Just a few weeks ago many were saying if we finished 4th or 5th we couldn't make the tourney lol. Funny how a couple games can change peoples opinions :)

Go get em hawks!

How dare anyone think that a team that's 14-13(6-8) not gonna make the tournament. Especially with road games against two of the top three teams coming up. Everyone should have seen that coming.

I got to be honest. I was thinking Iowa was gonna have a hard time making the NIT a few weeks ago as we came up short time and again during that losing streak. I was hoping for an NIT mircale until the MD game and then I started getting higher hoops. Never stoped cheering though. We could be 0-30 and as long as we're competing I won't tune out.

I'm talking about before we had even played MN.
I don't think we were talking about Iowa finishing 4th when they were 6-8.....were we.

Atta boy... don't ever stope hooping for a mircale!

Way back then, Iowa still had a chance to make the tournament without winning these last three. I think the entire Big Ten was being talked about as only getting four teams in. MSU, Illinois, Michigan then started playing themselves into the tournament discussion.

But yes, I remember people talking about a fourth place finish being jumped by a fifth place team. Iowa could finish in a tie for fifth and still not make it.

This whole thing is another lesson that none of us knows Jack.

I'm right there with my Minnesota prediction. I said I'd be shocked if they finished .500 or better in the Big Ten. We'll, I'm shocked. I was wrong. I am stunned a team that struggled so much on and off the court last year, and brought in a guy with legal issues just last May, made it through the season intact!

I guess I'll have to wait a little longer for the explosion, or getting caught cheating, or whatever it takes. I just know Minnesota is going to blow itself up from the inside eventually.

As to the NCAA Tourney, we haven't made it yet. But dang if we haven't made a show of trying! And this last week? It has been some kind of run. You know, if we beat Penn State three of the last five years we'll have had second half finishes in the Big Ten of 6-3, 7-2, 6-3! Sure, we remember the collapse and the tough ending last year, 3-6 and 4-5. But isn't it odd, how we often think there is some "tradition" of falling apart?

Probably has to do with some tough results in the BTT. Well, there is no denying our record there has been bad. Maybe this year, we change that.

But what we'll never change, is none of us really knows Jack. :) It's ok, it's our job to act like we do.

I may misunderstand your point but heading into the Minnesota game which was game 12 of the B1G we were 6-5 not 6-8.

I do not recall many if any saying if we finished 4th or 5th we would not make the tourney. Most were trying to say that a 10-8 or possibly even a 11-7 record in the B1G may not be enough to make up for an 8-5 non-con with a bad loss to Omaha and 1 decent win over ISU which at the time was floundering themselves until beating Kansas. I think that was a reasonable assertion. And yes at 6-8 in league with road games remaining at Maryland and Wisconsin that looked pretty daunting to most. Not sure what your point is on this thread other than it's amazing what this team has been able to do these last couple of games to at least get themselves into consideration for an at-large bid.

Actually dan, I do know Jack. Mixed with coke, he is quite good and has done good things for me.

Your comment on the last five years is quite interesting. Isn't it funny how we tend to focus on the negative rather than the positive? It is human nature.

You weren't that far off. If they lose today, they finish .500 in conference. I picked them 8-10 and I'm not shocked that they can finish 10-8. I'm shocked that they are closing the season like this. Shocked in a good way.

Obviously it wasn't likely, but I will never understand the people who come out and say things like "no chance at making the tournament" or "only way is to win BTT" when there was still clearly a possibility for an at large bid.
