I’m jealous….

When a big money donor writes a huge check like the OSU fellow, it's easier to make a move and in this case there was really no risk, high reward. With a successful coach like Brands it's much harder to just fire a guy and bring in an unproven commodity even though many think he'll do a better job.

i dont' think its fair to judge off a few social media pics...i'm sure the facility is awesome and will be a great training environment moving forward

the problem i have is that we still have people say hawkeyes don't have the money to keep up

spending that much on a facility PROVES (h/t to msu) that the financial capacity is there among donors and fans...its just a matter of what the hawkeye leadership chooses to spend that money on
Exactly, OSU was obviously in the position to make a move and had a donor write a big check.

Improvements and adjustments are needed, but a new head coach is not.
The driving force right now is money plain and simple. I donate do you? Do the rest of the spineless assholes that think the ship is sinking.
I can tell you this, for a fact. The reasons the game has changed is money driven, if I had stupid money we would have all the recruits TnT needed to be in the running for a championship every year.
Donors have taken the lead roll is the sport of wrestling now, it used to be only football and basketball.
Yes you have to have great coaching which we have, but changes are needed.
It flat out doesn’t matter how much money you throw at a recruit if that recruit doesn’t think you will help them reach their objectives. 2 people have won NCAA individual championships in the last ten years at Iowa. That’s the definition of not helping a recruit reach their goals. More money won’t change the opinion that is forming or has already formed about Tom and terry’s ability to produce individual champions. Saying anything else is just not right. The time to make changes was this offseason, and we didn’t. Now we can wave to ok st as they pass us again for relevance.

Pretty soon the foundation that Gable built will become irrelevant. It may be that way already. I mean top ten recruits are going to psu knowing that they will have to change weight or sit just for the chance at winning a championship.

There is not another college facility in the country better than the new Hawks facility. I 10000% guarantee that. Once recruits start getting in and seeing it, then it will be a game changer.
Hahahaha. What’s more important to high level competitors….winning or where they train. I laughed because I assumed that your post was a joke.

Talk to any insider and they will tell you money is not the problem. We're hands down the best fan supported program in wrestling. We don't have massive donors but we trail only Penn St. when it comes to program finding.

The argument that Iowa Wrestling doesn't have enough money and support is beyond absurd and you need to delete your post and come up with something better.
You better talk to some different insiders on the money part.
The HWC fundraises pretty solid but there isn't a butt load of money available.
And there are more schools than you realize that are ahead of us in the NIL department.

Hahahaha. What’s more important to high level competitors….winning or where they train. I laughed because I assumed that your post was a joke.
You can't be serious. The answer is BOTH. High level competitors want to be pushed and coached on a high level. Also, they want to train in nice facilities with great resources. If you think a high level athlete/recruit is not looking at the facilities then you do not know anything about division 1 college athletics.

Phil is bleeding company red.

it IS an amazing facility. six stacked mats, training room, sauna - the tunnel is pretty damn cool.

It's just that for the price tag... It's underwhelming. and the big joke everyone is making about no windows is a real deal. You literally spent $24 mil to make a sex dungeon? The no natural lighting is wild and weird decision.
1. Phil doesn't bleed.
2. Phil hates the color red.
3. Phil hates windows more than he does the color red.
4. Phil likes dungeons, you can keep the sex part though.
5. Phil realizes he is an old fart, as his room in HS was literally a dungeon with no windows and he loved it. It was his happy place....
6. Phil is weird.
7. Be like Phil.

What I mean is pretty simple. Most of the recruits Iowa psu Ohio st mich ok at are going after value winning and getting better more than they do a nice facility. The new facility helps, but it’s by far not the most important factor. Especially when considering that those other schools I mentioned also have nice facilities. Maybe not as nice as ours.

Got ya. Understood what you mean now. I think having a top notch facility for sure helps in the recruiting war. I have my own personal recruiting fix that I think Iowa should do, but oh well, what do I know LOL.

The facility is unbelievable from what I hear. Possibly the top facility in the country and that's coming from a very good source. Who gives a shit that it does not have windows for natural light, neither does Penn State room but you don't hear anyone complaining about that.
I agree. The place is even more bad ass than I hoped it would be. It's not supposed to look like a planet fitness, it's supposed to be a world class wrestling facility.

Then someone, anyone, needs to have a talk with this dept to promote this and put out good and exciting press. Good and exciting press about anything.

I have no doubt it's amazing, but those first images that dropped on social media were pathetic and doomed the launch in the eyes of most of that wrestling community (outside of Iowa anyways).

Our marketing campaign is abysmal.
Our program needs to have a serious talk with the women's bball marketing head and take notes.
Right, the publicity seems to lock on the fact there are no windows.

Does Phil like to mix arm & hammer with his coke?

If your kid was a top 20 High school recruit, and his main goal is to win an NCAA championship—and he could go anywhere, where would you want him to go? Even though I am an Iowa fan, there is no doubt I’d want him to goto Penn State, even if it cost me a lot more $. Now maybe even OSU based on hope. Sorry, but it’s true.

I'm focusing on the wrong thing, but it seems to me that you really really like sexless dungeons.

And idk how we're supposed to feel about that.

I’ll take this one……. IOWA. That’s why he’s here.

dude i think you make some solid posts but this facility stuff you are talking is pure nonsense and it has been from the start

Either 1/2 of you is 83% hood or 83% of you is 100% hood. No other possibilities are available in the cesspool.
Dammit. You know I can’t do math…… why would you do this to me? You know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted and you have to do this??? I got feelings ya know? What does this even mean? I’m goin dark again …… wait, I don’t mean “dark” like my skin tone, that’s gonna happen anyway, I tan really well. Just didn’t want to offend any softies thinking I just made a race joke. Even though I did.

Admit it, you people missed me…. And yes, I totally mean YOU people.

All I’m saying is I love it. That’s my opinion. I would have loved to train in a place like this. Seriously. That’s just my opinion. Some will like it. Some won’t. Once it’s open people will decide on their own. It’s different. But I’ve always said, “dare to be different and you will succeed”.

Word is they have promised DT a 40 million dollar new facility. Haven’t seen ours yet but just looks like a large concrete bunker. We wasted well over a million on the tunnel that could have put in more WOW bells and whistles. Weight room doesn’t look like it has much more than the current one. The lockers in the new OSU facility will probably rival what we have all seen in football locker rooms like Alabama, Texas, Oregon. That is the WOW a recruit will see. I am waiting for my tour in the next week or so and will reserve further thoughts. But I agree with those that are ridiculing us on social media would have been nice to get a design with some windows for the room.

Tom said that in his flo interview. Basically, the people in the facility is what’s important, but you need to keep up with the jones with facilities also. Football is always doing this, and it doesn’t take long for a top facility to become obsolete. I thought someone said OkSt is planning a 40 million facility? Even pathetic Illinois wrestling program is building a pretty nice facility.

A new head coach is needed because this one ain't improving OR making adjustments. Bob told us the playing field is level, remember that? So stop blaming it on money because we have more than PSU.

And the worst part? TNT aren't adjusting a motherfluffing thing.
When a billionaire tells you it's not about money and the playing field has been leveled, it's been leveled. The problem hasn't been money for a long time. As @vhsalum has been saying, and I have been if you read my posting history, it's about everything but money.

The new Okie State Facility was in the works before DT arrived.

Great but mats are mats and the important thing is who on them. We are way behind psu and now barely hanging on to Michigan, Ohio state and ok state will be a problem. It’s the coaches and $.
