Just got word from one of the bitter football board frequenters via the basketball board that our lack of wrestling NCs recently is due to the ineptitude of Gary Barta as an athletic director.

All we need to do is get rid of Gary and the problem will fix itself. It's that simple, fellas!

Those ranting football board guys with their hidden pearls of wisdom and truth. Ya never know what they'll discover next.

Ha, I wish i could pin wrestling on him but he has no influence over it considering the coach was already in place.

However Gary is not looking good in any other programs right now. Maybe baseball but it only could get better from the prev coach. Womens Bball is on a high note but other than that..

Bottom line is Iowa wreslting is the only sport winning him conference titles anymore. Iowa athletics overall is at an all time low. But the guy can fund raise so he has bought himself time.................. But that will dry up if the product isnt worth supporting.

IMO both Kirk and Gary get canned in about a year from now. As Kirk said, you get what you deserve.

That's pretty much been the case for a while. Iowa has won exactly 2 non-wrestling B1G championships in the last decade: Women's Basketball (regular season) in 2008 and Men's Outdoor Track in 2011.

Not counting wrestling, Iowa won 14 B1G titles in the '90's (11 by the women, 3 by the men). 6 B1G titles in the 2000's (4 by the women, 2 by the men), and 1 in the 'teens (men).

Non-wrestling B1G titles since 1990 (not including tournament titles in basketball):

Men's Sports:
Football: 3 (1990, 2002, 2004)
Gymnastics: 1 (1998)
Outdoor Track: 1 (2011)
Baseball: 1 (1990)

Women's Sports:
Basketball: 6 (1990, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2008)
Field Hockey: 5 (1992, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2004)
Softball: 3 (1997, 2000, 2003)
Golf: 1 (1991)

Wrestling, on the other hand, has won 15 B1G titles since 1990. The rest of the athletic department has won 21.

Wrestling: 25 titles
All women's sports: 25 titles
All other men's sports: 12 titles


How about since 1970?

Wrestling: 31 titles
All women's sports: 25 titles (first one was 1981)
All other men's sports: 17 titles
