I am so mad at that Franek match.

Another thing, the room full of guys with me all had a simultaneous thought. It will be first time in DECADES that we're not watching the Penn State match. Never thought I'd heard that.

If I hear there is something worth watching later, I'll check the recording.

I was out with family tonight but recorded the Hawks on the B10 network. When I got home I turned on the tube, which of course was set to the B10 network and they were showing the last highlight at HWT and the final score. I haven't watched anything but know that we got demolished 20 something to 11. Based on your post I'm thinking we won at 25, 41 and 97. WTF happened tonight?!? If Michigan can do this to us I'm frightened to see what will happen against PSU. I thought we were turning the corner but clearly some of our fellas missed the turn and ran right off a f'ing cliff. I'm shocked...speechless. Wife calling me now so guess will watch the beatdown in the morning...and then start bitching.

Ayala couldn't finish multiple shots. Let the guy tie up his legs every time. Then gets ponied in overtime.

Woods must have been sick lately. Completely dominated and overpowered by a true freshman. Actually, he was pinned . . . just not called. It was not a fluke match. Woods was fully outwrestled.

I can't even utter another descriptor about the Franek match.

Kennedy was manhandled and ponied by Griffith. Even put on his back.

We didn't even score an offensive point in the first half of the lineup.

WOKE UP thinking about this same thing!!! as messed up the entire match was, the one time I got up and almost put my fist through the TV was the Franek match. My daughter even came down stairs and says what's wrong, my wife says "the Hawks are losing and dad is mad" daughter says to my wife "I should have known that".
There are ten ways he could have rode that easily for 5 seconds, he was shot and had nothing to even grab on!

Woods has been sick. That's why he missed last weekend.

25 and 57 they didnt deserve the W with the way they wrestled. Absolute garbage! Both should have had multiple stall calls on them.
And Glazier, what a story with this kid. Phenomenal

I'm too much a diehard Hawk not to watch but I know we'll get drilled. Doubt we win three weights next weekend.

Lewan is the human remote control. Whenever he wrestles the channel gets turned. Disgusting he is allowed to wrestle that way. Probably more so at home than away with any type of crowd.
My wife is pretty knowledgable about wrestling. She said Lewan made one feeble shot and Franek got to hos leg six or seven times. Why no second stall call? I told her that would happen before the match started. That is not wrestling and boring to watch.

14 points for Michigan from transfers last night. 3 points for Iowa. Good the Michigan singlets were camo colored because you couldn't tell that was a Michigan team.

This has me wondering.....is there ANY word/phrase/topic for which there is NOT a gif? Can someone please post a "shit the bed" gif? I mean, this is a cesspool and it seems timely now.
You can do it yourself aswell Trapper85. Hit the three little dot button to the right of the little mountains in the box. Then select GIF. Search for whatever you are looking for.. you may not not find exactly what you want but you can come close.

I think you're right. That is what I've become.

I donate monthly to HWC, and this year will be 30 years in a row I've gone to NCAAs. I was even at the year we won Nattys when just a few people in each section were allowed because of covid. Somehow, we got in.

But I'm sad to say I've had it. The Hawks have wore me out. I was there when they made the 170 point record. Actually, I was in the front row at the Uni-Dome. But this is my last year.

The last 14 years have just been brutal to someone completely spoiled by the Gable years. And spoiled I was. Even when we won the last one, only Spencer won, and Penn State had 4 champs, with three of ours losing in the final. It was a pyrrhic victory in substantial ways.

I also think Spencer's loss last year, and now just going every year to just watch the lions win for the foreseeable future, has robbed all my enthusiasm for it. The gambling gut punch didn't help. And I'm not looking forward to the potential worse circus of having the Ferraris actually in the black singlet either. Perhaps it's also because I'm in my sixties now. Perhaps because of how hard it is to get enough tickets contributed. I don't know, maybe after all I've seen and invested I have the right to be a fair weather fan. Some fair weather instead of the storms sounds good.

The overtime rules are still questionable.

Franek loses that because 1 second of riding time difference in OT. Shitty

He was by far more active than Lewan who should have had a stall point called on him. Franek deserved another 30 seconds on their feet to score.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I do not blame him. I would compare the offensive strategy of most of the Iowa wrestlers to that of a Ferentz coached football offense. I LOVE to watch wrestling. I hardly recognize it anymore. Boring as hell. I record, then scroll until I see anything resembling a legitimate shot.

Both teams wrestled four transfers. Exact same. Are you bagging on Michigan because their transfers actually won??

Honest to god, if wrestling were a fair sport, all refs should hit Lewan with his first stall call at the hand shake. Even Mich fans are tortured watching him. The sad thing is he is a skilled wrestler, just in need of a total brain transplant.

Lewan in neutral reminds me of a 90 year old Asian, deaf, blind, woman trying to make a left hand turn at a 4 lane intersection where there is no traffic light. She might just pull the trigger by 2:00 a.m. if the are no cars on the road.

Can I still say that, is it racist or does it have a shred of truth?

Preach it. All fans at some point have these feelings in a down turn and I felt the absolute sincerity and pain as I read your words. I’ve been there and lived to see better days. Stay the course my friend. I envy your 30 years of Nationals and would hate to see you lose something you love. I suspect the Hawks will be a force again after Brands leaves. Frankly speaking, Tom is too old to change so just weather the storm until it passes. Sunshine always follows the rain.

Yep. I hate watching him stand around for seven minutes and never get dinged,
all i was thinking before the whistle was just grab the ankles and take a stall call on the 5 count right away.
Any Jr. High kid can do that for four seconds.
In the PBP thread someone said "might as well start in OT", that's an experienced fan right there.
I told my friend I was messaging with, I guarantee this next match will go OT."
How can a 6th year senior not have enough mat awareness to drop down on a leg for 5 seconds and take the stalling call?
If you get a reasonable answer to that hypothetical, let us all in on it.

I feel you brother. My streak ended in Pittsburgh, at 31 in a row and 34 of 35 because I couldn't get tickets through Iowa (don't get me started on that) and I missed St. Louis. I spent money I didn't have to go see Spencer win his fourth, and the only redeeming thing about that was watching PSU lose three finals. I decided a month ago that I'm not making either trip (B1Gs or NCAAs) this year for multiple reasons, but unless we start putting a competitive team on the mat, I have better places to spend my money. I'll have four TVs set up at home and watch every Iowa match, but I'll only be wasting a B1G+ and ESPN+ subscription price to watch us get stomped and PSU run away with titles. This has nothing to do with last Friday night, we've had blips like that before, but the whole state of the program is disheartening. I'll never be a fair weather fan, but this is too much to take.

History is instructive. Every great empire disintegrates and it usually occurs over a good number of years. The Iowa Natty after COVID probably extended the T@T run for a few extra years, but, now the gig looks just about over. While getting on the podium is good enough at almost every school, it does not thrill the faithful at Iowa. The new AD must be hearing the rumbling, shaking, and crumbling support. Every organization reaches the point where change is required. It’s not really much of a gamble to bring in an exciting new coach who can rebrand (no pun intended) the program. More funk. Less regimented drills! More emphasis on “O”. Bring in a guy like Nolf or M.Hall and the fans will become optimistic quickly.

A commitment to be proud of. Unwanted outsider take: Imagine fans of a university centered in America’s most fertile region of HS wrestling talent envying a mat dynasty 800 miles away they could never compete with . . . until they could.
Yes, PSU/Sanderson is a juggernaut rivaling Iowa/Gable. Until Cael retires or recruiting levels out, maybe team titles by other schools only happen every few years. With the portal, NIL, or no room at the Lion inn, this mid-60s guy thinks Iowa will always be the team most likely to disrupt Lion title streaks. Aided by stalwart fans like you.
For what it’s worth, Hawks get their share of credit on cocky HVI for gritty success in a turbulent season. Much respect shown for Glazier, who sent Birdboy back to his body oil and mirror and seems primed for a well-earned AA.

If you look at all the great sports dynasties, they are often followed by a long period of staleness if the coach lasts beyond their expiration date. We see it in football and in wrestling. JRob lasted beyond his expiration date and paid the price. So did Woody Hayes and JoePa in football. Currently, John Smith is the poster child in wrestling. A great wrestler and coach, but isn't keeping up with the times and it shows. I would say Brands may be there too but he is young enough to change if he is capable of it. Many in their 50's are not. He certainly sees the urgency as shown by his recruitment of Ferrari, but the real change in Iowa will not come with new faces or a new facility but with new philosophy that matches what the current kids are looking for.

Almost every coach as they get older loses the pulse of the new generation of kids. The only one that never lost it was John Wooden. An incredible multi-generational coach in a major sport.
