How the hell was Iowa State 7-1?

So honestly they’re kind of the Iowa football of basketball. They win with defense and hustle. Not pretty on offense at all. But as we know in that other sport defense can take you pretty far. We were good tonight. Fast, physical and made shots. All you can say.
Iowa State’s strategy is to foul continuously and hope the refs don’t call them all. When the refs do their job, the Cyclones tend to struggle.
I watched them destroy Saint John's last weekend and the Johnnie's looked good on East Coast they are not trash. We made shots for once and our intensity was perfect.
They looked like complete shit. Someone tell kalsheur to stop shooting. Just have to match energy and toughness with them.

They beat St. John's, UNC and Villanova.
Iowa State has no offense. Never more apparent than tonight. Honestly, remarkably concerning how bad it was. Inability to shoot, really do anything tonight especially.
Credit to Iowa, but only so much. Bad is just bad sometimes. Iowa was probably playing its best game and Iowa State its worst, but Iowa still likely wins 8 or 9 of 10 this year.

Iowa State is dogshit. That has nothing to do with tonight's game or their team in general as much as in Iowa State is just dogshit.

We lost 51-36 to Oklahoma State AT HOME last year to end the regular season, if memory serves. Then, lost in Big 12 tournament to TTU by like 35. Then made the Sweet 16. Team makes no sense.

Got me. I haven't watched them this year. I would rather watch old videos of Iowa under Lickliter that watch a TJ Otzelberger-coached team. I enjoyed tonight because their asses got kicked.

I guess. I just don’t think Iowa is that good, especially without Kris Murray. Crazy how bad Iowa State looked tonight given their resume coming into this game.

Idk this is what ISU did to Iowa last year. Was just a one off. One team was more ready to play.

Teams get dead cat bounce when a key player goes down, circle the wagons and other guys know they have to do more. Not the first time it has happened.
First true road game for ISU. Kept doubling on defense and leaving Iowa open. Tonight, Iowa hit some open 3s (they didn't against Duke). Iowa's energy at the beginning of the game ... especially on defense was fun to see.
Iowa - IA State games are full of strange anomalies. This year and last year were no exceptions.
It was over in the first 12 minutes, after that it was a bit more competitive. ISU is not going to be able to come back from big deficits.
Yep, weird stuff happens in these games, and home court if the teams are any good, is a huge advantage it seems.

Just because ISU beat two "blueblood" programs doesn't mean they beat two good teams.

No way in a typical game Iowa goes 12/23 from 3. They probably won't repeat that shooting performance the rest of the season. Just enjoy that it happened tonight.

Hold your horses a tad. Iowa had twelve 3 pointers and most of Iowa State's front line was in foul trouble all night, especially Osun who is their best player. Not hard to imagine this game playing out a little differently if we shoot a little worse and the officials miss a few more foul calls.
That being said, I think ISU is going to have a pretty challenging year. They just don't have any real skill on this team. They start 3 guys who are trillionaire material in Kunc, Kalsheur, and Grill. Absolute zeroes on offense, nothing special on defense or rebounding.

It’s ok to give Iowa credit
Iowa State is very challenged offensively and Iowa is that good when they hit their 3's. When they don't they struggle.
In hindsight yes, but I kept thinking about Uthoffs 30 pt. Game, 20 pt. Halftime lead at ISU where we lost...
Felt pretty good after we extended the lead in the first 10 mins. If the 2nd half though, and more or less, it held.
Your not wrong, but that ISU had a ton of offensive firepower, this ISU team not close to that group.
Tony was at 100% tonight. A big plus for us.
