True, but all docs pick up a reasonable amount even during clinical rotations in medical school. Depending on the extent and quality of one's ortho rotation, one might actually learn quite a bit about success rates, recovery periods, etc., even as a rotating medical student.

Throughout my surgical procedure & rehab he stressed that it was of critical importance that the tensile strength of the repaired & healthy joints were nearly identical. His professional opinion was that there is a higher incidence of recurrence or tearing of the healthy joint when the tensile strength of the two joints was significantly different. In other words, he & Amendola would NEVER propose what your sister is suggesting.

I also had over 1/2 of the meniscus removed from my knee. 18 years later & into my mid 40's, I run 30-60 miles a week with no knee problems whatsoever.

I wouldn't trust a neurosurgeon for orthopedic advice as I wouldn't trust a gynecologist for advice on my prostate.

Do I need to remind the audience that UI med school grades Pass/Fail. In other words, you might be taking advice from someone who got the equivalent of a D- in their Ortho clinical rotation & still passed.

She is most likely an ortho. He said "spinal surgeon." Most neuros who do spines wouldn't refer to themselves in that way. Orthos do plenty of spines.

Your gynecologist would be likely to give you sound advice on your prostrate if he/she were inclined, which they most likely wouldn't be. Try it out next time.

I see your point boss. As a post-doc I taught Medical student level courses at the UI. I want the students that would have exceeded the standard not simply met it. I promise, there's a HUGE range in the students that all get the same MD.
