last night I believe. So I don’t think he’s a scrub, but it’s tough to argue Teske looked like an AA in that match. On the bright side Teske seemed pretty disappointed. He looked towards the coaches and put his hands in the air.

It’s Teske’s first match at Carver, first match at 133….it might take some time to get him in shape. We shall see as the season moves on.

I would argue Teske isn’t AA material in the first place.

What was the final score?
Obviously you didn't see the meet . A little context. With about 20 seconds left the Baptist kid up like 8-3 blatantly slapped our 125 on the head while he was getting up off the mat. If he had a closed fist it would have been a punch.
I would have dq'd him if I was the ref. It was that blatant.

I really can’t hate…he saw his opportunity to party on Iowa in Carver and he took it.
Hard for me to understand the cluelessness of someone who beats a fourth-string wrestler and celebrates like he's the baddest mofo in the world and just won the Olympics. I suspect that will turn out to be the high point of his life. Right before he got smacked by his own coach for being such a giant douche.

yea his coach met him with a nice big ole shove…… might be some extra conditioning in his future

The kid won a match in Carver. I’ll give him that. And that head smack also would be acceptable in some match situations, imo. But not in THAT one. Lol I’m pretty sure our kid was on his knees and had his back to opponent when he got slapped in the back of the head.

Fun fact about Hunter Leake. He wrestled for national powerhouse Buchanan HS in Northern Cali. He was 7th in state as a sophomore. His Junior year he was JV cause Buchanan had 3 consecutive state finalists at 106-120. He was a state runner-up his senior year. I thought Teske looked ok. He’s got a great motor and pushes the pace. Mental error to give up the reversal late, but solid otherwise.

The kid can scrap. And it was a good match. They both came out to wrestle. Our guy won. Yet some are disappointed, apparently.

I would argue Teske isn’t AA material in the first place.
He wasn’t far from it last season. I think he showed some big balls when he beat AA Hildrebrandt from PSU. In 2021 he beat AA Augustino. His losses at last years tourney were to McKee and Arujau. I don’t know who’s going to end up being the starter (Brands said it’s getting worked out in the room), but not having to cut as much as he has should help him out a lot. Anything after ADS is going to be a bit of a let down.

In Teske’s post match interview he mentioned they had a wrestle off last week. I didn’t see those results posted….I’m guessing this was done behind closed doors. But it would seem that Teske won the wrestle off. I don’t think the weight is settled but I do think he’s going to get first crack at the starting lineup. May the best man win, competition makes everyone better.

I watched the interview and it did sound like he believed he’s going to be the guy. Very complimentary of Schrievers work ethic.

I missed the entire match(called into work for emergency) for what I can gather here everything went almost what we should have expected, besides a slap to the head and maybe Teske was a bit over pumped for the moment.

We are just getting started, lets Go Hawks

Mehh, disagree. That was an intentional hard slap. Not talking about the celebration.
You think smacking him in the head like that was acceptable at any level of sports?
Remember Gilman and the face mush? Our guys haven't always been saints either.
We have the answer to this sort of bad behavior, and that is to embarrass these jerks on the mat, where it's supposed to happen. As the others say, let's see how this kid does with Spencer Lee. ;)

Teske wasn’t over pumped, imo. His opponent was legit. And he apparently beat Shriever in a wrestle off. I’m all for him holding that spot if Shriever still has four years of eligibility left after redshirting this season. That might let him heal up properly.

Possibly you’re right. TBD. The season will tell us.

Maybe not but he will have no better opportunity than in the room he is in.

He's a RS senior who's best finish is round of 12 two years ago and now he's moving up to a weight with no less than 8 AAs in it. Don't get me wrong--I'm hardly counting him out as he's talented--but that's the basis for my post.

And, to be clear, his opponent was no slouch. Has a good pedigree and he stuck Redding from ISU who's talented and was an NQ as a true freshman. I thought Teske did really well and think the negative comments about his performance are misguided.

Looks like Warner has decided on the Spencer Lee approach. Get your hands on the guy go lights out at the start and end the match early. No sense in dragging these things out to the 2nd or 3rd period.

Level of opponent was a factor. That said, loved the move.

He is better than what we saw in that match, imo
