I hope Caitlin transfers her last year

I think the rise of UCONN greatly impacted what she was able to accomplish at Rutgers. Still successful, but not what she was heading towards at Iowa.
Look at Stringer's career at Rutgers. She's had a ton of success at Rutgers, even if the program has fallen off most recently.

4 conference titles
2 Final Four appearances (1 title game)
8 Sweet 16 appearances
5 Elite 8 appearances
17 total NCAA tournament appearances

The last 7 years have definitely seen a downtick for Rutgers women's program, but wow what a career in the years prior to that and at Iowa and Cheyney. Great coach and very good recruiter, which is what you need to win in college.

I would not shed a tear if Bluder retired. She's a good coach but kind of like Tom Davis. The program has yet to really reach ELITE status. A few BTT titles and an Elite E appearance.

However, if she ever figures out how to coach rebounding/defense she could take Iowa to Elite status. She is great in that she is recruiting well recently and the players want to play for her. But it seems every team has the same issues year after year.
I see where you are going with the Davis analogy, but don't think it's very fair. Bluder just in the last 7 years has made 2 Sweet 16's and an Elite 8. Those are 3 great years out of 7. Davis didn't make a Sweet 16 after his initial run with Roy, Eddie, BJ for 12 years until his final lame-duck year in 1999. She also won a Big Ten Tournament title in 2019.

It's not a matter of coaching rebounding or defense at this point, I'm sure she knows how to do that. It's recruiting better athletes. When Iowa plays an Ohio State, Maryland, UConn, etc., it's like watching the JV vs the varsity from an athletic standpoint. Bluder has a roster full of skilled basketball players who are way outclassed athletically. It's made for a good (and sometimes very good) program, but they are going to run into serious problems when they play a team that is nearly as skilled as they are, but far superior athletically.

Yeah, I didn’t mean my post to sound like a dig at her - obviously she’s been great. Geno‘s dominant run over the early ‘00s thru 2010 or so imo really stunted the development of womens hoops. Really put a ceiling on what other programs could do because they could be the #2 team in a given year, and you still knew they were going to lost to UCONN by 20. They even changed from two halves to four quarters largely at Geno’s insistence.

we’re finally getting to a point where the talent is getting to more programs, making everything more exciting. It’s not a coincidence imo that the Iowa women have had their success the last four years.

Iowa is terrible at those 3 things because they have little size other than Monica who can’t defend or rebound either, and very little athleticism. It’s just the type of players that are recruited- maybe the class coming in will help to get some athleticism on the wings/inside, but really need help at guard for Caitlin
The fact that there is someone 6-4" on the bench that played the 4 all the way through high school leaves me very frustrated. Both the Michigan and Mariland late game runs came with her in there. I would like to see them at least test playing her at the 4 for a bit while Warnock is out.

I like Monica's scoring and maybe Addison would/could score at a pretty good rate if the ball went inside to her as often as it goes in to Monica. I also think Iowa could cut down on the second chance points somewhat with her playing more meaningful minutes.

totally agree with what Geno did. Good point there. It is good to see the talent level growing in women's hoops, which means a wider variety of teams can compete. Very good for hoops overall.

Wow, Indiana's student broadcast crew actually does interviews with opposing team's players. Kudos to them. IU's media and communications department is pretty good.

Somehow I felt this was the dumbest post in Hawkeye Report history. Give the OP credit because there’s been so many bad takes through the years. That his could be the dumbest ever is laudable.

Bumping it after the conference title share today.
Totally agree...........this seems to always be a collection of the mindless!!

Careful what you wish for. Not sure Iowa has topped Tom Davis as coach since and Lisa will be tough to replace as well

will be interesting to see if Caitlin has impact on recruiting in23 and beyond
Iowa’s AD has one job when it is Bluder’s time to retire, go get Jennie Baranczyk to replace her. She will come back to her alma mater to lead the Hawkeyes.

I think we might have missed our opportunity if Jennie B has success at Oklahoma. Jan Jensen likely would step in depending on when Bluder retires. I also have a suspicion that Stamp might be being groomed for the role should Bluder/Jensen want to retire around the same time. There are multiple former players who could find their way back to the staff. Lindsey Meder, Jamie Printy, and Tania Davis among them.

I'll still stand behind my OP. The topic was about her getting a chance to win a Natty not a B1G champ.
They just won the Big Ten title. By obliterating the #6 team in the country by 24 points.

They DO have a chance to win a Natty.

You definitely should stand behind something to protect yourself.....because your Post is getting shot through with bullets right now.

Unless there is an opening loss by the Hawks in the BTT, they will most likely be the 4 seed at home for 2 games. Win those and the projection would be Louisville. I could see them losing to Louisville BUT I can see them winning these 3 games and getting to the Elite 8 and then "what the hell....who knows". What I have seen first hand that last 8 days or so has me pretty excited for them!

And THIS(Like securing the BT with a sold out arena) would be VERY good for the program, for recruiting, etc., and she is the face of the program. I can't think of a better place for her to be with almost ALL of them coming back next year as well.
