It depends on conditions, behavior and demands. Like I posted, my vehicle has a turbocharger which creates more heat and potentially more stress. If you drive at higher speeds, like interstate driving, or tow you are putting more stress by generating more heat which is the enemy of everything mechanical. Dirty or dusty conditions of course create potential issues if oil is not clean and filtered properly.
Maintaining the cooling system is often overlooked. Regular scheduled service takes care of this if you are an average driver using a vehicle as a primary driver. The once every 6 months or a year vehicle service runs the risk of inadvertent neglect.
Automakers should know what they're doing, and their recommendations should be adequate. I'm more cautious, and like NoleAtl said, you'll never be sorry changing oil too soon. I'm having Ford service the Bronco for the remainder of the general and drivetrain warranties.
I schedule engine service for <5000 intervals - not Ford's recommendations.
