What a game! The Hawks will learn from this and have shown from the first game that they are getting better. Enjoy the season. Uthoff is everything we hoped he could be in his senior year, Wow! Woody is playing his best ball and staying on the floor. Jok is better and getting better with the best yet to come. Sap is playing extremely confident and steady. His best is yet to come. The same with Gesell.

Improvements since game 1:
1 have cut down on fouls
2 defensive rebounding better
3 offensive rebounding improving
4 going to the line more
5 transition defense getting better
6 progress at handling runs by other team since Advocare tourney

Next steps:
1 bench needs consistency so Fran can rest the starters. This may be the key to the next step this year.

In the ISU game if the bench could have given a little more they could have rested the starters which may have led to better play at the end of the game. This would also let the starters get some perspective from the bench and coaches. Iowa got a little bench to go up by 6 @ a minute to play.

Still encouraged and a fun team to watch.

I see nothing good coming from last night's loss. The big thing about this team the last 3 years has been the inability to close the deal-game after game, year after year. The team doesn't necessarily choke like it did bigtime last night but historically simply can't close. Gutting it out last night along with the OT win against FSU might have exorcised that demon. Now, it will probaly be as strong as ever. "We're gonna lose" may well continue in their heads everytime a game is close late-just like it probably was last year and the year before. This has to be on Fran somehow. I can see no other explanation.

The Newbies learned the value of each possession and winning is more than just talent. It encompasses knowing situational basketball. Turnovers are always a potential 6 point swing. The other team scores a 3, a missed opportunity by Iowa -3, a score by opposition +3 = 6 pt swing. If other team is down by 14 now down by 8. If it happens again now down by only 2. Things happen fast. Turnovers are crucial. It is what the other team wants which is stops! I believe The Hawks will learn from this.
