We play you guys in B-Town this year. It's hard to gauge this Iowa team. Stanley and Fant are great players. Is this a 6-6 Iowa team or one of those 10-2 teams you guys reel off every so often?

In all seriousness, if Iowa doesn’t win at least 8 games I think something will have gone seriously wrong. Softer schedule, toughest games are all at home save for Penn State and possibly Minnesota.

The potential is there to have a very good season, but it’s a team dominated by sophomores and juniors so next year should be better to be honest. I think we only have something like 11 or 12 seniors, only 3 or 4 of which will start.

Minnesota? Yeah.... That boat will be sunk in the 1st Q,

The primary "worries" for the Hawks are at linebacker and punter. Given that the Hawks are historically solid at LB during Ferentz's tenure ... odds are that the Hawks are looking at an above average team this year.

The Hoosiers seemed like they were pretty tough to play last year - but they couldn't get over the hump. I anticipate that the Hoosiers will give the Hawks a dog-fight ... but I doubt that they get over the hump against the Hawks.

Someone please photoshop an IU hat onto Bigfoot here!

EDIT to add that in all seriousness, playing in Bloomington has never been a particularly easy out for Kirk's Hawkeyes.

We lost there in 2000 even after putting up 33 points and Jon Beutjer threw for around 300 yards. Randle El was just too much for us.

One of our best teams ever was only able to get out of there with a 24-8 win in 2002. (That was the week before we curbstomped Michigan in the Big House, so maybe this was a case of not showing too much of the playbook and looking ahead.

Our 2006 fatcats team lost a heartbreaker 31-28 in Bloomington.

We got our only comfortable win in the series in 2008 when we won 45-9 in 2008.

In 2010, we should have lost, were it not for an IU receiver dropping a TD catch late. We were lucky to escape with an 18-13 win.

In 2012 we weren't any good and lost 24-21.

In 2015, another of our all time great teams got out of Indiana with only an 8 point win.

I'm sure the game this year will be similar. Hopefully our LBs will have grown up by then.

Considering we’ve had only 3 6-or-less win seasons since 2001 under Kirk (6-7, 6-6, 4-8) I feel pretty confident saying this, and any Iowa squad, is expected to win at least 8 every season. Anything less is a disappointment and >8 is a solid season. We are good for 10+ once or twice every 4-5 years.

Hawks should go 8-4. Per usual our oline will be great for the nfl but not so good for the hawks. Last year we ranked 96 in the country for team rushing.

It is also very easy to pressure or sack our quarterback most games. Our defense is pretty good. But they should sue the offense.

You’re going to have a long day in Iowa City this year. I don’t think Iowa will blow you out but it will be a slow painful loss for all you Wis people.

The iowa defense will put up a great battle again. But your offensive coaches have no clue how to block the wisconsin defense. They cant even figure out who to block on passing downs even with a second round draft choice at center. How is that going to improve this year ? I do hope the hawks get more than 66 total yards this year. Maybe we could have our quarterback rushing players hold their hands up before the snap in the first half to help out your offense so they can figure out who to block.
It gets kind of boring watching your quarterback go down.

Again, I’m not saying we’re going to take you out back a beat the holy life out of you, like basketball last year. But Iowa will win comfortably.

The only way iowa could beat wisc this year would be for wisc to commit four turnovers to iowas one. That is your only hope.

I am expecting iowa to win the turnover battle. But wiscy gets a close win. Iowa oline struggles again vs wisc.

I'm much more worried about the Hawkeyes being able to stop Bucky' O than Iowa's offense scoring touchdowns on the 3 -4 You know that was BF and KOK's first priority in the off season and they will pour over game film until they find the holes in that defense and they are there. I hope ISU is putting in some 3 - 4 packages so Nate Stanley can see some at game speed. However Paul Chryst should have the best offense since he's been HC. Maybe the best wideouts in the B1G, Horningbrook is definitely one of the top three QB in the league and Wiscy always has a solid running game I think this game might be a shootout similar to the Iowa vs. Iowa St. last year

I have to admit, the more you talk about Wis winning this year, the more I think Iowa will win. Maybe even blow Wis out!

No you had better hope for a low scoring game. Even if BF and kok can figure out who to block the wisc linebackers are just to quick for the iowa offense. Iowa needs to figure out that they need to go to a very quick short passing game early in the game to win. But kirk wont even let them script it that way. Either that or they need more speed on offense.

The wisc offense will be good but they will not reach shoot out like points in this game.

Look for Iowa to run bubble screens and power sweeps to open up Fant and Hockenson on seam routes over the LBs. Those 3 down lineman will wear out running sideline to sideline. Those LBs will have stay close to the LOS for run support

Well maybe we can get some of my posts into the hawkeye locker room. Last year it looked liked the oline was sleep walking vs wisc. Same thing vs purdue on senior day of all things. Something very wrong there. The offense plays lackluster on senior day. Come on it has to be a coaching problem.

Maybe iowa should drop the break the rock mantra and just go with open your eyes on pass plays so they can see who to block vs wisc..

OK smart guy maybe you could tell us what you would call to beat a 3- 4 def. instead of snide remarks that bring absolutely nothing to this discussion. Not very hard for the rest us of to figure out that you are a troll

I have already explained in this thread what iowa needs to do on offense in this thread.

The holes are not there vs the run for the iowa offense. There is to much of a quickness and agility gap between the iowa blockers and the wisc linebackers. Iowas only chance is a two step drop and quick release psssing game from stanley. But iowa wont even try to do that. Iowa did do that early in the 2015 season and it worked good. But then they went away from it for some reason.

Lol the bubble screen would be a terrible play vs wisc 3/4. Iowa wont even call a bubble screen vs wisc quick linebackers. They are not that dumb. They might try power sweep run plays if that is what you mean. But wisc linebackers will run that down after working maybe once or twice. The lineman wont have to run much early in the game do to three and outs again from the iowa offense. They may have to run some in the second quarter when iowa figures out their game plan is not working again. Fant and tj should be able to beat the wisky secondary but there will be to many plays when stanley will be under to much pressure for iowa to win.

As for iowa running game pulling wisc linebackers close to the line. Iowa will only get about 60 yards rushing in the first half so there will be no reason to bring the linebackers in closer. Dont forget iowa got like 66 yards total offense last year. I expect iowa to improve to about 240 total yards this year. Not enough to win.

Look, I am not a Wisconsin hater. I root for them when they aren't playing Iowa. But they are not going to sustain the level of success they have had the past few years. Their talent level is not that extreme. Other teams have had a hard time adapting to their scheme and Iowa is the poster child for that. In fairness, it isn't just Wiscy. Any team can get to our QB with a delayed A gap blitz or by overloading the A gap. There is no communication along the O line to react to what the D is doing. It is an example of the sum of the parts not being as good as the components. An O line has to be in sync and on the same page. Iowa's has not been lately.

"Top three quarterback",.... ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,..... breathe,..... ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,.... Hornibrook is a turnover waiting to happen and one of the the keys to beating Wisconsin this year...

At B1G media days there was a lot of chatter from the Wiscy writers that they may not be as good as the past few years. Lot's of questions on D. They've earned their reputation, but don't be surprised if they take a bigger step back. I see them losing a lot more this year including the Iowa game.
