How does voter fraud occur?

For the record, I’m sort of neutral on the topic but I’m open to being swayed either way.

I see lots of things like this that Elon retweeted today so I know there are lots of people that have concerns.

So I’m just curious logistically what would it look like if there were to be significant fraud in this election?

And specifically with regards to the issue of not requiring an ID, would that imply that people show up to vote in person and claim they are someone else? Or is there some other scenario I’m missing?

I scrolled down a bit further on Elon’s page and I saw this, so maybe someone will intentionally commit fraud to show how easy it is and then my question will be answered.

But I’m just thinking about the logistics of it and I think you would have to know someone else that is registered to vote and then show up and pretend you are them. But then if later that day that person actually does show up to vote, wouldn’t that expose the fraud?

It happens. It’s extremely rare.

Don’t believe anything you read on Twitter. Voting fraud isn’t even a fraction the problem that voter suppression is.

I probably wouldn’t be that upset if we make this a requirement. My understanding is most other countries already require an ID. I’m just trying to wrap my head around what we are protecting against with this. Here’s another post about it.

That I could see and maybe happens already. For instance every election I hear about volunteers that drive around the city offering to give rides to people to get them to the polls. So offering to drop off their mail-in ballots isn’t that much further of a step from what’s already happening.

Another thing Elon posts about a lot is immigration helping elect the Democrats, which I think is technically true but I don’t see how it could impact this election.

For instance the migrants will be counted in the next census , which will then boost the electoral college power of the states that they move to.

And even if these migrants never get to vote, their kids born in the US will eventually be able to vote.

Of course the counter-point is that I believe latino voters have actually been moving more to Republicans so maybe eventually this won’t be such a help to Democrats as it has been.

The most common form of voter fraud is people filling out and returning others' ballots without them knowing.

For example a son filling out an elderly parent's ballot. A nursing assistant filling out a resident's ballot for them without them knowing. A parent filling out a child's ballot without them knowing. Etc.

The most common type of voter fraud is of recently deceased voters. Loved ones usually attempt to vote for them.
The other theories usually require multiple individuals in on it. The more individuals the less chance of success. The risk vs reward is crazy high to be part of a organized voter fraud campaign that could tip a major election.
