I hate it when Iona makes the tournament.

amen. It inevitably leads to this one second of excitement, disappointment, and sigh of relief (that we don't have to play whatever highly seeded team they have to play in round 1).

Ricky Davis and Dean Oliver's freshman year when Iowa was on the bubble. Selection Sunday announces Iona in the field right towards the end of the team announcements. Happy joy turns to sorrow all within 2 seconds.

Fun trivia for those of you who remember the tv show Happy Days.....Arnold's drive-in, where the characters mainly hung out, had college pennants hanging on the walls; both Iona and Iowa were featured, but Iona's was hanging higher up on the wall and easier to see during most episodes.

Lute was a little upset back in the day when Iona made news for some infraction, and there were some who thought it was Iowa. I don't remember the details. Maybe frydaze can help out here.

Lol! I just spent 20 minutes checking this out on Google Images.

I never saw the Iowa pennant originally, but remember my minor disappointment when I realized after a number of episodes that the Iona pennant said just that and not "Iowa."

Now when I checked it out all I saw was the Iowa pennant, so I was questioning myself, my recollection, and my sanity. After more searching I found the following where you can clearly see Iowa's and what has to be "Iona" despite Chachi's head - never did like that character.

Oh yeah, that silly little NY college has been a bur in my side for a long, long time now.

Richie's older brother Chuck was retro-actively erased from having existed.

He was a mistake.

That's how you had to "fix" mistakes back in the 50's.

Speaking of basketball that was supposed to be his sport of choice, completing his "dumb jock" persona.

Amen, friends, but not for the same reason. :)

Iona is hated by me as a Siena fan, much more so than for you and your "Most Hated Rivals" Purdue.

As a fellow MAAC conference team, I HAAAAAAATTTTEEEEE Iona. Moreso than any other team in the conference.

Why? Because they always have our number in the conference tourney.

Good team, this year and years past, and I give them their due props.

But, man...I hate that team.

Best!

This Happy Days discussion raises an important question. Which Jewish-American performer better portrayed a second/third generation Italian-American? Henry Winkler or Andrew Dice Clay?

Both worthy choices, but my vote goes to Boner Stabone. Dude's dad was Chekov! Fake Russian to fake Italian in one generation.
