How hot is Lovie Smith's seat?

Man............such a buzzkill! You can't see us (at least) getting to 6 wins to be bowl eligible? I'm turning my seasons tix back in. I'm gonna follow hockey.
Given some years, 5-7 can actually get them a bowl game. Unless the rules have changed or they eliminated some meaningless bowls.

You must not have heard... last year at Minnesota was Year Zero. This season will be year one.

Not sure how he got the natives to buy that, but he did with a fairly significant number of fans.

He's going to struggle again this season with a young qb. 5-7 is probably the max.

Make a solid point with qb. 3 teams in the West Illinois, minny and nebby all will have young inexperience qbs. How they play and progress will make a huge difference on how they do next year and beyond. Don’t care how much each respective fans base hypes them up who knows till we really see them in action. Point and case none of us had any clue on Stanley last year. Shakey first game not completing first pass till 2nd qtr with an int before that then follows it up with 300+ yds 5 tds on road next week. But one thing for sure he had his ups and downs like all 3 of these teams will sure to have but interesting to see how much any prove they belong like Stanley did last year. Meanwhile at this time last summer all I heard about was how one team had a manning camp mvp who would light up the big 10 but as we saw when games were played he didn’t live up to that hype.

Illinois has had some spotty AD work and an administration that quite simply made a lot of hiring errors for a long time. Their current situation was darn near 50 years in the making.

If they're smart, Lovie gets a long ass rope. They're arguably the worst program in the league right now. There's nowhere to go but up really. They need to give him a chance and for once, not descend back into the Zook/Beckman/Cubit chaos that destroyed the current era of the program.

I agree with this. They have stunk for a long time. Might be good to show some patience with Lovie. At least then when they hire the next guy they might get some good applicants if they demonstrate they can show patience in allowing a coach to build a program.

I agree. If Lovie gets 4 or more wins this season, I seriously doubt he’s fired. But he probably needs to get to .500 by year 4.

5-19 with an annual price tag of $4 million.
Ol' Doodle tries hard not to think about Lovie's seat. NTTAWWT.

Unless, of course, we're talking about THIS Lovey. Then....all bets are off.
