We always westled in Humboldt’s Frank Gotch Memorial Tourney as a kid.
Anybody know if it’s still going?
It is still around, held in November.

Seems like I remember seeing those being sold at a table, maybe out in the cafeteria. Brackets came with a black n white photo of F. Gotch pasted in the corner.I wrestled there too! Pretty sure I bought (well my parents) my first Frank Gotch book there.

Lots of great memories of those kids tournaments and lots of talented kids. Good times!
Did you go on to be one of the Greats, though? If you wrestled someone really bad, and who bled a lot, well, that could have been me.

That would make it tough.Great would not be the correct term unfortunately. We didn’t even have wrestling at the school I attended until after I graduated from HS.
Actually, ol' Karl went to his reward.Frank Gotch is no longer alive, but Karl Gotch I believe is still involved with SCIENTIFIC WRESTLING
His path to that title was insane as well. Beat 2 guys who won on last nights card and a world champ.I gotta throw Cory Clark’s name out. Incredible career and his national title equals two imho. Herculean effort with that shoulder. I’ll never understand how the hell he did that with his injury. I’m also giving him extra credit for the post-match Brands lateral drop lol.
It really was an amazing run with a torn up shoulder. Pure guts. His path to that title was insane as well. Beat 2 guys who won on last nights card and a world champ.
Micic, Tomasello, and Gross.
Funny as I was typing my Cory Clark note right as you sent this last night! Wasn't trying to steal your thunder lol, and I'm buddies with "JF" down here in KC. Learned a year or so ago that he's buddies with you. Every time I see him I tell him to say hello to "Mr. Gobblin" lol. I'll need to meet the "man, the myth and the legend" known as Gobblin someday lol. Appreciate you (I push the naysayer aside...ha).Mark Ironside, Cory Clark, Matt McDonough, and refuse not to mention Mike Kemerer.
Him and his brother and pops are gems! Had many wild and great times with them boys at NCAAs over the years. I believe he mentioned you last year in KC that you were gonna try to come meet up but never worked out. Any friend of them boys is a friend of mine. Hope we get a chance to share a pop someday. Absolutely. Funny as can't remember how, but about 10 years ago he got my name somehow (we work in same industry) and reached out to me about potentially working together. We met, and probably within 15 minutes knew the business angle wasn't going to work. Spent the next hour plus talking all things Hawkeyes. We reconnected a few years back, grab a bit every few months together. Think it was 2-2.5 years ago. We're chatting over breakfast, I mention the Iowa forum and how I enjoy it, start dropping a few user names of folks that share comments I enjoy, I drop your name, and he looks me straight in the eye and says, yeah, I'm friends with that guy. I was like oh for F's sake, you got to tell that dude hello for me. And yes, last year didn't work out. I was there, but business BS kind of got in the way. It will happen someday, and I look forward to that day.Him and his brother and pops are gems! Had many wild and great times with them boys at NCAAs over the years. I've been fortunate to have lived in some amazing cities around this country, traveled to lots of places on this earth, know lots of incredible people, and I'm telling you (you already know this), having a few more JFs in this world would be a dam good thing. Hell of a guy.
Enough of this "schmoopy stuff" lol. Just had to throw the JF thing out there. Cheers to you Gobblin!
Lol. And I can't disagree with you. I am married with a 6 and 9 year old. My wife does have a face for network TV, I have a face for AM radio that no one wants to listen to. I can go thru the vetting process for pics if requested lol.
