HWC out performs NLWC

He won a World Championship after going to the NLWC, after not making the team the 2 years prior while wrestling for the HWC.

This isn't an indictment of the HWC. They have put lots of great wrestlers on the World/ Olympic stage. Some people achieve more when they change things up.
You seem to forget he did not make the World Team in 2023 when he was a member of the NLWC and lost back to back matches to Richards.

I remember. I'm just pointing out that he did do better at NLWC than he did at HWC. Both are great programs. Sometimes a change of scenery is needed to get where you want to go.

There wasn't really a change in his wrestling/performance between the 2 clubs. It was a wash.
Probably the most impressive of Gilman's international career was in 2017, the first year when he came through the last chance qualifier, won the World Team Trials and went on to take silver at the World Championship. That was great coaching and great wrestling, by the HWC and Thomas.

I fail to see how 2nd is better than first, but everyone is different. Have a good day!

real woods choosing to leave iowa/hwc is unfortunate.
I agree that he will be missed...especially after hearing how much help he was with Spencer's training for the Olympics. I also think that now that he is gone, we move on and find another QUALITY wrestler to take his spot at the HWC. Maybe we can pick up one of the Olympic guys that were mentioned on this board previously as possible pickups ? Some fresh faces and some different styles would have to be of help for the program.

Woods stuck around for Spencer, his plans were always to move on to his own next venture. Michigan brings more networking towards his own goals and if he is to compete at 65 we have Desanto there so woods is moving on and I wish him the best.
