Holy Cow did UCF get screwed by the refs

Like I said in an earlier post, I wont go as far as saying the fix was on, but man Duke gets more than their fair share of calls. Didn't watch and refuse to watch Duke (and UNC). UCF had their chances, but one could make a strong case for an offensive foul on Zion there. College bball is hard to watch.

Yup! NCAA gonna make sure Duke gets to the second round.

UCF did blow it with the break away alley oop that they missed. Should of pulled back and ran some clock.
I think the officials also could have called a foul on the last drive to bucket. It looked like Jones was bodying the opponent on the drive. Totally agree the missed alley-oop hurts and ended up being a 5 point swing.

Hate Duke.

No bad calls. That was a clear foul by Fall. Zion made an amazing play. They aren't deep enough to win it all imo. They only have 3 guys who score.

My God then! Man up and get certified. Maybe then you will have a perspective of how difficult it is to officiate basketball. As a high school official it’s much more difficult than it is when I officiate football and baseball. Good grief

It's not that hard to be consistent.

Many college basketball games are not officiated consistently.

Calls are going to get missed and made wrong. That's one thing. When one team is allowed to mug around the perimeter and restrict freedom of movement and the other team gets whistled for touch fouls that's another. And that happens too much in college basketball.

In the case of this particular game, the three calls (Zion charge, rebound push off, body foul on bank attempt) at the end were 50/50 calls. As expected, all three were in favor of Duke.

UCF just proved why you should just foul in that situation. Trade free throws up 3 with 15 seconds left and you probably win and have OT at worst. Why let Zion iso anyone late, especially with the refs in this tourney? Recipe for disaster and it was.

Iowa did something similar at Nebraska, let the other team shoot 3 pointers up 9 with 50 seconds left. Just... foul. They might even MISS a few free throws. So hard to come back trading free throws.

So if I have surgery and the doctor cuts off my hand instead, can their response be ‘go ahead and become a doctor so you know how hard it is? Hope you never send a steak back unless you have been a chef. I don’t need to be an official in order to understand how difficult it is or to see a missed call.

you are either blind or dumb or a duke lover

Nope. I'm just objective. Duke hate blinds some as is clear by this thread. That was obviously not a charge.

I didn't see Dawkins or his players going nuts over the call, no booing in the stands, no commentary by the guys calling the game or in studio, no writers I've seen on Twitter going berserk. Just here, where I come to get some of the most irrational sports opinions on the web :)

Why is it the response to bad officiating invariably goes to the "get certified and be a ref and see how hard we have it"? I can't think of many other jobs where people do that. I don't want to, or have the time to, be a ref. I just want you guys to do your job correctly. Some do, many don't. Talk to the guys that are making you look bad and help them be better.

Nah. You give poor officiating too much credit.

Its really not that hard, if you can handle the coaches and players that really aren't all that scary...........

If they ignorantly get upset at an official and are in the wrong, officials be like:

On the other hand.........we DO need to start holding officials accountable for their own piss poor efforts beyond the closed-door bullsh**, much like all you yahoo motherf***ers do with players, coaches, and athletic directors on a daily basis. Why should officials get a pass compared to them?

So on second thought......

Lol you hid that comment well. I had to look for it a little bit.

But, I am an official  so I know what it's like. Why do you think they upset me so much?.............

Good effort though.

And I do ref games when I'm not coaching. Sorry, that is hard for you to accept. But just know......I would never lie to you. ;)

So a player essentially jumping straight up jumps from the protected circle on the right side and lands just inside the protected circle on the other side of the basket? Makes perfect sense that nothing happened to him. Or is this the ‘hate to decide the game on a whistle’ time.

That was not an offensive foul on Zion. Defender did his best to create the contact. If you watch closely he bellies up and sticks his chest out knowing he'll create contact and then flop back to try to draw the whistle.Great no-call.

Officials do even up foul calls though.. Had an OVC official tell me that last night. Said it’s a big topic of conversation at TV timeouts.
They don't "even up" fouls. They are aware of the foul count. if there are 50/50 plays that could go either way, they may go the direction of the team with fewer fouls called if the foul spread is starting to grow. They don't make up a call where a foul cannot be supported.

I don't get the "even up" the fouls that a lot of people look for. I said this recently on here, but it bears repeating.

If one team commits 15 fouls and gets called for 13 and the other commits 25 and is called for 22, it was a well officiated game. If one team commits 10 and is called for 15 and the other commits 20 and is called for 15, the refs sucked.

Like I said, it's a 50/50 call, depending on your perspective. Had the situation been reversed, the ref blows the whistle to call a charge 9/10.

To my point, there may be some sensitivity increase to fouls if you know a team has 1 foul while the other team has 6 or 7. You don't make up a foul, but you will make sure if there is one there that can be supported on tape, you go get it. And you may only do that once or twice. You're not getting the count to 6 to 5 based on that. You might just pick up one, maybe two max. It doesn't mean it always happens, because regardless of sensitivity, you still may not have anything that rises to the level of a foul the tape supports. I'm not sure if that makes sense.
