HWC to compete at the Schultz and Yargin this weekend: RESULTS

Gilman controlled and dominant tech. A couple singles a counter td a stiff arm to the face for a point step out and nice lefty knee pull for the tech.

Per Wrestling Nomad-
BIG one up next for Gilman. Quarterfinal with JR world champ Abasgadzhi Magomedov. Bout 27 on Mat B

Sounds like more IT issues. I'm hitting the sack. Appreciate those that will be providing updates that I'll read in a few hours.

I don't see wrestlers on any of the three mats right now....been that way for 5 minutes. Something wrong with my feed?

Just heard someone with a Russian accent on the stream asking for 15 minutes due to tech problems. Gotta work in the morning anyway. I'll take this as my opportunity to head to bed.

While you're waiting you can watch a live stream of the Grand Sumo tourney here :)
I've been watching the sumo wrestling for longer than I planned when I first clicked on the link. Good stuff. We complain about the time it takes to get a correct call on a review, but in sumo they spend way more time walking around slapping themselves and throwing rice or something, than actually wrestling. I am sure glad our delays are to make a correct call. But damn, has anyone ever brought in a sumo wrestler to work on pummeling and positioning with heavyweights.

Per Flo, Gilman is next on mat B. They had Colon wrong mat so if he isn’t going there, he will be next match on mat A.

3 more TDs for RUS. Gilman gets a TD and looks to expose. Gilman gets pinned after a reversal.

Green and Chamberlain both lose. Zane Richards still alive for repechage.

Thomas Gilman – 57 kg
WIN Alexei Alvarez Blanco (Cuba), 10-0
LOSS Abasgadzhi Magomedov (Russia), fall 5:57
Gilman qualified for wrestlebacks for bronze.

Cory Clark – 61 kg
Rd 1: Joe Colon tech fall over Cory Clark 10-0
Eliminated from the tournament.

Forrest Molinari – 65 kg
WIN Sakhipjamal Aleuatdinova (Uzbekistan), fall 1:37

Not that the Russians probably care but does anyone else think it is a crock of shit that Clark goes halfway around the world and has to wrestle Colon? They could’ve done that in Waverly and saved everyone the hassle. Just seems odd to me.
That could have, but haven’t, and won’t.

The pace of Sumo is much different than most modern sport because they keep the old traditions and forms alive. I think this is kind of a blessing and a curse for the sport and prevents it from gaining more popularity in some circles. That said, I love that stuff. The shiko (stomping) and salt throwing is fun to watch. As for the grappling, that's the heart of Sumo. Whether it's oshi-zumo (pushing/thrusting) or yotsu-zumo (belt techniques) hand-fighting and getting to your favored technique and executing is an area where Sumo and wrestling greatly overlap.
