I am over the playoff rankings, worse than BCS

Why do you care? We still have two games left, the rankings don't mean squat right now, we could lose both games and then what, you'll look like a little bitch.

Would you rather play Alabama or Clemson?

At this point? Alabama. I think Clemson is the clear #1 right now. I'm hoping for a doomsday scenario where Iowa comes out on top going into the playoffs though. FSU beats Florida, Florida beats Alabama, North Carolina beats Clemson, Stanford beats Notre Dame, Iowa beats Nebraska then MSU, Okie State beats Oklahoma, TCU beats Baylor, and USC gets revenge against Stanford in the PAC 12 championship. Suicide rate goes up in the South. Iowa, Ohio State, North Carolina, and Oklahoma State rocking NYE.

Herbstreit continues to make excuses for Notre Dame concerning all their injuries. Obviously he hasn't paid any attention to Iowa as they have suffered several injuries throughout the year. Losing BOTH tackles from the offensive line for a 2 games. Each RB has been dinged up and missed time. Drew Ott, by far our best defensive lineman, gone for the year. AND a QB that has been operating with a groin pull and hip injury since the third game of the season. Somehow, the Hawkeyes played through all these injuries and have managed to go 11-0.

Notre Dame has suffered "key" injuries....I think the injuries are based on star ratings.

I just don't get it. I think they need to have a metric to help them. The committee is obviously lost and out of their minds. I mean they are keeping a 9-2 stanford team at #9, meanwhile 9-2 NW (who beat Stanford) is sitting at 17. How is that possible?

Wisky has 3 losses (#2 Bama, #4 Iowa, and #17 NW) and they are out of the top 25, meanwhile Ole miss is like 18? WTF

Sorry but the committee has lost me on this. The whole playoff thing w/4 teams is stupid. They need to change it to the top 8 or 10 (conference champs get auto bid) and take some at-large teams.

I don't know what to do, but this committee is all over the board.

Change the playoff to 8 teams and then eliminate a Christmas break....that doesn't seem to click.

While I agree with you on the fact that the committee (and ESPN) for some reason love themselves some Stanford (which I don't know why), I think the difference between Stanford and NW is the NW got absolutely smoked in their 2 losses while Stanford has a 2 point loss to a now healthy Oregon in addition to the season opening loss to NW.

The BCS was ridiculed for for being a formula based ranking system that had no judgment.

Now we have a committee that uses judgment to pick the teams, and it's now being ridiculed.

Impossible situation is impossible.

Fantastic! Hell I was just hoping for Okie St and TCU to win so the big 12 would be left out yet again.

Alabama has one win over teams in the CFP 25. Someone needs to explain to me why they are considered this unbeatable juggernaut. Stanford has two losses - one of them an equal record NW that they get a hall pass for. The pundits are still considering them a hopeful for the playoff if they beat out Notre Dame and a 3 loss or more USC/UCLA. Oklahoma gets a hall pass for losing as mentioned to a Texas that got shut out by Iowa State.

The BCS had inequities based upon computers that are programmed by humans with the same biases the CFP committee has.

No matter what system you use, there are going to be inequities. The one thing the CFP has over the BCS is there's another game available for however they choose it to better how it's all settled.

Really gets annoying how blue bloods get a mulligan. OU escape from TCU warrants a move to number 3. Give me a break. Bama at 2 with a loss to a 3 loss team. The committee is all about strength of being a blue blood.

It'd be easy to make it 8 in theory. Each power 5 conference champ is in. One auto bid from the other 5 or whatever they are calling them, and two at large. No conference could really complain at that point.

This year you could have the conference title games on Dec. 5 and the first round on December 12, played at the higher seeded team home field (this could be the sticking point for southern teams agreeing). Those 8 set up the bowl games and the rest proceeds as usually with the final four at two bowls, the losers split amongst the other major bowls, and the championship played a week after the bowls. You'd still have a Christmas break from the 12 through 31st, which would be the same as now essentially, and it wouldn't cost half of the fan bases much more because the first round is on a campus.

They passed the eye test ;)

The more things that screw up the system and expose its flaws the better.
Force them to expand the playoffs.
No reason it can't be like the FCS, which now has 24 teams.
Eliminate one of the crappy non-con games on the schedule and return to 11 game regular seasons.
And, yeah, the garbage bowls could still stay and would be just as worthless as they are now pitting two 6-6 teams against each other.
Want excitement, how about the chance for a 15th or 16th ranked team knocking off a 1 or 2 in their own house?

I like the fact Iowa still has a lot of incentive to win.

The fact that this board can even talk about the CFP is awesome! Go Hawks!

I understand the need for human judgement calls. All I want is consistency. Every team has a bad game...so Alabama, Oklahoma and Stanford get a pass on a bad game. Is it OK to have a bad game at the beginning of the season, but not at the end of the season? Maybe Iowa should get a pass on the Wisconsin game also. Hell, if Iowa didn't have a bad game, we would have beat them by 30-40 points.

Next point, you have to use some comparative analysis. If team A beats team B, and team B beats team C, then team A is probably better than team C. Ultimately, you have to throw this bad game crap out the window. Every game counts

The biggest problem is there is no definition of what their criteria is for picking. Is it who has the most 4 & 5 star players and wins most of their games, is it who has the most exciting offense, is it who is from the ESPN anointed conference, is it who is the hottest team this week(or at the end of the season). They want to use the "Eye Ball" test...which is code word for them picking who they want based on their gut feelings, with a little bias sprinkled in (see Stanford).

Bottom line, be consistent in defining which teams get in, so in the future, teams understand the importance of needing to beat the crap out of teams, score 70 points a game, win games at the end of the season, and that it is better to be from the SEC than any other conference.

You guys don't really think your actually gonna make the CFP do you? Awwwww that's sweet, you all really did...

1. You won't beat NU on Friday

2. If you would happen to beat NU, tOSU or MSU will absolutely throttle you in the Big10 championship.

This is gonna be the funniest thing to watch all year when you guys get destroyed by some teams that finally have a pulse.

Also, nice locker room music dance video after beating freaking Purdue...Seriously, It's Purdue... NU put out one of those videos, except they beat the #6 team in the nation prior to doing it.

Did they clinch the B1G West after they lucked out against the #6 team in the nation?

Its cute that you found Rivals.com and made a post. Congrats. Here is a couple of tips for your 2nd post:

First off, since you are new and uninformed, the Hawks clinched the division championship by beating Purdue. BTW, the same Purdue that beat you guys.

Secondly, if you are going to make a declaratory statement as you did in #1, backing off of it in #2 makes you wishy-washy.

Good luck in all your future trolls.

Don't understand the push for 8 teams. Half would be from the sec
Agreed. I'd rather go to 4 super conferences. Big 10 champ vs Pac 12 champ in the Rose. Sec vs Big 12Acc in the Sugar or Orange. National Championship rotates between Atlanta, Dallas Indy and Phoenix.

Oh man, just the responses I was looking for... NU has a new coach, and has a roster that was managed by retards prior to the new regime, I could give two sh*ts about what NU's record is this year...

Congrats on playing the weakest schedule in the nation...seriously though, I really do hope you beat NU, just so it's that much bigger of a punch in the nuts when you get throttled in the Big10 title game....

IOWA will never play in a playoff. What's worse, is Iowa has played this dog Crap schedule, and you have only managed an average margin of victory of less than 2 TD's.... Who the hell schedules North Texas State and Panera Bread and then wants respect later when people say they havnt played a team worth a lick???? Iowa does...

Listen here, little man. I wish Nebraska was good. You're the reason the pundits have been saying our remaining schedule sucks for weeks! Nebraska is giving the B1G a bad name. Get better.

You think MSU and tOSU will destroy Iowa, but these teams have struggled with Northern Illinois, Nebraska, Purdue, Indiana (backup QB) and Rutgers. Not a very safe bet.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! There has not been one person in this nation outside of an Iowa ass clown who's said that, Nebraska is the only legit game you have on your entire schedule.... You wanna talk about struggle? Purdue and North Texas State are the only team you havnt struggled with...

Oh it is hilarious how good you all think Iowa is...

Bye bye playoff wet dream....

Ol' Doodle is the last person who would want to short-circuit a good rant. But Iowa's reality (and let's face it, that's all any of us really care about) is excruciatingly simple:
  • 2 wins and we're in.
  • 1 loss and we're out.
The End.

There is absolutely no nuance to our situation. None.

We will not, under ANY circumstances, get into the College Football Playoff with a loss. 100% guaranteed. It will never happen. Like it or not, this is a fact that is utterly and completely irrefutable.

So all this hand wringing and teeth gnashing over who is getting ranked where and why and how could Team A jump Team B, and so on....oh sure, it's fun to debate in the abstract, just as long as we take part in this exercise with the full acknowledgement that it all has exactly zero impact on Iowa.
