I’m a Fran guy but I do always wonder..

Fran doesn't like thick guys. He thinks adding too much muscle results in people losing quickness. Basabe put on 20 pounds one year and lost his quickness. Came back much lighter the next year. Didn't Garza also lose weight before his senior year. To an extent I kind of agree with Fran. I'd prefer quickness over strength in the game of basketball.

Why we always look like stick boys compared to the teams we play. Other than Perk, every guy gets shoved and pushed off their spots constantly. Other than the lack of commitment to defense it would be nice if Fran got pushed on why our guys seem to struggle to make gains in the weight room. Do our guys lift?
It's a combination of factors.

The core of most teams are in-state guys. Iowa doesn't produce too many physical freaks on the BB court.

The out of state guys that choose not to stay in-state has lots of choices - Iowa doesn't float to the top very often

Fran values "length" over size, it appears, when he does get an out of state guy.

Fran seems to be just a good enough recruiter to get kids to visit, but not good enough to land them.

Not saying that we shouldn’t read the sweet 16. We have to get higher seeds every year and that will help. I know we lost games being a high seed now and then. We seem to always be 5-6 or lower which matches you with a 1-3 seed soon in the tournament. Have to do better in the Big Ten regular season.
Good point. By seedings, there’s only 1 year (last year) when we should have reached the Sweet 16, right?

Not excusing the drought, but it’s not like we’re doing Purdue things every year.

^^^^^^^

Gary Barta's base.

You want to know why Iowa basketball has been nationally irrelevant for the last 30+ years?

This is it. Period.

Fans who buy tickets to watch the lads try hard. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it but...why should the admin change a thing when your base is perfectly content?

Are you not entertained?! Why ...yes, Gary. We are. Here's our money.

lol
You left out the part where we need Iowa boys littered throughout the roster.

What does anyone's personal contribution to the Swarm matter, boomer?

smh

Maybe time for a nap.
Well, maybe a nap would help me recover from your stinging insults. You are a very clever poster.

Why exactly are you a "Fran guy"? He has actually accomplished nothing in 13 years at Iowa except the one big ten tournament win, a game that Purdue couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. He has literally accomplished nothing else.

Nobody wants KF fired, just his son. And Lisa? She’s not even talked about with a star player in CC3 on her roster.
Huh? Search the archives. A lot of people have called for Kirk and Lisa to be fired after down seasons. Lisa especially when she scuffled a few seasons, and was struggling to recruit. Something she has rectified.

I just walked back into game central (i.e. my man cave) as I stepped away for a few minutes. I think (I just caught the end of it with no context) I heard a Tennessee player attributing this quote to Rick Barnes, TN Head Coach: "If you're not going to guard, you're not going to play son".

True'er words have never been spoken. Certainly by Fran, that's for sure.

Attendance has not been that great the last few years. I know a lot of families have other commitments and game times kind of suck during the week, but I believe if they were better, there would be more people in the seats.

Seedings don’t matter. Kentucky as a six seed is a three point favorite over Kansas State as a 3 seed. Do we think Kentucky fans are going to be fine with losing because they were seeded three spots below them?!?
Iowa would have been a four to five point favorite against a very average providence team that was a four seed last year. That was an amazing draw for iowa.

Agree, last year was the year.

I shouldn’t have said average Providence team. They were better than that. But my goodness compared to playing a Tennessee or UConn as four seeds this year, give me the Friars all day.
It was our shot though, which is quite depressing. This next year will not be much fun.

It was definitely our shot. Kansas was not unbeatable. Hell, a heavily injured nine seeded Creighton had the ball down a point under two minutes against Kansas in the round of 32.
